Nestling in a unique bayside setting at the end of a quiet lane where it meets the sea, 40 mins from Cork city and its airport, Beachside Cottage is semi-detached with 2 bedrooms and in December 2014, was upgraded with new laminate flooring to the bedrooms, new bed in the master bedroom, and 19th Century antique French encaustic tiling laid to the sun lounge and bathroom floors. It features a large old stone working fireplace in the lounge and a spacious kitchen/dining room overlooking the sea. The sun lounge provides extra seating and stunning sea views. A small rear courtyard has steps up to a raised garden with amazing views of the bay and a further small walled front garden leads to a slipway to the beach. Enjoy endless hours swimming, rock-pooling, exploring the caves, picnicking, beach barbecuing and sunbathing. Sea bass is fished from here and the cliff walk from the cottage to Ballycotton is breathtaking. A perfect place to enjoy Ireland's unspoilt beauty. There is a Post Office and grocer in Ballycotton, 5 mins by car, with several traditional pubs, one of which has regular live music, and restaurants. There is a wider range of shops in Cloyne, 7 miles away.

About Lina Wheeler
We live in sunny France restoring our old barn tucked away unobtrusively next door to our farmhouse. After years of French family holidays searching for suitable gites we aimed to one day have our own French haven suiting everyone's individual needs. We wanted comfortable good quality surroundings with a bit of "boutique" style to share and enjoy. In 2006 we found our special French home set in beautiful Vendee parklands, completing the farmhouse refurbishment in 2008. Then in 2009 we fell for and updated a little 200 year-old 2 bedroom cottage yards from the beach in S.Ireland. Both are regularly tested by critical family/friends. We feel if they're happy our guests will be too and so far our testimonials bear this out. We just feel lucky to get to enjoy them both.
Lina Wheeler purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Lina Wheeler chose Ballycotton
Simon and I had been visiting different areas of Ireland for over 10 years and had fallen in love with its scenery and its people. We both adore the sea and the cottage's location on the Irish Riviera is incredible with the almost private little beach virtually an extension to the garden and superb constantly distracting sea views all around. Cork, voted one of Lonely Planet's top 10 Cities of the World 2010 with its airport and its ferry route to Swansea is 40 minutes drive, Rosslare ferry to Pembroke 3 hours drive. The coast is warmed by The Gulf Stream, the neighbours are welcoming and friendly and the cottage is surprisingly sound and cosy despite its 200 years. The surrounding area is totally unspoilt and the beach tempting - just to sit looking out to sea dissolves all your worries!
What makes this Cottage unique
The beach is safe for swimming, surfing, fishing and boat launching. There's also a stunning cliff walk to the village and its bars, restaurant and Post Office. The famous Ballymaloe Cookery School is close by offering classes from 2 hours upwards. A perfect weekend would start with a Guinness in The Inn at the Harbour in Ballycotton, followed by a meal there in the fabulous restaurant or some live music in The Blackbird. Next day a visit to Cork to explore the city and go to the covered foodmarket to stock up on local delicacies or to the arboretum and gardens at Fota. On Sunday off to the Post Office for home-made scones, cakes and jam and the Sunday newspapers, a walk on the beach or a swim and a beach barbecue. Then drift off to sleep to the lapping of the waves on the beach.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
What a fantastic retreat.....
......and yet close to amenities, should you feel the need.
Beach Cottage was wonderfully cozy and comfortable. The area had some fantastic beaches which we and our dogs thoroughly enjoyed.
We very much hope to return.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are truly so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and we will be delighted to warmly welcome you back.
So good to wake up to the sound of the sea. Loved to sit in the sun lounge with a cup of tea (or glass of wine in the evening!) and look out to sea.
The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. The flowers left in the sitting room were a lovely, thoughtful welcoming touch. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, which has truly made our day! It means a huge amount to us that you loved the cottage and the location as much as we do, and to be able to share it with you our guests and know that you appreciate it makes everything worthwhile. You have been perfect guests and we would love to welcome you back soon.
Quiet Cottage in a beautiful setting.
My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage for our first trip to Ireland. It was the perfect size for the two of us, but would also be good for two couples or a couple with kids. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed from kitchen supplies, a comfortable living room, and my favorite, the sun porch. I loved sitting out there in the morning drinking coffee and listening to the ocean. It is in a nice quiet country location and the end of the Ballycotton cliff walk is right outside the door. My husband and I took a morning hike on the trail. What beautiful unparalleled views. This was the cottage I had in mind when I was planning my dream Ireland vacation many years ago. Lina and Simon are very responsive and made the whole process of renting a vacation home very easy. I would highly recommend this rental if you are looking to immerse yourself in the Ireland countryside. Ballycotton, Midleton, and other towns are not far from the house. It is also centrally located to everything that Cork and Cork county has to offer. We can’t wait to return. Thank you Lina and Simon for making our dream vacation and our 25th anniversary a wonderful memorable experience. Krystle and Del
This is a perfect location for a peaceful and relaxing vacation!
This was my first visit to Ireland, and it was, by far, the best vacation ever! Lina and Simon are gracious hosts, responsive to any and all questions. The cottage is in a perfect location for rest, relaxation, and access to local color. It was neat, clean, and well equipped for a four-week stay. The cliff walk and the beach were just steps away from the front door. So many positives and no negatives! Thank you, Lina and Simon!
Thank you so much Barbara for such a lovely review. We are both truly delighted that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage and that you have good memories of Ireland to take home with you. We would love to welcome you back!
