About Nicola Talbot at Falconhurst

The Blue House is a much loved family house bought by Nicola and Charles Talbot for their seven children in 1995. Living in Kent leading busy lives running a farm estate and wedding venue, The Blue House has proved a haven for retreat over the years. Now our children, their partners, and our grandchildren fight over availability of the house for their families.

Nicola Talbot at Falconhurst purchased this house in 1995

Why Nicola Talbot at Falconhurst chose Constantine Bay

We wanted a house by the sea which we could go with our family. Constantine is a lovely place for people of all ages. We ourselves do not use the car much but are very happy to be in the locality of golf, sea beaches, coastal walks and wonderful sunsets and enjoying the comfort and good ambiance that The Blue House and delightful Padstow offers. From West London it takes about 4 and a half hours so it is not that far. It's lovely driving past Stonehenge and later past Dartmoor, along the length of Bodmin Moor and then making your way to the coast. The house is in a very quiet location (no aeroplanes or sound of traffic, perhaps just a hedgecutter in summer) and everything that we like is on your doorstep. For meeting friends Newquay Airport is only 20 minutes away. Climate: usually good!

What makes this house unique

The layout of the downstairs works particularly well with a well proportioned sunny sitting room leading out to the terrace. The living areas are linked but can be separated. The furnishings are good quality and have a beachy seaside feel. The south garden is attractively foliaged. Ample parking and ease of access. The downstairs is all on one level which may suit some people very well. Some nice pictures on the walls. Good selection of indoor games for all ages and plenty of books to read or browse including a section on Cornwall and its history. For musicians the piano is quite a good upright and is at one end of the sitting room. The dining room (between the kitchen and the sitting room) though small is bright and airy and a pleasant space for enjoying the light and the magical sunsets.

Lovely comfortable place conveniently situated close to a stunning coastline

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped and comfortable home from home perfect for large groups. Also a great place to take your family pet. Not too posh that you worry about them being there but nice enough to feel relaxed in a lovely setting. A little tired in places but felt homely and was perfect for our needs. Pity the garden wasn’t completely fenced so couldn’t leave the dogs running free. All in all I’d recommend this place and would happily go there again.

10 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car to Constantine Bay, Boobys Bay and Treyarnon Bay beaches. Atlantic surfing and swimming beaches with Cornish sand and dunes. Boobys has some spectacular rocks and gentle rock pools for young children, so you can only swim there at low tide. Excellent surfing at all times of year.

20 minutes drive from Newquay Airport. The local (very good) food shop is 5 minutes walk away and the Golf Club has a bar and restaurant, so you can easily enjoy this area without a car. There are buses to Padstow and from there you can hire a bike to ride to Wadebridge, so it is quite possible to manage without a car. However a car is useful for shopping or eating in Padstow and for exploring the wider area or for taking down to the beach instead of walking or biking.

St Merryn - local centre 1 mile; Padstow 4 miles; Newquay 12 miles; Wadebridge 12 miles; Watergate Bay 8 miles; Rock: take ferry across estuary from Padstow or go via Wadebridge 15 miles also Port Isaac. Eden Project: c. 25 miles. Art at St Ives 50 miles (easy fast road); Truro (attractive city, capital of Corwnall) 25 miles. Gardens and country house at Lanhydroc 8 miles. South cost 25 miles; A choice of beaches and coastal walking 1 to 2 miles away. Riding 2 miles. Biking along estuary 4 miles

Further Details:

Village shop: Constantine Bay Stores - excellent local food shop and general store including local cheeses and vegetables with a good wine selection. Padstow Farm Shop (just this side of Padstow) sells very good local meat and vegetables. Fresh sea fish, lobsters, crabs etc from the 2 fishmongers by the quay at Padstow and Rick Stein's well stocked delicatessen and vegetable shop. For general large scale shopping Tesco just above Padstow.

Eating out: Stein's Seafood Restaurant, St Petroc's and the Cafe are all really excellent at different price levels. A good choice of other eating places in Padstow and one or two smaller places in St Merryn, Jamie Oliver's place in Watergate Bay and The Cornish Arms between St Merryn and Padstow. For cheaper fun meals try Waves at Harlyn (1 mile) serves Mexican food and hamburgers. Trevose Golf Club has a good restaurant and bar with lovely sunset views towards Trevose Head and the sea.

Gift shopping: good choice of excellent gift stores in Padstow plus some art shops. Greater choice of art galleries at famous St Ives plus the Tate St Ives

Banks: all in Padstow or Wadebridge

Leisure Centre with swimming pool: Wadebridge

A great day out is to hire bicycles in Padstow (very easy) and ride along the Camel estuary to Wadebridge and further to Bodmin if you wish. Excellent Cornish pasty shop in Wadebridge (for lunch). Visit the Camel vineyard. Fine cathedral in Truro. For gardeners we recommend Lanhydroc (close to Bodmin),The Eden Project, and the Lost Gardens of Helligan. Other activities: golf, sea or pool swimming, surfing either body boarding or for more serious malibu surfers.

Rick Stein puts on cookery courses in Padstow. There are courses at the Eden Project in a wide variety of fields. The golf professional at Trevose is very goood. Excellent music festival at St Endellion. Sailing courses at Rock. Surfing courses in Constantine or Harlyn. Deep sea fishing from Padstow. Riding nearby. Betjeman poetry evenings at Rock.
