Las Golondrinas is a beautifully restored country villa nestled in the peaceful Malagan mountains with a private pool and WiFi internet. The house is also just about 20 km from Malaga's beach, port and rich cultural attractions (such as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso). The house has 6 large and comfortable bedrooms that can sleep up to 12 people, as well as 2 bathrooms. The house was restored recently and has maintained all its traditional charms - Arabic floor tiles, pebble mosaics and exposed stone and timber - whilst also providing modern conveniences such as WiFi internet, digital television, a dishwasher & a washing machine and an outside swimming pool to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house is also just a 15 minute drive away from a grocery store and the celebrated El Túnel restaurant. About Ian or Sally Murrell

Hi, I'm Ian, the owner of Las Golondrinas.

I started off my working career as a development engineer. After 8 years I thought I would try construction. This paid off for me as I enjoyed work outside and the physical side of things. I also enjoyed working for the public. Our sons left home and we decided to change our way of life and looked at properties in the lower half of England's countryside, we came to Spain to visit our eldest son Barry and he took us to meet some of his friends in the Malaga countryside and we fell in love with the place, we made a quick decision and started looking for land and buildings in the Mountains, we went home and sold our house 14yrs ago, and we have never looked back.

Notes on accommodation: Walking through the front door of La Golondrinas, you are greeted with a spacious lounge and a large dining table that serves well for dinner and other festive occasions. The floor includes a pebble mosaic of a swallow and a compass. On the back wall is a stone fireplace, as well as an entertainment centre including satellite television and a selection of board games. Inside the house is covered with free WiFi internet. In the centre of Las Golondrinas is a large, well lit kitchen with all the amenities needed to cook for large gatherings. The kitchen opens onto the terrace where you can relax by the private swimming pool. there are 2 bedrooms downstairs and a spacious bathroom with hot water (wheelchair accessible). On the stairwell to the first floor, you pass under a large Cornelli globe, made by the owners. On the upper floor there are 4 bedrooms, each overlooking the countryside. Outside: There is a private swimming pool (3 x 5 metres) to the rear of the property(Open 1st July ). Adjacent to the pool there is a large terrace with a barbecue and outdoor dining area and table tennis. The front terrace has excellent views of the sea and Malaga City in the distance, also a large outdoor games area with archery for children, skittles, petanque, and a frog game for all the family. The property sits in 15 acres of its own land and you can feel free to wander where you like; we have lots of olive, almond, and carob trees. Children are welcome to come feed chickens and other small holdings. There is quiet area with a hammock and small bench, and a swinging bed. Washing machine. Linen & towels provided. For a 2 week stay, the bathrooms will be cleaned and a change of linen and towels will be provided after one week.

Perfect retreat for some quiet days!

We were looking for a place in Andalusia where we could enjoy nature and relaxation, and we found the best place! Up in the mountains, far from noisy beighbourhoods or cars with breathtaking sunsets every day! Sally and Ian were great, they answered all our questions about living in such an amazing place and in Spain in general and made our stay a very memorable one.

Though having a car is a must as the location is remote, the mountain walks, the air and the nearby village with the traditional restaurants give enough options to relax and recharge if you dont want to go into the city of Malaga. Great memories!

What a beautiful place to stay!

The house is great, the location and the view stunning. In about 30 minutes by car you are in downtown Malaga. Follow the instructions Ian and Sally give you to get to the house. Our navigation system brought us somewhere else. But Ian picked us up to show us the way. Ian and Sally are very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful rustic house with superb views

We went as a family of 10 of all ages and everyone of us enjoyed the pool, fantastic house, lovely hosts and super views plus we had the added treat and becoming friends with scampi (ian and sallys dog. One of many) she was a pleasure to have around. Lovely weather. Nice treats of ian...loved the figs and limes..thankyou. overall a fab holiday xxx

Fantastic yet again!

This was our second visit and again we had an amazing time! We returned as a family of 7 and once again Ian & Sally were the perfect hosts. The house is still as stunning as ever and as an added extra there was a new fire pit if the weather was cold at night! As it was we didn't need this as the weather was fantastic!!

