Overview

About the property

Family friendly, luxury barn conversions set in over 80 acres of private land. 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom and 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom.

Peacefully situated, these newly converted barns are positioned close to the owners grade 2 listed farmhouse and are surrounded by farmland which visitors are welcome to walk and explore. The land offers views over rolling hills and wooded valleys and from the highest points both Exmoor and Dartmoor can be seen in the distance. A carpet of bluebells fills the woods in late Spring. Some visitors may be lucky enough to see a wild deer or a buzzard soaring overhead. The property is close to Barnstaple with it's pannier market, shops, restaurants, cinema and leisure facilities. Exmoor, a haven for wildlife, horse-riders, fishermen and walkers alike is also within easy reach. The spectacular coastline and famous surfing beaches are about a half an hour away. North Devon boasts beautiful landscapes from rolling hills to wild and dramatic moorland; from stunning sandy beaches to sheer rugged cliffs. Peace and tranquillity, rolling hills, ancient woodland, a perfect rural retreat.

About Jackie Wildig

A warm welcome will await you at Stone farm, our family home. Our family consists of: Me, Jackie, I am an infant school cover teacher. I love to cook and especially enjoy baking, probably inherited from my dad, a baker himself. Mark, my husband, works in the oil and gas industry. He is a whizz at fixing things.

Sam, our son is very mechanical and understands most things technical. (I'm sure Mark and Sam speak a different language to me!) Daisy is a Golden Retriever and is very friendly but rather bouncy! She loves anything from chasing her tail to stealing plant pots! Minnie, our cat, arrived about four years ago and decided to stay. She's good at getting locked in!

Jackie Wildig purchased this barn in 2002

Why Jackie Wildig chose Barnstaple

We moved to Stone Farm thirteen years ago. We all fell in love with it instantly. The position was just what we wanted, peaceful, private, no near neighbours and when we were told there were Bluebells in our own woods, in Spring, we were hooked! We have spent the last ten years renovating the house and it's many barns, in fact Mark has become a bit of a 'barn spotter', pointing out 'nice barns' wherever we go! We are very fussy and have endeavoured to make sure that all our own high standards have been met in Meadow and Orchard Barn. The builders often got frustrated with our 'nit picking', but when the barns were completed in April 2010, even they had to admit that it had all been worth it and that the finished result was 'a proper job'!

What makes this barn unique

Stone Farm is in an excellent position for touring North Devon, close to beaches, Barnstaple and the Moors.

It is set in over 80 acres of it's own land, meaning it is peaceful and quiet and there is lots for guests to explore including a nature trail through private woodland.

The barns are extremely spacious, contemporary and equipped only with new, good quality, fixtures and fittings.

We are very proud of what we have achieved and are delighted that it has been rated as A star or the 'best' by many of our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stone Farm, Stone Farm so good we've named it twice! Two Barns twice as nice as anything else we've stayed in! Twice the space, twice the grounds. It has been a real pleasure to share your home a week and we all enjoyed it immensely.- Rees family 2011

Arriving early evening on Christmas Eve Orchard Barn could not have been more welcoming. Christmas tree twinkling, presents for each of us and home-made chocolate treats on the side! We came for rest, relaxation, peace and quiet and we got it all..-highly recommended.- Kelly, Jeremy, Rhiannon and Dalian- 2011

...By far the best accomodation we have ever stayed in. Your attention to detail shows in every part of the barn...spacious yet cosy at the same time. The peace and tranquility here is unbelievable....Such a warm and welcoming way to spend a holiday which started the minute Jackie greeted us and was confirmed when Sam was so helpful with the audio-visual equipment. Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Fresh linen, towels and beach towels are provided for each guest for the duration of their stay. Duvets can be altered to 3 different tog ratings. Cleaning takes place at each change over. Both barns are fully centrally heated with under floor heating downstairs. They will be enjoyed by guests who are looking for a relaxing holiday in light and airy surroundings. Children who love to explore will find plenty to discover in the woods. We regret no smoking or pets. Outside: There is a patio area with barbecue to the rear of Meadow Barn. Orchard Barn has a two level patio at the front of the property. The lower level, which is walled, has a barbecue. Garden furniture is provided. There is a delightful courtyard garden which separates the two barns and is a wonderful sun-trap. Plenty of parking space is provided at the front of the barns. There is a table tennis table for guests to use in a building close to the properties. Stone Farm is set in over 80 acres of farmland, mostly grazed by sheep and occasionally cattle, guests have free access to this land. There is a family nature trail through the woods with a prize for younger guests. There is an area of ancient woodland where deer, hares and other wildlife are often spotted. A stream creates a natural border for much of the farmland. Both Dartmoor and Exmoor can be seen from the highest points on a clear day.

Fantastic hosts and a great place to stay. Lots of great things for the kids to do and loved weather

  • 5 of 5

Jackie and mark were great hosts and were on hand with any little worries. The barn was very spacious and had all we needed including sky sports! North Devon is a fab place to visit with the kids with lots of local attractions and history to sample. We will be back when kids are older to do the tasks trail.

Wonderful week in a delight property

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed by Mark and shown around the delightful property. It was well equipped and spacious and a lot of thought had gone in to the facilities on offer. We had fantastic weather and were able to have every meal on the veranda looking out over the beautiful gardens and countryside. We would love to return if we ever holiday down in that area again.

Thanks to Mark and Jacqui.

What an amazing weekend!

  • 5 of 5

A much needed weekend break in a beautiful location. Meadow Barn is bright and spacious, furnished to a high standard and fully equipped with everything you could need and even things you didn't plan to need. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable and care free as possible. We had amazing Bank holiday weather which allowed us to make full use of the outside space, and the Barns location made it a perfect for exploring the coast. We will definitely be returning.. and not just for the homemade lemon cake. Thank you Jackie

Lovely conversion in a quiet & peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped, comfortable and plenty of space for 5 of us. Appreciated shed space to store roof box. Enjoyed the nature trail around the grounds. Internet connection was almost non existent so although advertised with WiFi we were unable to use for children’s homework, checking work emails, looking up places to go etc.

Beautiful barn in a beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

The barn itself and all of the contents are to a very high standard. This house has everything you could possibly need and more. The underfloor heating is a particular favourite of mine. A lot of nice comforts added like extra duvets if needed without having to ask, a telephone landline, a little snug play room with a TV and toys. The lounge telly had more channels than we have at home which was nice of an evening. And a really lovely nature trail on your doorstep. Lovely holiday home we enjoyed it very much.
