Barn in Muchelney Ham, Nr. Langport, Somerset, England - Rural Location near Medieval Village
P& E Nightingale
About P& E Nightingale
We moved to South Ham Farm from another house in Muchelney in 1997 because of its peaceful location and surrounding land. South Ham Barn was converted into a single dwelling from a wagon-house. We have a flock of sheep, 2 horses,a few hens and sometimes pigs. Our 3 children have left home and we retired from medical practice in 2008. In December 2009, a heated indoor swimming pool was completed. It is available for the exclusive use of guests for at least 10 hours per day, and at other times by agreement. Muchelney Ham is a very beautiful place and we feel privileged to live here.
P& E Nightingale purchased this Barn in 1997
Why P& E Nightingale chose Muchelney
South Ham Farm is located at the edge of Muchelney Ham near the ancient village of Muchelney on the Somerset Levels an area of outstanding beauty and character. Having lived in the village for 20 years, we did not want to leave it so were very happy to move down the road when this property became available. The farm land attached has allowed us to pursue our interest in breeding sheep and keeping horses.
What makes this Barn unique
Our peaceful location and heated indoor swimming pool make it an ideal holiday destination for everyone. We are ideally located for walking, cycling and canoeing from the garden. Golf and fishing are available in adjacent villages. Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and many excellent gardens are nearby.

Wonderful peace in the country
A lovely cottage in rural Somerset with very pretty surroundings. Cottage has everything you need and the owners could not do enough for us. The pool is great and makes the place for a trip with kids. Thanks Elizabeth and Peter. I am sorry we did not see you to say goodbye but we will be back I am sure and thanks for the home reared meat! Missing your dog too.
Came to the area for our Son's wedding, cottage was stunning, had everything we could possibly need, pool was a great bonus, rural location was beautiful, 5 star in our opinion and will definitely be recommending to everyone and will come again.
Relaxing time enjoyed by all
The cottage was spacious, comfortable and warm and equipped to a very high standard. The pool was amazing and we all had a very lovely time. The hosts were very kind and helpful and there was freshly baked bread and a fruit cake waiting for us when we arrived - Thank you.
Relaxing peaceful location
Peter and Liz were wonderful hosts, we really appreciated their patience and understanding with our child's disabilities especially with regards to his nervousness with dogs (and lambs). We would definitely recommend this cottage to families that have similar challenges that need somewhere peaceful to relax. We all loved the salt water pool and we could have happily stayed much longer. The cottage was warm and comfortable to sleep. Great location for visiting surrounding places of interest. Hope to book again (homemade cake was wonderful!) A big thank you
Its was a lovely place
We were very pleased with our stay couldn't have asked for more.
Thankyou for visiting. Sorry not to meet you as we were away at a family party. Pleased everything was satisfactory and that you left the property so clean and tiday.
Chilled weekend in the country.
Four friends and myself stayed at South Ham Barn this weekend and it was brilliant. We swam in the lush pool on Saturday and really made the most of the peace and quiet. The lambs, sheep, dogs and horses were lovey to meet.
There was plenty of hot water and the kitchen is well stocked. We kept the lovely wood burner going as it is a fabulous addition to the lounge and gives a cosy atmosphere.
The beds were very comfortable and everyone slept well. Lovely clean and fresh bedding made it complete.
We wanted for nothing plus the milk and cake on arrival was an additional treat for us.
We are very pleased that it was such a success. Thankyou for staying.
