Dave & Liz Waterfall purchased this House in 2006
Why Dave & Liz Waterfall chose Treffrin
The house is perfectly located for easy access to the footpaths of the Nantes Brest canal and well manicured disused railway track passing through Carhaix from Morlaix to Rennes for cycling and walking. A number of beaches within an hour of the property with free bus service in August If you like the idea of filling your lungs with fresh air during a walk lasting an hour or a whole day, then try one of the many way-marked, accessible walking trails that lead you through the loveliest parts of Brittany. Whether you want to enjoy the peaceful, magical forests of Broceliande and Huelgoat, or the sea-salt panoramas of the headlands at Pointe du Grouin and the Pointe du Raz - just follow the region’s way-marked trails.
What makes this House unique
Close proximity to the Amorique National Park Fishing in the river, canals and local fishing lakes Breton waters are characterised by their great diversity of fish species as well as the presence of a variety of fine fish and some 1700 miles of coastline offer countless spots for fishing. Changing from hidden creeks to jagged cliffs or long, white sandy beaches, the Breton coastline suits many kind of fishermen. Anywhere you choose to cast your line, places never look the same with the tides coming in and out several times a day. Even the colours of the sky above are continously changing. If it's family fishing you want, how about a spot of rockpooling to get young imaginations going? Ideal for exploring the many faces of the canal, a touring trip will take you through the most varied of landscapes. Whether you go by boat, on foot, by bike, on horseback or by canoe, take a look at our 4 'Canals of Brittany' brochures below. There are also plenty of guides available for purchase. The property had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and plenty of space for everyone.
Unfortunately we were not able to make use of the games room as the smell from the damp in the basement was just too overpowering.
Carhaix is just a 5min drive and has all the supermarkets and a nice market on Saturday morning. We found plenty to do within an hour's drive and there's lots more places we'd like to have visited but ran out of time.
We were a little disappointed to find the garden wasn't quite as tended to as it is in the pictures meaning we couldn't get down to the river due to brambles but the gardener did come and mow the lawns on our first day which meant we could make use of the lawns for badminton. Although it would have made a better impression if this had been done before we arrived as it was a big job taking most of the day and meant we had to change our plans of a lazy day in the garden to recover from our trip down.
Good communication from Liz meant we had no problems checking in.
Great base for western Brittany.
We spent a wonderful week at the house near Carhaix and were very comfortable. The house has all the conveniences of home for a relaxed stay. The location is a great base because of the closeness to the highway East and West. We were able to get to beaches near Douarnenez in and hour and the same with Quimper. The megalithic sites of Carnac, Locmariaquer and near Lannion were also a good day out.
We would also recommend La Vallee des Saintes. Although some of the guides made it would a bit strange or baffling it really was impressive, beautiful and worth the visit.
Thanks Liz for a great home for our stay.
Thank you for your review, it is wonderful that you managed to explore some of the beautiful areas in Brittany from Fontaine Blanche, Treffrin, we appreciate you sharing your experiences. We were delighted to host you!
