Our holiday cottage is situated at the end of a no through road, half a mile from the main village road just outside the small village of Lignol in Southern Brittany, which makes an ideal peaceful base from which to explore or just relax, within 100 acres of private land including a small fishing lake (with rowing boat) river, woodland and water meadows. The holiday gite is spacious and comfortable with three large bedrooms, two bathrooms a comfortable sitting room and a large farmhouse style kitchen with table to sit six in front of the log burner. The double bedroom is on the first floor and has it’s own ensuite. The two twin rooms are on the ground floor with large family bathroom. The area in front of the gite is fully enclosed with table and chairs for alfresco dining set underneath a grape vine for shade, here there is a bbq.We are within easy reach of the Brittany beaches and other attractions. Our nearest beach of Lamour Plage is a 40 min drive and the nearest town is Guememé sur Scorff a five min drive away where a supermarket is located. This little town has been awarded the title of “A small city of character “ A barbecue, sun loungers and other leisure items are included in the price. There are also chairs, a garden table and barbecue, in a private garden adjacent to the games room, this is where the solar heated above ground swimming pool is found, this is 21’x12’x4’ plenty of room for swimming, it also has a bathing platform. From the garden there is a gate which leads onto the 100 acres of our private land. You can walk along the river, play poo sticks, build dens in the woods, row on the lake and generally have a lot of fun! The games room has a quarter size snooker table, table tennis, darts, badminton, croquet, basket ball net, football goal net and a gym. An information pack is provided in the gite, which gives details of things to do, market days, locations of shops/facilities and essential telephone numbers. We have two restaurants in Lignol, both are within walking distance along the river. We also have a first class boulangerie in the village. There are also several other restaurants within a ten minute drive. We feel that we offer a unique holiday at Penderff. Our gite is well maintained, decorated and looked after, and more of a home than a holiday let, and is surrounded by bright tubs of flowers. The garden and pool is totally private and secluded and overlooks the forest and meadow land. The children are safe to run about and explore, there are no roads or cars, just freedom to make your holiday you’re own. Whether you want relaxation and peace or adventure and exploration Penderff has it all! We are an English couple (Judith and Jeremy) who are animal lovers with two friendly dogs, one horse and pony, and a very lazy cat. For non dog people our dogs are kept in our enclosed garden and are not allowed to roam except by guests invitation. Follow our lives at Penderff by seeing us on Facebook penderff holiday home. Our guests add their comments and holiday photos and we let you know what is currently happening and any new events. Jeremy and I pride ourselves in giving a friendly personal welcome and we are always on hand to give advice or help if required, we love having our guests each year as I think our reviews testify. Our u.s.p. Is space, freedom, fun.

About judith Bramham-law
Jeremy and I are in our late 50's with one adult son living in England. We originally lived in Buckinghamshire but decided to move to Brittany for a quieter life, which we certainly found at Penderff. Jeremy had a very demanding job in the prison service whereas I was training to be a Councellor in eating disorders and we felt that we needed to slow down a bit. We are very relaxed and informal, there is no standing on ceremony here, life is too short! We have two pet dogs (who not run lose but are kept in our private garden) one cat, one horse and pony and some canaries. We have been welcoming guests here for twelve years and we still love it as much as we did in 2006. We look forward to meeting new people, making new friends, and genuinely enjoy helping people with suggestions of places to visit, things to do and reassure those guests who maybe haven't been abroad before that we are always on hand if needed but never intrusive. We are very aware that a family holiday is a precious thing when families can spend quality time together, enjoy their peaceful surroundings in complete privacy. What we say to our guests if they are worried that their children are being noisy in the pool is that we would be worried if they were quiet. Actually I could write all day on how wonderful we both are (ha ha) but I think that our reviews and our comment book speak for themselves.
judith Bramham-law purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why judith Bramham-law chose Lignol
Why the owner chose a home in this location. We fell in love with Penderff as it is peaceful, beautiful and tranquil, the views are breathtaking, and the fact that we don't have to move off our own land to enjoy fabulous walks whilst not meeting a soul. The gite itself is friendly and welcoming and you feel very relaxed. Locally there are many forests, walks, rivers and streams as well as history in its adjacent towns. There is so much to see and do and we are central for most places in Brittany. We are within 40 mins of the south coast beaches which means that you are not surrounded by crowds of holiday makers and busy traffic, but close enough to enjoy a seaside holiday. The countryside is diverse, its not flat and arable but woods, hills and valleys and the Nantes Brest canal is also close by. We are so easy to get to, 2hrs from St Malo ferry port. We purchased Penderff after only seeing it once, we were that sure.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are within easy reach of towns and shops but whilst at Penderff not a car can be heard. We have 100 acres of our own land for walking around, a little fishing lake with rowing boat, ruins and woods to explore and the river to walk along. Our gite is also available for the first time for Christmas and New Year. You can enjoy a roaring log burner, a real Christmas tree provided by us and mulled wine and minced pies to greet you on your arrival. Why not treat yourself to a Christmas away this year! See us on Facebook penderff holiday home, it all happens here!

