About The Owner

We moved to the wonderful Haute Vienne department of the Limousin in January 2009, giving up careers in the NHS and commercial sectors to start a new life in rural France. We now enjoy a much less stressful life with plenty of fresh air and a total change of lifestyle.

We enjoy having the time to grow our own vegetables & whenever possible use our own produce for guest dinners. Evenings often end with Chris playing guitar.

We love welcoming guests to our gite and farmhouse B&B and hope we help them enjoy this wonderful area during their stay.

We also offer fully catered Guitar Holidays so if you want to improve your guitar playing then get in touch with Chris.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2008

Why The Owner chose Rochechouart area

We chose the Haute Vienne Department of the Limousin for its wonderful, rolling hills, extensive woodlands, numerous lakes and quiet, rural life style.

The get away from it all life style is surprisingly easily accessed with flights to Limoges, Bergerac, Bordeaux or Poitiers. Car hire is available at all the airports. Limoges is the neares, just a 45 min drive. For those who prefer to bring their own car, it's about 7 hours actual driving time from the Channel Ports. You can also let the train take the strain with Eurostar from London to Lille or Paris and then the TGV to Angouleme. Car hire is available at Angouleme station; an hours drive away.

We run a small B&B in addition to L'Hirondelle Gite and are on-hand as needed for advice or help to make your holiday the best it can be

What makes this farmhouse unique

With all four bedrooms having en-suite facilities, the gite is ideal for groups of friends and families. There is plenty of parking and it has its own private garden and terrace. The village of St Mathieu has all the day to day shopping requirements and is just 2 kms away. With unlimited, free Broadband Internet Access the gite is ideal for those who need to "keep in touch".

St Mathieu lake is less than 10 minutes away with plenty of parking and offers supervised swimming in the peak summer along with a children's play area, volley ball, crazy golf, canoe & pedalo hire, fishing, a selection of exercise frames and plenty of shade for lazy picnics. There's also a snack bar.

Two other leisure lakes are within a 20 minutes drive, each with a different ambiance; great for relaxing day

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at LHirondelle for a week June 2011. We came for a complete rest and got it. The gite is a lovely, spacious old farmhouse, recently modernised and redecorated and incredibly well equipped (fridges, cooker, UK TV, CD, Video, BBQ etc)..... conveniently situated in the Limousin countryside about a mile from St Mathieu and a well stocked supermarket. There is great deal to do in the area if you like outdoor pursuits such as hiking, swimming, cycling.....with some interesting history nearby (Chalus, Rochechouart and La Rochefoucauld) The wildlife (particularly birds) is great. Gail and Chris (the hosts) were fantastic. Nothing is too much for them, including pre stocking the fridge with basics as we had arrived late. All in all a great stay. We will definitely be back.

Very comfortable with lots of room. Great family days had on the beach at the lake.

En-suite bedrooms made this ideal for our holiday group of friends/walkers Broadband access was great for keeping in touch
