About Michelle Davenport
We live in England with our two children who are aged 16 and 13, and Gerry the dog. We have spent many holidays in France and found this magical house by chance. We still stay at the house each year, and have visited during all of the different seasons. We fell in love with L'Ancienne Ecole at first viewing. We've spent the last year or so making it into a family home. It is perfect during all seasons and is in a "away from it all" location, perfect for walking, cycling or just lazing by the heated pool with a good book and a glass of wine. Its an amazing place for real family time. The surrounding area is full of history and there are many activities to keep you busy.
Michelle Davenport purchased this House in 2007
Why Michelle Davenport chose Freychenet
L'Ancienne Ecole is in the Midi Pyrenees, near a small village called Montferrier (Ariege 09300). We wanted a family holiday home that was secluded, in the mountains and "away from it all". Its very French, with only a few neighbours. Hardly any traffic, unless you include cyclists, the local farmer herding goats or the post lady. You can stock up on the way and stay put for the whole of your stay, walking, cycling, reading by the fire or swinging on the hammock looking at the most amazing views. Watching eagles soaring by or swallows diving into the pool. Light the fire outside at night and watch the shooting stars.. No wifi or internet connection (you have to go down the mountain!), a DVD for colder days to keep the children happy. Plenty of jigsaws and a chess set. We love it....
What makes this House unique
The house is a family home with all of the creature comforts. There is a heated pool with wonderful views. Books, jigsaws, board games. Roaring fires and space to unwind. For the more active, there are bikes, table tennis and plenty of opportunities to walk. Locally there are many historic towns and sites, Montsegur, Roquefixade, Mirepoix and Foix, a little further away Toulouse and Carcassonne. Canoeing, horse riding, fishing and many other local activities.

Beautiful property in stunning location
A lovely week at a beautiful house in a very peaceful location. Arrived to a very generous welcome pack and everything you could wish for in the house. The pool was gorgeous! Just what was needed for everyone. Thank you for a perfect holiday home in an idyllic location!
A lovely location but fixtures and fittings exhausted and not as described
I took my family to stay at this property from 7 to 14 July 2018. The house is in a beautiful location and we made the most of our stay however the house was not as described.
This is what we found on arrival;
The garage (games room) was full of rubbish. The listing said that there were 8 bikes to use infact here were 5 in total 2 adult bikes with flat tyres and a selection of children’s bikes
• The pool filter was not working on arrival and the pool appeared dirty. Once the filter started working the pool began to clear and the pool did not look as bad as this picture and it was enjoyable to swim in and definitely a pool with a view.
• The lower deck areas were in complete disrepair and unsafe, I was drawn to this property because I felt that this extra decking areas would have been another spot for my adult children to spend time with their partners.
• There was no hammock, I was told that broke a while ago. I found it downstairs in the the washing room with a dead mouse squashed by it.
• The picnic table was decrepit, rotted away well past quaint rustic charm. This was repaired this on day 3 of our holiday) The repair was an intrusion into our holiday stay although the outcome of the work was welcome and the workers were very pleasant and managed to do a lot of the work in the garage.
• There were 3 pool chair cushions in the kitchen area, they have seen better days. I later found 3 more downstairs alongside a pile of blankets the defunct hammock and a dead mouse. The
• The 7 pool chairs themselves were grubby they had not been cleaned.
• The oven was very dirty, when I complained to the owner on the first day of our visit he insulted me by offering to pay me to clean it.
• The lower shower head holder on the upstairs bathroom did not work, and the overhead showerhead di not seem to let much water through
• The literature mentions playing DVDs but there was nothing to play these on
• The stairs to the washing machine and the whole ares were very dirty • The pillows in the room that I was sleeping in were very poor they seemed to me to be cheap cushions with chunks of foam in them. (However the beds were very comfy)
I contacted the owner on arrival with my complaints he said that he would sort out some compensation for me on our return to the UK it didnt happen and now there is no reply to my emails. I have booked villas from Home Away for about 10 years more or less and I have never before complained.
We will not engage in a war of words - we have rented our property for over 10 years & have never received a negative review - Mrs Bartlett is a serial complainer. We have responded via Homeaway to her complaint & have offered compensation (which she has refused). We have responded to all emails & Homeaway are satisfied with our response. I wouldn’t recommend anyone on this site allow her to book their accommodation - she is looking for issues. We could respond to her comments above publicly but will not get drawn into a review battle. If anyone had doubts about booking the property in the future we would gladly explain the situation.
Fantastic! Quiet, relaxing, stunning views, lovely well equipped house.
Lovely house with lots of character. Welcome selection of food on arrival.
Fully equipped kitchen and garage with table tennis, bikes, darts, also swimming pool toys, maps, DVDs, puzzles and board games.
House was clean, well maintained and equipped as described.
Wonderful views from the garden of mountains in the day and stars at night! Lots to do a short drive away too.
Owners were very helpful and supportive and their local contacts friendly too. Definitely would recommend to friends.
Just excellent. Highly recommended.
