Farmhouse Cognac, Charente, Poitou-Charentes with separate Pretty Pool Cottage

You enter through a courtyard with pomegranate tree and wysteria clad walls. This is a totally refurbished old farmhouse with limestone/quarry tiled floors which sits on the edge of a small hamlet in south west France. it is an idyllic location with pretty and romantic additional separate wooden pool cottage. The Charente area is reputed to have the second highest number of sunny days (after the Cote D'Azur). The house is surrounded by sunflower fields and vineyards and is a perfect tranquil haven with only the noise of the birds and an occasional cockerel. You will experience amazing sunsets and magical night skies.

Perhaps the most unexpected and delightful surprise has been the great guests we have had and the charming messages left in the visitors book by our guests - this was perhaps my favourite :

'You should hang a sign on the door of Rocking Horse House warning those that enter, that the day they have to leave their heart will break.'

Notes on accommodation: We have tried to provide everything to the highest standard including Limoge china, Villeroy and Bosche cutlery, lovely paintings and antiques and beautiful glassware because we absolutely understand how important your holiday is and that you do not want to compromise. However we know that from time to time accidents happen so please do not worry. We were recently blessed with a guest who is a brilliant young photographer who, during his stay, took some amazing pictures for us of Rocking Horse House which you can see at http://butlermaddenweddings.dphoto.com/#/album/d5f02p. Indeed he is so clever that it does make the house look rather more glamorous than it is! Outside: The house sits in half an acre of garden with a huge limestone terrace which accommodates the pool which can be heated if required at an extra charge. It is utterly private being in a garden which only looks out over fields and woods. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The only linen you need to bring are pool towels. Other: In the study there is wifi.

Coast/Beach:

60 minutes drive from the wonderful wide and empty beaches on the west coast at Cote Sauvage and an hour and 30 minutes from La Rochelle. We are about the same distance from the classy and stunningly pretty island of Ile de Re.

Travel:

Cognac is reached either by car - 500 miles from Calais (seven hours) - or by train to Angouleme via Paris on the TGV. If you fly then the nearest airports are La Rochelle and Bordeaux (90 minutes).

Distances:

Cognac is a 15 minute drive from the farmhouse at Bouqueville and five minutes from the nearest small town called Segonzac. Bread can be fetched from the local village Juillace le Coq which is 5 minutes away on bicycles which we provide at the house.
