Our circa 18th century restored farmhouse is in a dream location, we are in between Mont Saint Michel, Bayeux and the D Day landing beaches.The birth place of william the Conquerer is the Chateau of Falaise, which is a short scenic journey.We are just 50 minutes from Caen ferry port, and between Conde sur Noireau and Vire, the old fortress town. The house is situated on an acre of land surrounded by fields and pastures, overlooking the hills of Swiss Normandy. The lounge has large windows and doors overlooking the surrounding gardens. The terrace is an ideal place to relax with the smell of lavender and the birds singing in the spring and summer. In the autumn and winter the lounge is cosy with the wood burning stove. The location is perfect for visiting the many diverse historical and natural sites in Lower Normandy. Although keeping a traditional appearance, the house has wifi and a modern oak fitted kitchen.We have French TV in two of the bedrooms and a British TV in the lounge with a DVD player and many channels.We have Traditional looking Fire doors to all bedrooms. We also have high chairs and a travel cot for a smaller child.

About Patrick Williams
We have spent the last ten years turning this old farmhouse into a comfortable home for ourselves and guests to enjoy. Gardening is one of our main pastimes, especially in the summer when we can cultivate our own fruit and vegetables. In our spare time, we enjoy the local food and wines whilst playing a game of boules in the garden. Calvados is an ideal location for us to visit both historical sites and the many beaches without having to drive too far although, I must say, the French roads are a pleasure to drive on.

We fell in love with the house - a ruin at the time - due to its being surrounded by fields and beautiful countryside. The peacefulness and tranquility is a boost for the senses - if you need to de-stress it is the ideal place to relax your pace of life. Listen to the birds and smell the fragrance of the lavender in the summer. There are many places to walk or drive if you are interested in nature. On the edge of la Suisse Normande we have a unique area to explore, with rivers, historic towns and villages.

Fresh countryside air with space to relax, enjoy time with family and friends, sit and listen to the sounds of birds and bees. Clear nights are amazing for star gazers. No light pollution here! We are close to three swimming pools and local Rivers for various boating activities for hire. Swiss Normandy has some lovely Restaurants and Picnic areas along the river banks.We have a vising Barn Owl and sometimes see Deer in the fields. They seem to enjoy our Pears more often than us.

A beautifull house with a big garden. Very clean and well equipet.
The friendly owner is sometimes walking around, but that is no problem at all. We were with 7 persons (instead of 6) and that fitted well. (Brought our own 7th bed with us).
Very quiet, the only thing you sometimes hear are the sheeps of the neighebours:-)

Cosy and relaxing stay in quiet rural home
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house has been lovingly restored inside and has a huge unfenced garden outdoors with views over the surrounding countryside. The owners, Patrick and Margaret were very friendly and welcoming. The house was clean and well equipped.
We found there was plenty to do in the area - for active holiday goers there is kayaking, pedalos and Via Ferrara/climbing half an hour away in Clecy or field luge, bungee jumps and zip wires in the Viaduc de Soulevre. Cultural highlights included Caen (half an hour away) and Mont St Michel (further but worth a visit - you need a whole day to enjoy it properly).
The nearest village, Vassy is 5 minutes’ drive away and caters for essentials with 2 bakeries (delicious fresh bread and pastries), butcher and well stocked supermarket. There are other interesting larger towns a bit further away. Vire looked like a bustling French town with nice shops and restaurants not far away but we only drove through.
All in all a tres jolie vacance Francais!
Pleasant house, unpleasant owner
We had a couple of lovely weeks in Normandy, in an area we love, but there were problems and the owner, Patrick, wasn’t around to deal with anything.
Things didn’t start well: we arrived at the house at around 1030pm. We were tired and very grubby! having travelled for a day-and-a-half from the USA. We found the house, which really is in the middle of nowhere, there were no lights on, the TV didn’t work and there was no hot water.
We spoke to Patrick who apologized and told us that the woman who prepares the house had been diagnosed with a serious condition, so he didn’t like to press her too much!
We went to bed that night, having had cold showers. The beds were very uncomfortable! I think whoever had washed the sheets had used too much detergent; the sheets were scratchy and uncomfortable.
The next day it became clear that the door on the fridge freezer compartment was broken and needed careful handling. We read a note in the guest folder, from former renters, apologizing for breaking the door and telling Patrick that they’d left him 50 Euros hoping that this would cover the cost of the repair. Obviously, Patrick had taken the money and had clearly not done the repair. This was the “damage” that he told us he was withholding our £40 to get repaired!
There were a number of other problems: Patrick’s listing says that the house has Wi-Fi. We had Wi-Fi for the first week. It stopped working one day and never came back. We spoke to Patrick on another occasion, to ask where the BBQ was. He told me that it was behind the shed and that it was filthy (his word). He admitted that he’d seen it before he left, but he “hadn’t had time to clean it”. We cleaned it - it was in a disgusting state. We used it and then cleaned it again and left it ready for the next renters.
Because Patrick was away in the UK - and he had no one in the village who could come and sort out any issues, like the power going off (only at the house,) we were on our own when problems did occur. The house is very isolated - the nearest town/restaurant/shop/bar is a 15-20 minutes drive away. You really have to love the peace and quiet to stay here.
We sent Patrick an email a week ago, pointing out that the freezer door was broken when we arrived and quoting the written message in HIS welcome folder. So far, he’s ignored all attempts to get the balance of our deposit paid.
We've written both to the owner and VRBO but not had even the courtesy of a response!

