Our old town house is a ‘home from home’ for the many guests that stay here. Recent refurbishments are to a high and comfortable standard. The many historic features such as oak beams and original fireplaces combine well with modern facilities. Behind the house is a charming enclosed secluded garden, a lovely sun trap. The house is located in a historic, conservation area of Ludlow, beneath the only surviving town gate and just 5 minutes walk to the town centre and castle. The Ludford Bridge over the River Teme and famous horseshoe weir are only 100m from the house. Ludlow is a delightful market town with a lively community feel. As a renowned foodie town it hosts numerous food festivals and events throughout the year as well as an annual summer arts festival, and a Christmas medieval fair. Ludlow is ideally located to explore the Welsh Marches, an area of unforgettable and varied natural beauty, which is full of hills, valleys, castles and characterful villages and towns.

About Nicola Firth
We live and work at Hothorpe Hall Conference Centre in Leicestershire and keep the house in Ludlow as a ’bolt hole’. We have owned the property since 2000 and have, over the years, enjoyed renovating the house. It was originally a 17C public house; one of eight in the street!

Why Nicola Firth chose Ludlow
Ludlow appealed to us, not only as a lively and beautiful town, but because it was central to so much stunning countryside to walk and cycle through. The town was in easy walking distance which was a positive for us living in a very rural location and needing the car even for a newspaper or pint of milk! The town has ‘grown’ with us as family as the children have progressed from enjoying the castle and park to cinema, shops and sports centre and they both regularly return with friends independently of us.
What makes this Cottage unique
The street is quiet and within easy walking distance of the town centre and the river. There is a lovely walk alongside the river to the castle called the ‘bread walk’ which passes two of the famous towns weirs. We fell in love with the house when we first looked around; it has a lovely homely feel. The children loved the three storeys, with their own bedrooms on the top floor. We loved viewing the garden from the kitchen and enjoy meals out in the garden. Since owning the house we have worked at restoring some of the historic features- the Shropshire stone wall in the dining room, and old oak beams in the lounge. The street and house have a fascinating history. We love to walk up to town and explore the many shops and the market and also to walk from the house up to Whitcliffe common

Lovely place to stay in a fantastic location. The house was well equipped with everything you need.
Beautiful place to stay . It was about a 5 mins walk into the town centre, with its quirky shops and cosy pubs. Lots of nice walks. Will definitely return. The house was spotless and very well equipped. The only reason we haven’t given a 5* rating is because we had a bit of trouble with the heating not coming on at times therefore the house was a bit cold . Other than that it was a great weekend and would stay there again.
A lovely home in the heart of town.
The accommodations were very nice, everything was clean and comfortable. Lots of local details/brochures provided. The only difficulty was finding the house in the dark and in the rain. Without support from locals showing up to direct us, it could have been much worse. Would recommend providing a map to show house location and parking location.

Ludlow is best accessed by car and is approx 1 hour 20 minutes drive from the centre of Birmingham; 1 hour 30 minutes from Birmingham International airport and 1 hour from the M5 junction with the M42.There are good local transport networks with a town centre train station 10 mins walk from the house. Trains to Ludlow run from Birmingham, Shrewsbury and Hereford. The bus service 192/292 serves Ludlow from Kidderminster. Phone Shropshire Traveline on 0345 056785 for timetable.
Ironbridge Gorge 20 miles. Stokesay Castle 10 miles. Berrington Hall 5 miles. Shrewsbury 30 miles. Hereford Cathedral and Mappa Mundi 24 miles. Acton Scott Working Farm 12 miles. Church Streeton, Long Mynd and Cardingmill Valley 15 miles.
As well as the many local food shops in the town and magnificent market there is the Local Food Centre at Broomfield (3 miles away) and well known supermarkets.
Ludlow is famous for its Michelin star restaurants and there are also many other good pubs and eating places. There is no shortage of places to enjoy a quiet drink or lavish meal according to the occasion. Some of our favourites are the Unicorn and Bistro Seven and the French Pantry.
Ludlow has a National hunt race course.
Fishing is available on a two mile stretch of the River Teme and boats are for hire on the river near Dingham Bridge.
National trust properties close by include Croft Castle and Berrington Hall. The English Heritage’s Stokesay Castle is well worth a visit. Ludow castle is a well preserved monument to the town’s former prominence in the Welsh Marches and forms the back drop to most of the festivals held throughout the year.
In nearby Mortimer forest there is horse riding and for the more adventurous mountain biking.
Maps and booklets in the house provide you with numerous walks along paths and bridleways from Ludlow or further afield.
There is an excellent Sports Centre with swimming pool and gym. Ludlow has a cinema and theatre in its Assembly Rooms close to the tourist information centre.

Booking Notes: Once availability and cost have been confirmed, 50% of the full cost is required to secure the booking. The balance is payable 6 weeks before the booking date. Payment can be made by cheque (to 'N L Firth'), or directly into our bank account. A refundable security deposit of £50 is required. Upon full payment being received, details of how to access the keys will be emailed to you approximately two weeks prior to the booking. Changeover Day: The prefered changeover day is Friday but we can be flexible. The house is available from 4 pm on the day of arrival and upto 10am promptly on the day of departure. An extension on your departure day is possible for a nominal charge. Please ask Notes on prices: Prices in UK pounds.