Quiet and comfortable
The gite was everything we wanted. Spacious, quiet and safe for the kids (7 & 2). Lots of outdoor space to play and explore, with paths from the gite across nearby fields to the river, lake & woods. Nights were very quiet with only the owls calling,
breaking the silence.
Beds were comfortable, showers hot and powerful and plenty of space to spread out.
The pool was great, though we were too busy to use it much.
Judith & Jeremy were perfect hosts, very friendly and always ready for a chat or to offer advice on where (or where not) to visit.
We would definitely stay again, so thanks again to Judith & Jeremy for helping make a memorable holiday.
All the best, Ewan, Emma, Sam (7) & Iona (2).
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an informative and full review, it really helps our future guests decide whether or not we are right for them for their own holiday. Our usp is freedom, space, quietness and a relaxing time and I think from what you say that you found it here and we are so pleased that you had fun. It was a real pleasure meeting you and it was lovely to know that you chose us from a family recommendation. Come and see us anytime , you would be very welcome.
Great place for a holiday
Lovely place. Really enjoyed the barn with the sports equipment. Good location for exploring Brittany. Great hosts!
Thank you so much for your review, we are so glad that you enjoyed you’re holiday and that the games room was a hit. It is good to have a choice, either chilling and relaxing or being sporty and energetic!
Thank you for choosing us for your holiday, you will be welcome at anytime.
Perfect location & perfect hosts!
We had a perfect family holiday at Penderff, and as echoed in the other reviews, Judith and Jeremy were perfect hosts. They were happy to help, give advice and suggestions where to visit, but didn't spoil the privacy of a much needed quiet break. Our children aged 14 and 11 were made to feel welcome, loved the immaculately clean pool, the well stocked games room, and having a paddle on the little lake. The surrounding meadows and river were just stunning and made for a lovely early morning/evening walks. An easy walk to the boulangerie in nearby Lignol was made more special catching a glimpse of a kingfisher. The gite was centrally located for many of the various sights Brittany has to offer, beaches, the nearby lake, coastal towns, and not far from larger cities such as Quimper. Judith provided us with many recommendations of where to visit off the beaten track, not found in the guide books. Excellent, clean accommodation with a lovely display of flowers in the baskets and tubs. We would not hesitate to return one day. Thank you again xx
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a full review. It was a pleasure meeting you and having you to stay.
When we moved here in 2006 we spent every Sunday for the first year on a road trip around Brittany! We knew that it was important to really know our region inside out so we could give proper informative information on where to go and things to do. We needed to know which beaches for example were suitable for small children or those with teenagers who wanted to surf and be more adventurous. Jeremy and I also like to explore "off the beaten track" and not just follow the guide books, so I'm so pleased that we were able to help you. Thank you also for mentioning my flowers! I take great pride in trying to make the gite look beautiful, the more flowers in my opinion the better.
We would love to see you again at Penderff. Judith
Simply the best!!
This is our second stay at Penderff (and we are already booked for next year) and we simply love it.
The relaxed atmosphere is perfect for a break from our hectic lifestyle and we never fail to find something to do here. Judith and Jeremy are fabulous hosts and have actually become very close friends over the last 7 years with us sharing food and wine on many occasions.
New for us this year was the en-suite bathroom in the master bedroom which is lovely and the new location of the pool is much more private.
Teddy the horse was a lovely surprise as my wife was persuaded to ride on him for the first time in 30 years.
Beautifully maintained with love and pride seldom seen, I can heartily recommend Penderff to anybody seeking peace and quiet in a crazy world!
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was great welcoming you back for the second time with the first time being six years ago. As you saw, since you came in 2011 we have built a ensuite bathroom upstairs and the pool is now completely secluded and private surrounded by a laurel hedge which affords total privacy. It made Jeremy very happy to allow your wife to ride a Teddy after a break of thirty years and it is brilliant that she has taken up riding again on the strength of Teddy! We are so looking forward to your return next year. Judith
Thank you for a lovely week at your Gite. You were brilliant hosts and we really didn't want to leave. The games barn was a great hit, especially on the rainy days! We did manage to go in the pool on a few days and although heated it was a tad on the cool side. Gite was lovely and clean and bigger than it looks in the photos and conveniently situated 30/40 mins from the lake and beach. We look forward to coming back one year
Thank you so much for your review, we thoroughly enjoyed having you to stay. The gite is a bit like Dr Who's tardis, once inside it is much bigger than it looks from the outside. It was a shame that we had a few wet days, as you say, the pool was a tad cool but as we heat with solar panels we needed a couple of hot days to boost the temperature. In July we actually had to turn off the solar panels as the water temperature reached 35 degrees which was a bit too warm! Normally the water temperature is between 26 degrees and 33 degrees.