I have read your email. The previous fridge freezer door could not be replaced so I had to buy a new Ikea fridge freezer.
Now I need to replace a whole fridge again or buy a new door for £75.00. So the £40 that I held back is just over half the amount.
By the way, I also personally cleaned the fridge and freezer before and after your visit so I know it was perfect before your visit.
The television works fine, however it took you until our second conversation on your first morning for you to understand the remote controls.
If you look on Google you can clearly see that we are in the middle of fields, so it is 5kms or 3 miles to the local bar that also serves lunchtime meals in Vassy.
The only thing that has changed since you left me the lovely thank you letter and the bottle of wine is that I requested half the price of a new freezer door.
Thank you so much for leaving the house in such good condition, but I could not understand why such a lovely group of people would not
mention a damaged door until I understood your confusion with an old comment in our information book.
I overlooked the fact that a floor tile by the sink in the first floor bathroom was also broken during your visit as I cleaned the floor personally before and after your visit.
Now that you have the full picture, I hope you understand.

Wonderful French Holiday
Wonderful authentic French holiday house. Tastefully renovated to original features. Living/cooking/dining areas ideal for all meals and relaxing by log burner (if needed). Al fresco dining with table and chairs if needed. We ate out on a few occasions both morning and evening.
Bedrooms furnished beautifully with bed/furniture in keeping with property. En-suite facilities well laid out and modern.
All in all the property was what we had hoped for and slightly more.
Patrick (owner) was so welcoming and friendly and we spent a few afternoons talking over coffee. The gardens were huge and Patrick worked throughout the 2 weeks cutting grass and generally keeping garden in great condition.
Car is definitely needed to get around and location is perfect for access to Caen, Bayeaux, Mont St Michel. We travelled into Paris (3 to 4 hours by car).

Our home away from home
We have stayed here for 2 years running and we love it more every time we visit. Our home in France, as our son says. We can't wait for our next visit. Everything you need is right here. And the house is incredible! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!

Perfect family holiday
We had a perfect family holiday in this lovely farmhouse. The property is situated in an ideal location for visiting Mont St Michel, Bayeux and D-day beaches. The owner (Patrick) was really kind and helpful. We enjoyed tasting raspberries and potatoes freshly picked from the garden! It was also great to find all essential kitchen utensils. All the bedrooms were spacious and excellent in quality - our 6-month old daughter loved sleeping in the antique cot, too. Would recommend to anyone and we would certainly love to return!
The nearest beaches, between Ouistreham and Arromanches, can be reached within an hour by car.
The beaches are wide and sandy, the sea clean. You will come to the famous beaches of the D-Day landings where you can find many monuments and museums about the Second World War II.
Along the coast to the east is Deauville, well-known for its Film Festival and Honfleur with its picturesque harbour.
The vibrant town of Granville is due west on the coast overlooking the Mont St Michel bay and on a clear day the Channel Islands can be seen.
The nearest channel port is at Ouistreham, where Brittany Ferries dock from Portsmouth. It takes under an hour to reach La Rocque by car from the ferry port.
The nearest train station is at Vire or Flers, a twenty minute drive away, where the train for Paris (Montparnasse station) departs, taking about 2 1/2 hours.
There is an airport at Caen Carpiquet (an hour away) and another at Deauville - an hour and a half away.
The nearest village is Vassy, 5kms away where there is an outstanding patisserie/bakery plus a supermarket, butcher, post office, bank, hairdressers etc. Mont St Michel, the second most popular tourist site in France, is an hour and a half by car. Bayeux, with the famous tapestry, is under an hour by car.
Falaise, the birth place of William the Conqueror, is about 45 minutes by car.
The D-day landing beaches, along with the American cemetery and other cemeteries are at 1-1 1/2 hours distant.
The local patisserie is amazing and at only five minutes pleasurable drive through winding country lanes to Vassy, where you can also find the bank, library with tourist information, hairdressers, supermarket, bars, village grocery store and delicatessens. An extra ten minutes will bring you to a larger town, Conde-sur-Noireau, where there are traditional restaurants, coffee shops, museum and art gallery. There is a vibrant market there on a Thursday with plenty of fresh, local produce. On a Friday, there is a larger market in Vire, which is twenty minutes away. During the summer there are many village Fetes, with fireworks, boules competitions, agricultural shows and local food. Most weekends there are car boot sales or antique fairs nearby.
A visit to Lac Dathee, where the Vire Golf Club is situated, is worth it for the fantastic views of the lake and surroundings. You can relax and have a drink on the Club House terrace, admiring the luscious countryside or be energetic and enjoy the driving range.

Notes on prices: The whole house price is inclusive of bed linen, towels, logs for the fire, and electricity for a whole week.
