About Sam Newman
The property is owned by 3 generations of a family - mother and daughter Sue and Sam, and grandfather Les. We use the property to visit son Dave and his family. Despite the fact we purchased the property when Les was 86, he played a very active role in getting the property ready. Sue and Sam both live in Croxley Green in Hertfordshire. Sam and her husband John run their own business providing public sector research and consultancy. They have two young children. Sue is now retired (although is kept busy with childcare for her grandchildren!) but previously worked managing a programming team. Dave works for the Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh - which is well worth a visit during your trip!

Why Sam Newman chose Edinburgh
With family living in Edinburgh we found ourselves frequently coming up stay in B&Bs. We loved the city and wanted to visit more often, and also liked the idea of having somewhere we could have a living space we could all share. This particular location appealed because we felt it was very important to have parking and the proximity to the town centre made it a very attractive place to be based. There is a small children's play area which our nieces / grandchildren love to play in and we love being able to open the patio doors on a nice day (they do get them occasionally in Edinburgh!). Although we often walk into the City centre the bus stop a few minutes walk away make it even easier to get around.
What makes this Apartment unique
We bought the property knowing that we would want to let it out so we were careful to find somewhere that was located conveniently for town, had good parking and which was suitable for older generations and children alike. Although the building has a lift, the ground floor access is particularly helpful and meant we got the small patio area. We have tried to furnish and equip it so that it could be a great home away from home for us, without it being too personalised. We have stayed in many B&Bs and flats around Edinburgh so we felt we had a good idea of what works and what doesn't.

Nice clean apartment in a great quiet location. Within easy walking distance of the town centre. It takes around 20 mins. There are ample parking spaces at the building and a parking permit is supplied. There are local shops close by. There are so many nice places to eat in Edinburgh that you are spoiled for choice. We had a great stay and would definitely stay here again.

Warm and comfortable with easy access to city busses and all the Fringe had to offer, this quiet hideout was perfect for our ten days of theatre, theatre, theatre.

Quiet Edinburgh apartment
The apartment was very clean and well stocked. Bedding comfortable. Located in a quiet residential area but within a (long) walk of the attractions. The botanical garden is within easy walking distance and is interesting. Would stay again.
There are a number of beaches located near to Edinburgh. Cramond: A small beach which is easily reached by car or bus and is popular with local residents. Portobello: Located only 3 miles from Edinburgh, again easily reached by car or bus.
Heading further out of town, North Berwick is a beautiful seaside town with long beaches.
The nearest airport is Edinburgh airport. A very good bus service operates which runs to Waverley train station in the centre of town. It is possible to walk to the flat from the station (15-20 minutes) or via the buses which run from the station. The tram now runs direct from the Airport through to York Place, 10 minutes walk from the property.
It is not essential to have a car to explore the city. Many attractions can be reached easily on foot and there is an excellent bus service. However, to explore beyond the city a car is useful. There is a City Car collection point close to the flat.
There is a Co-op a few minutes walk away as well as a Tesco Express also within 5 minutes walk. We regularly find these adequate to cater all our needs when we stay for a weekend (although we usually also treat ourselves to the award winning deli Valvona & Crolla which is also located only 5 minutes walk away). There are also a range of larger supermarkets all close by.
There are some lovely restaurants on Broughton Street, just over 10 minutes walk away.
