Guestbook comments from the owner

"Wonderful place to stay to visit amsterdam and lovely owners!"

Stayed here for a few days to explore amsterdam after a business trip. Great location. Very central to everything - can walk to city center in a few minutes. Train and train stop is very close. There is a nice park nearby. Shopping and museums were very close too.

And the best of all - staying in a houseboat is a really nice experience.

Didn't do a lot of cooking as I wanted to try out all the great amsterdam restaurants. But the house boat has a fully equipped kitchen - great for all the breakfast items that Coleta had set up.

Can't wait to visit in spring/summer in amsterdam and stay in Janna - to get a different feel of the city!

Coleta was very friendly and welcoming. Gave a lot of information about the city and maps etc. Lots of tips on shopping and food!

Fantastic!

Very Amsterdams in the middle of 'De Pijp'. Beautiful location! Central and cozy cozy boat. Great touring with four girlfriends.

Cosy Canal Refuge

  • 5 of 5

If you want to experience the Dutch lifestyle of living on the canal, then Houseboat and Janna will provide you with the perfect opportunity. Moored out of the CBD on the Amstel River, it is still walking distance to the city centre and attractions. 4 adults had enough room on houseboat Janna during our stay and enjoyed the Dutch design of the accommodation.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Janna was very comfortable. It lies perfectly in the center of Amsterdam so you can enjoy the spirit of the city the best way possible! The hosts are really nice and they do everything to make your stay special. If there were a 6th star we would give that, too. Next time we're in Amsterdam we will stay there again! Thank you for the great time, we really enjoyed it!

VERY SPECIAL PLACE TO STAY!

  • 5 of 5

Great location but some issues with the boat

  • 3 of 5

Coleta is a very welcoming host, and her knowledge of languages is very comforting. We all absolutely loved Amsterdam, the cafes and travelling by tram (we had 4 day passes - well worth the 22 Euros).

However, we stayed on Avontuur, and we had a few issues.

Firstly, we were confused on arrival, as there are no boat names on display, so we just had to go by the photos on the website.

Also, we were expecting to have the whole boat to ourselves, but be aware that due to Amsterdam law, only half the boat is allowed to be rented to holiday makers, so we only had the front end.

If you've ever stayed on a static canal boat before, you will be aware that waste water needs to be pumped ashore, and this normally would not be an issue, but as the other half of the boat was occupied by someone else, if they decide to have a shower at midnight, (or even once at 3.30 am!) which happened every night we were there, the pump and the boiler fire up and wakes everyone up (it was situated just behind the head of the bed in our room and it is very loud in the middle of the night). Consequently we ended up rather grumpy and short of sleep after 3 nights of this.

Other reviews mention a well stocked fridge, but ours was empty, and the bin was still full from the previous guests. Washing up was also tricky, as the plugs in the kitchen sinks were both broken and there was no washing up bowl, so we had to run the water continuously.

So overall, we enjoyed exploring Amsterdam from a great location, but we were disappointed in the accommodation itself.

The houseboat is located in a family friendly area on one of the best spots on the river Amstel in the Quartier Latin of Amsterdam, called De Pijp and is just a 10 to 20 minutes walk to most tourist attractions like the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Experience, the Hermitage, RAI congress centre, the old centre of Amsterdam, one of the nicest shopping area’s of Amsterdam called “Utrechtsestraat” and lots of good restaurants.

Janna has just been renovated end of 2010 (bathroom end of 2011), contains a tastefully decorated and comfortable apartment of almost 60 square meter with a private entrance. In this lovely ambiance you will be warmly welcomed by your hostess, Coleta. She knows Amsterdam by heart and can help you find your way around town.

At arrival she will provide you with a list of “must sees” in Amsterdam and surroundings.