Jeremy and I are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and it was nice for us to see the games room in full swing. We both hope to see you again in the future.
Lovely gite in extremely quiet surroundings.
The gite exceeded all expectations - very well maintained, and thoroughly cleaned before we arrived. The kitchen was very well equipped with all you could ask for. Having a sitting room with TV/Sky/DVD/CD player was a real bonus. We could have carried out the weekly clothes wash but on holiday! What a welcome! Homemade cake, wine and flowers on the kitchen table. The upstairs bedroom is very well equipped with a great en suite shower room with jet shower. We enjoyed walking round the grounds and relaxing by the pool. Water was lovely and warm. The lake was inviting for a row but we just ran out of time. Didn't use the games room but it had lots to do. Visited local attractions and the coast. Roads are quiet and free from heavy traffic.
Thank you so much for your full and informative review. We are especially pleased that you found the gite to exceed your expectations. Every year in the early spring we both run a critical eye over the gite and always redecorate or update to keep it new and fresh . We also were conscious to make it not just a holiday base but a home from home where you could totally relax and be comfortable. Just a note, although there is a sky box we only receive free view British tv.
Thank you again for choosing us for your holiday and we hope to welcome you back in the near future. Judith&Jeremy
Special interest holidays:
2015 is a very exciting year. The Lac de Guerledan which is 20 miles long is being drained. It last happened in 1985 and next year will be the last ever time this happens. Four million tourists are expected to visit Brittany to see this amazing sight of the hidden villages, houses and the old canal course. It will be fully empty by May 2015 and will remain dry until the autumn. This is a once in a life time event not to be missed. We are a 25 minute drive away from the Lac.
We have had many guests who are artists, they all say that the estate, especially the area around the ruined mill is perfect for painting and sketching, the area is totally unspoilt and untouched.
Children's riding lessons can be arranged a five minute drive from the gite at a fully credited riding school.
Also we can arrange (subject to availability) private yoga lessons, an Indian Head massage or Reiki, all in the comfort of your holiday home.
The truly astounding southwest beaches are approximately 40 minutes away by car with the resorts Guidel-Plage, Lamore-Plage and the Ile de Groix close by. There are many, beautiful beaches in Morbihan, from small coves to large sweeping beaches. You can choose from family beaches which have full facilities, to isolated and wild rugged ones. We are ideally situated for the south and north coasts so you are always spoilt for choice. There are also many islands in the Golfe de Morbihan.

In the village of Lignol we have two restaurants and a bar, and a first class bakery, their make the best croissants that I have ever eaten! In the next village of Kernescleden there is a very good village shop selling all manner of things including wine, it is a 4 min drive from the gite. In Guemene a 6 mins drive there are several restaurants and bars. There are 2 banks, 2 supermarkets, two garages. Here you will also find the doctor and dentist if needed. If its clothes shopping you are interested in, Lorient is the place which also has a world class marina and restaurants. A 25 mins drive away you will find the Lac de Guerledan, its very beautiful and 7.5 miles long. Dotted around its shores are little hamlets, especially Anse de Sordan and Beau Rivarge, both of which have beaches which are safe for swimming, canoes and pedalos for hire and restaurants etc. There are also motor boat trips around the lake. Also in the same area is the lovely abbey of Bon Repos. A 12C Cisercain abbey that is being restored and is well worth a visit. In August every year they host an evening of story telling and lights which is always a sell out. On Sundays there is a colourful market beside the abbey and the Nantes/Brest canal. A little further afield 1hr are the famous standing stones at Carnac, which is at the gateway to the Golf de Morbihan and its hundreds of islands, again one can visit by boat. We give lots of helpful tips and advice in our welcome pack.
Our games room also has gym equipment, cross trainer, exercise bike, lifting bar with weights, used at guests own risk.
Children's horse riding lessons can be arranged at a fully credited stables a five minute drive from the cottage. Past guests fully recommend this.
If the weather is inclement there is a brand new huge indoor pool with water slides, lazy river, spa and sauna at Pontivy, a 20 minute drive away.
