The coach house is tucked away off a lane next to a former church - the church tower is at the bottom of the driveway. The coach house is a traditionally built slate building that has been restored internally as a luxurious contemporary house, whilst maintaining the old ships' timbers and stone walls. There is a garage and entrance door on the ground floor, with an entrance hall and beechwood stairs leading to the main living area. The coach house is within a couple of hundred yards of local shops and pubs, or turning in the other direction, you can walk through lanes and footpaths to the foot of Hoad Hill, a quarter of a mile away.

Why Owner chose Ulverston
My wife and I lived in Ulverston for a number of years, moving away for work reasons. I love the quirkiness of Ulverston, its people, its pubs, its down to earth nature embedded in such beauty - between the Furness fells, the lakes and Morecombe Bay. The coach house was a ruin when I acquired it - it dates from the 1750's and has recycled ships' timbers in the roof beams. It originally stabled horses for what was the presbytery to the church. This is now the Oddfellows hall whose tower sits in the drive to the coach house.
What makes this Barn unique
Ulverston sets it's store out as the Festival Town, and there are a great number of these - the highlights for me being the Dickensian Festival, the Charter fortnight culminating in the lamp procession, and the walking festival - Ulverston is the start of the Cumbrian Way. The Laurel and Hardy Museum, the Buddhist monastery and the Hoad monument lighthouse add to the character of the town, with its ginnels and cobbles, and excellent pubs. Moss Tarn is tucked away down a lane just outside the central area of town. Its kitted out as a luxurious retreat from the weather. Its only 8.5 miles to Newby Bridge on Windermere, 10 miles to Coniston Water, and a walk down Ulverston Canal to a breathtaking view of Morecombe Bay.
Lovely self catering in a perfect location
Located close to the town center this lovely apartment could not have been in a better location. After spending the day sight seeing it was so nice to park the car and walk to the Farmers pub for a pint and a meal. The local butchers and fish market were steps away when you wanted to eat in.
As for the apartment itself it was wonderful. Very clean and bright with lots of room. And the living area was so comfortable to relax in after being out all day. The ladder to the loft was tricky at first but one did get used to it and it was a novelty. Highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.
What a great place!
We had a lovely long weekend stay at Moss Tarn which has everything you could possibly need. It is very comfortable and modern and we had loads of space to relax which photos do not do justice in showing. Roland the owner has really thought of everything and both he and Diane who helps maintain Moss Tarn had great communication with us and were very friendly and helpful. All this ensured we had a great summer break and Ulverston is a great location and beautifu, friendly place to start exploring the Lake District. Highly recommended and we will returning in the future for sure. Thank you.
We genuinely loved our stay at Moss Tarn! Ulverston is a lovely town with a vibrant Saturday market. Just down the street is Ford Park which was great for the kids (zip line!). We hiked to the lighthouse overlooking the park - amazing views of the Lake District. The house is cozy and clean with a well-equipped kitchen. Appreciated being able to do a load of laundry as well!

Our chosen property was extremely spacious, modern and well equipped for our self catering weekend.
All aspects of the property were perfect and could not be faulted at all.
The open plan lounge/diner/kitchen on the 2ndfloor was fantastic with all mod cons as standard. Cutlery and crockery, pots and pans were all of a very high standard, dishwasher(detergent supplied),orange juicer, coffee maker, smeg fridge and all other usual kitchen appliances spotlessly clean.
There is an excellent tv and sound system available in the lounge, ideal for chilling in the evening, along with the entertainment system there is a surprisingly varied collection of films, dvd's and cd's to use during your stay There is even a large selection of games available hidden away in one of the many storage cupboards in the living area.
Upstairs to the bedroom on the mezzanine floor and the comfiest bed I have ever slept on, again everything spotlessly clean, with 1 x double and 1 x single bed and still room for storage etc.
The whole property oozes class, is extremely spacious and is so airy and well lit, thanks to the super high ceilings, roof lights and an abundance of well appointed lighting.
We could not fault the property at all, we strongly recommend it to other travellers and will most definitely return, a real gem
Moss tarn is a lovely property. It’s in a great location and is everything we could need.
We had a great stay at Moss Tarn. Lovely, well looked after accommodation Less than a minutes walk to Ulverston town. We met the housekeeper whilst we was there who made sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely book Moss Tarn again for our next visit to Ulverston.
Really nice property to stay in, if you are not infirm or drunk
Well furnished and main level has plenty of room, bit of a pain going down 2 levels to the toilet in the night and not easy to take a cup of tea up to bed, so no breakfast in bed in the morning. Property is well placed for lower lakes.
1.5 miles to Morecambe Bay. 8 miles to Roanhead beach (National Trust Sandscale Hawes). 11 miles Walney Island - various beaches and bird sanctuary.

Co-op supermarket is nearest shop open 8-8. Also a Tesco metro.
Booths supermarket on edge of town is excellent quality and does a decent breakfast.
There is a range of excellent teashops such as Gillams and the World Peace cafe (both are vegetarian eating). Best pubs for food are Rose and Crown and the Farmers. Meat and potato pies at butchers are a delight. Excellent bookshops - and don't miss Laurel and Hardy museum.
