Converted Barn in Kingston, Kingsbridge, South Devon - Close to the Coast & Beaches; Lovely Pub in Village
About Katherine Harding
We have lived in Kingston now for over 18 years and love it here. Although only a small village, there is so much going on and the Dolphin Inn is always welcoming. We both work locally and try our best to be as green as we can, using local organic and fair trade items where possible - something we have tried to continue with the Coach House. We have two dogs, Tug and Dex, who also love life here - after all, with the main decision being a walk on the beach or a walk on the moors, who can blame them! We hope you will love it as much as we do in this beautiful part of Devon, so close to towns and shops, yet so distant and remote as well...
Katherine Harding purchased this Barn in 2000
Why Katherine Harding chose Kingston
Close to local beaches and coves. Few minutes walk from excellent local pub. Very well equipped. Lovely sunny garden with rural views. Parking spot for a small/medium car.
What makes this Barn unique
Original old coach house, converted into a gorgeous cottage. Amazing village with so much going on all year round...

Comfortable property in small village
The Coach House was very comfortable and well equipped. There is a folder full of walks in the area which we used several times. We found the parking space very useful although we were glad that we had taken my Honda Jazz rather than my husband's larger car because the space was just right the size for the Jazz. The bed was extremely comfortable. Others have commented on the traffic passing outside the window, which could be a bit disturbing at times but overall we slept well. We ate at the Dolphin Inn in the village but found it rather pricey. We also ate at the Church House Inn in Churchstow twice and found this much better value for money. Wonwell Beach is lovely We walked there on our first day but also took the car later on. Parking was easy at the side of the road.
Away from the hustle and bustle
Very relaxing! Directions, maps, guides all supplied and invaluable to enjoy this out of the way experience! The barn conversion is unique, very welcoming!
A delightful get away
The Coach House was just what we needed, cosy and away from it all. The owners have thought of almost everything you would need for a comfortable home away from home with a small sunny garden for those days when you just don't want to venture out. There were even DVDs which we didn't discover until the night before we were due to leave! The village is delightful with a lovely church and a cosy pub (sadly on the night we arrived it was fully booked for meals), N.B. book ahead just in case this happens for you. We loved Bigbury on Sea but never managed to be there to walk over to Burgh Island (which is cut off by the tide when it comes in) and our lunch at The Oyster Shack Is memorable. The little shop at St.Annes Chapel has everything you need from newspapers to wine and is only a mile away as is its neighbour The Pickwick Inn, lovely food. We were tired after a busy summer (I ran a B&B until a few days before we were there!) and we just needed to chill, we were able to do this at The Coach House and would highly recommend it.
So pleased that you enjoyed the Coach House and our lovely village! There is so much to see and do on your doorstep and it sounds like you made the most of it! I hope we can welcome you back again sometime soon.
All the best, Katherine
Adequate good position and quite well equipped
house could do with airing out as had old musty smell particularly in bedroom which is downstairs.windows needed cleaning outside bedroom! Towels clean but very hard! Kitchen well equipped and parking space very useful.
Thank you for your review and sorry that you had a few minor issues. We do open the windows downstairs all the time, but most guests seem to prefer them shut so I am sorry if it was a bit musty, and we do also clean the outside windows every month! We are very eco-friendly and so our towels are dried in the fresh air on a washing line - so sorry this wasn't to your liking. We do try and take on board all comments where we can and so thank you again for taking the time to feedback to us. With best wishes, Katherine & Mark.
Beautiful countryside village
We had a lovely couple of nights here. The place was clean and cosy, and equipped with everything we needed. The village is beautiful and peaceful, and the local pub was great. Close to the sea and the countryside, and we can wholeheartedly recommend the Oyster Shack restaurant which is a 10 min drive - if you like seafood you will love it. Check in and out was easy. Thanks to Katherine for being such a great host.
So lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House and made the most of the excellent local pubs and restaurants!
All the best,
Idylllic Hidden Retreat
Such a fantastic cosy cottage, tucked away in the quaint little village of Kingston. Clean, well equipped, warm, snug and very romantic. We loved it. We did a beautiful walk to the coast which was absolutely stunning, like something out of a film set. The local pub, The Dolphin Inn, is gorgeous and we frequented it several times on our short stay. Highly recommended and we'd love to return one day for longer. Thank you :)
Thank you for your review and so lovely to hear that you enjoyed the peace of our lovely, friendly village of Kingston - and our pub too!! I do hope that we can welcome you back sometime soon.
All the best,
The Coach House is just over a mile from 2 local beaches (Wonwell and Westcombe) and the stunning South Devon coast path. The wonderful beach at Bigbury-on-Sea is about 3 miles away which also has a great cafe (open all year) and at low tide you can cross the causeway to Burgh Island and the famous Pilchard Inn!
Plymouth airport and national rail station are about 14 miles away. Use of a car is essential as there is no bus service to the village.

The lovely town of Modbury (3 miles) has all shops, including a butcher, Co-op, hardware store, chemist, Post Office, Deli and a lovely range of gift shops, antique shops, art gallery and coffee shops! It also has a doctors surgery, dentist and vet.
