Trulli MatterDomini is immersed in the characteristic “Valle d’Itria“, Unesco’s World Heritage Siteand, at the same time it is situated near Martina Franca, which is 1 km distant and can be reached by foot. Martina Franca is the town of festivals and where the Baroque Pugliese ended. Martina Franca is a typical city situated in the heart of Puglia, the jewel of this city is its enchanted old historic centre, a true Urban labyrinth of narrow streets and dead ends (no through roads), where the simplicity of painted architecture blends harmoniously with the richness of the palaces and the Baroque churches.

The city was built on a hill where its scenery is the green Valle d’Itria, an area declared heritage of Unesco and it is characterised by typical stone cone shaped houses called “Trulli”. The main entrance to the old town is given by a large historic value door, “the door of San Stefano” known as the “Arch of Sant’Antonio”, situated in the 20th September Square. Just inside the main door, you can find the gracious “Rome Square”, which one side of this square is dominated by the Palazzo Ducale, the largest Civil building in Martina Franca, built in 1668. This was the palace of the Caracciolo family. Today it gives hospitality to the Town Hall, the library and the Martina Franca Information Tourist Office.

The Patron Saint is San Martino, which is represented of him on horse giving his cloak to a merchant. The Basilica is located just in the heart of the old town in the Plebiscito Square. The large baroque building dates in the 18th Century, even though it was given the nomination “the state of Basilica” only in 1988. The centre of Martina Franca is charming; it is truly worth strolling around for a few hours to enjoy all the beauty of the city life. The oldest part of the city is called “Lama”, where you can still see peaks of the roofs of the buildings that are a local tradition. Looking around the streets, much of the centre is pedestrian, you can admire many seventh century buildings. Martina Franca is the place where the annual Festival of Valle d’Itria is celebrated, a summer festival all about Opera. Opera and classical music concerts are performed in Palazzo Ducale and in the San Martino’s Basilica. The event takes place at the end of July and at the beginning of August.

Near Martina Franca there is another small city called Alberobello which is 15km away. It is a characteristic town with its old historical centre filled with trullis. Between these two cities there is the beautiful hill named Locorotondo which is 6km away. Another picturesque place characterized by its location on a hill and with it’s beautiful old town. A further 24km down the road you can come across Ostuni known as the white city because of its brilliant white washed housed that truly stand out in the southern sunshine. Like the major part of these little villages, the small town is enclosed with walls and cylindrical towers of medieval origins, narrow streets, stairs and arches that will lead you to its 15th century cathedral. All enchanting places to discover by simply walking around.

From Trulli MaterDomini, you can start some of your day trips by discovering just a few of the wonderful places of Puglia: The Adriatic coast with its beautiful sea and some of the smaller towns like Monopoli and Polignano a Mare overlooking the coast. The city of Otranto, 150km away, Lecce 100km away.

Trulli MaterDomini, with its favourable location in the middle of Puglia between the 2 seas, is in a strategic position for excursions in and around the Ionica coast, Gallipoli, the pearl of the Ionic sea at 140km away is easily reached by car.

The housekeeper provides 2 hour cleaning service 3 days per week, included in the price.

Extra cleaning hours, nanny, cook service and chauffeur can be provided at extra charge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks again for the hospitality.

My wife and I were planning to visit all Puglia during those 14 days, but staying at Trulli MaterDomini was so relaxing and enjoyable that we did not want to leave.

It was one of the best family holidays, where each component of the family had is own space and time to find harmony.

Plus the sun, pool and food created an unforgettable setting.

A great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We were two families staying together for one week at this property. We had planned on visiting lots of the tourist attractions in the area, of which there are many, but the property, pool and outside areas were so lovely we ended up spending the majority of the week here. The outside space really worked for us and we were able to find shade throughout the day, it was 38 degrees! The pool is 1.4m deep with steps and was great for the kids, they were in and out of it all day.

The villa is very well looked after and the internal spaces are light and bright. There is air conditioning in all of the rooms and the bathrooms are modern and work well.

The owners were super helpful and responded quickly to any issues we had, which we really appreciated.

The area is beautiful. Martina Franca is an attractive town with some great restaurants and ice cream shops. We tended to drive the short distance towards the town and park near the Everest super market and then walk as the parking in the town in August was a nightmare.

I couldn't be more enthusiastic when recommending this villa, it is really great. Thank you Dario!!
