Clamkara House and Beach House sit in 4 acres of lush tropical gardens in a quiet and exclusive part of Vipingo. They let separately or together, are staffed and very private. The position of both houses provides unrestricted views of the Indian Ocean, across the white sands and coral reef. The new 16m pool is the jewel in the crown, and with its cosy sitting areas under the flamboyant trees and the gentle sound of the waterfall, its enough to send you to sleep. The beach is equally inviting, with its own bar and an inner beach ideal for children or for playing games. The beach at high tide is perfect for swimming, and as the tide goes down you get out your snorkel to see the amazing array of marine life in front of your eyes. There are numerous areas to relax and soak up the peace and tranquility of this very special place, with no beach boys to hassle you or traffic to disturb your peace. Most recently have added a private covered patio on the seaside of the Beach House to relax and a new makuti structure at the end of the inner beach with a Lamu bed to veg out or have a massage. The masseur is less than 10 USD for a full body! Security is provided both on site and from an immediate response team.
2 double bedrooms are en-suite, with double beds and shower. The other double has 2 large single beds, and a separate bathroom next door with shower. All bedrooms have AC and a fixed overhead fan, with mosy nets right up to the ceiling.
There is a large sitting room opening out to a patio overlooking the pool and sea.
The kitchen has a gas cooker, microwave, freezers, fridges etc. There is a lamu bed outside in the corner of a cosy patio, and several sitting areas in close proximity of the house. There is an outside dining area under a rondavel overlooking the pool and Indian Ocean.
Next to the pool is a patio for lie beds and a lower level with comfy chairs, sofas and a seat under a flamboyant tree.
There is a TV and DVD player for playing DVD's available.
There is a built in barbeque/bar to the side of the House by a sitting out area.
Andrew and Cherry Ritchie came on safari to Kenya in 2003, fell in love with the country on arrival and bought Lahai the second day! Within 5 months, Andrew had retired and we were living here, our 2 youngest of 6 children moved from Prep School in south of England to Kenya and we haven't looked back since.
Andrew, a retired naval officer, learnt to fly at the coast in 2006, was so impressed as he flew over empty white sands and shimmering Indian Ocean, that he bought 4 acres on the beach north of Mombasa.
Andrew and Cherry have just had their eldest daughters wedding on the beach. It was a breathtaking location.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2006
Having flown over the unspoilt beaches around Vipingo, we decided to have a look to see what was available. We came to a house in a quiet 1950's development of large 4-5 acre plots, and someone had a FOR SALE sign in his hand. We went in to find his wife lying on a beach bed under an indian almond tree virtually in the sea. It was so idylic we had to buy it!
The area is a little pocket of paradise, quiet and peaceful, but what we did not know was that the most exciting 36 Hole Golf development north of South Africa was about to start just 2 miles behind us! 18 Holes of the new Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort are now open and it has lived up to its name.
Just 1 hours drive north from Mombasa, and within easy reach of Mtwapa and Kilifi, where there are good shops and restaurants.
Since being at Clamkara, both properties have been extensively modernised, making the houses extremely comfortable nestling amongst the recently landscaped lush tropical gardens.
We have extended the beach in the garden, which is perfect for children or games. There is now a large rondavel with a beach bar, ideal for outside eating or relaxing in the cool. The beach is all but deserted apart from a few fisherman, who will sell fish on the beach.
The main house sits 100m back from the beach on the coral escarpment, and we have just put in a 16m pool and waterfall along the escarpment. There is also a new rondavel overlooking the pool and sea for outside eating. This pocket of paradise is walled on 3 sides with good security.
' What a truly idylic spot. No noise from cars, trains, aeroplanes, motor bikes or tourists! Just the sound of the sea and wind in the palm trees. The swimming pool must be one of the finest ever. All the staff delightful and looked after us really well.'
' A fantastic escape by the sea - just far enough from Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort for us to be limited to 18 Holes of devastation instead of 36!'
'We couldn't have asked for a better relaxing getaway, though too short'.
' Expectations were high. Expectations were exceeded. We will return'.
' Sea, sand, shells and snorkelling. What a wonderful way to spend a holiday. No one on the beach apart from the odd fisherman - what a lovely change not to be hassled or fussed. Just like Malindi 40 years ago. Well done Vipingo!'
Special interest holidays:
The ideal holiday package, for which there would be additional discount, would be a week at the owners property up country above Lake Navaisha (KY16) followed by a week at the beach at Clamkara. If a safari at the Masai Mara is required in between, flights go from Navaisha to the Mara to the coast.
Clamkara is on the beach. Apart from fisherman, there is no one to bother you, no beach boys or noisy water sports. The sand forms the top half of the beach, with the coral reef the rest. The reef falls into the deep sea about 1/2 mile offshore.
Vipingo is an hour from Mombasa international airport. It is an easy taxi ride, which can stop at the supermarket at Nyali half way to the house for provisions. Alternatively, there are numerous hire cars available.
Clamkara is a mile from Vipingo village, where there are basic shops. The nearest banks or restaurants are either at Kilifi, 20 mins north, or Mtwapa, 20 mins south. There are major water sport centres at most of the nearby hotels, the nearest being about 5 miles away.
A 20kva generator is available for Both Houses.