They're are so many places to relax like the swimming pool, the front terrace, the swinging seat with beautiful mountain views and even a hammock to take a snooze!

Lots of places to eat and drink and mix with the locals and we even had the pleasure of Ian & Sally showing us around some of the local restaurants.

The house has everything you could need and nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. We will definitely be returning sometime this year.

Thank you to our lovely hosts Ian & Sally for making our holiday so wonderful!!

Little piece of heaven

I spent Christmas here with my husband and adult daughter and we instantly fell in love with the place. The house is fully equipped and the owners Sally and Ian live nearby and were more than helpful and extremely welcoming. The house has a huge log burning stove which Ian kindly lit for us every evening when we were out. Sally gave us some delicious home made cheese and free range eggs from their own hens. The terrace has amazing views down over Malaga and there is a pool, a barbecue area and lots of little cozy nooks with seats, hammocks, swings, etc to sit out and relax in. We had a most relaxing holiday here and yet it's only approx 10km away from the hustle and bustle of Malaga which, I have to say, the three of us loved also. I can't wait to make a return visit to this beautiful little piece of heaven. Thanks Sally and Ian x

Owner's Response: Thank you. From the time I meet you at the airport I thought you would like it. The stove always makes guests smile throughout the short winter we have here. It takes me 20 mins to get the fire started and its no problem at all and I am happy you appreciated it. We are lucky to have Paco and his goats across the valley, he is quite a character and our eggs are very tasty too. Malaga has a lot going on nearly all year round. The Christmas lights were fantastic this year and the atmosphere is always very friendly. I am glad you enjoyed yourselves and hurry back!!

We were a family of 10 but the house can accommodate 13-14 people and had everything you needed. The BBQ was just what we needed to eat at nights but there are local restaurants about 10 mins away which accommodate your every needs. The different spots to relax in the garden are fantastic and from the hammock the views of the mountains are spectacular. Malaga is only a 30 min drive away and the views from the house especially at night are amazing. Ian & Sally are the perfect hosts and took us shopping and helped with all our needs even cooking for us some of their favourite recipes. Their extended family of animals make the holiday so different and we loved the goats cheese from Paco the goat herder and thanks Sally for all the eggs!!

There are even games in the garden for all ages to have fun with!! Thanks Sally & Ian for a wonderful holiday! We will definitely be returning to this haven of tranquility!!

Special interest holidays:

There is a small organic farm close by where you can purchase fresh eggs, seasonal veg and goats cheese, we particularly recommend the pork. Farm visits and local excursions can be arranged upon request. Should you be interested in a more hands-on experience and would like to get involved in the daily running of the farm (for example, feeding the animals, fruit-picking etc.) you would be more than welcome. At a later date we are hoping to run a globe making school. An example of one of our globes is on display in the house.


The nearest beach is 15 km away in Malaga. Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Calahonda and Marbella are west of Malaga and also has two aquaparks with in. There are more covey beaches east of Malaga in Torre del Mar, Torrox Costa and Nerja.


Malaga airport is only 25km away. Malaga port is 18km away. A car is essential. A map and directions to the property will be supplied. We can also meet you at the airport and escort you to the property.


The property is located 18km from Malaga, which is a beautiful city famous for its many museums and art galleries, the ultimate being the birth place of Picasso and his museum close by. The house is also a very good base for daily excursions, as you can join the A7, E15, A45, and N340 coastal road within 15 minutes and from there continue onto Granada, Alhambra (1 hour 30 mins drive), Marbella and Puerto Banus (1 hour), Torremolinos and Waterworld (40 mins), and much more within easy reach.

Las Golondrinas is perfectly situated to offer easy access to the rich bustling culture of Malaga City, including: Pablo Picasso Museum - situated close to the site of Picasso's birthplace, featuring many great works by the artist. La Malagueta - the Malaga Bull Ring and associated museum. La Alcazaba - an immense 11th century Moorish military fortress built on the remains of a Roman fortress. Kelipe Centro de Arte Flamenco - intimate show of traditional Flamenco by husband and wife.Jardin Botanical, La Concepcion - the Historic Botanical Gardens of Malaga just down at the foot of the mountains 15mins . Feria de Malaga - Malaga's 9 day festival at the start of August.
