About Barbara Hubbard
I am Austrian but grew up in Germany where I also worked as cabin crew for Lufthansa for 10 years. We moved to France in 1982 and I lived in Pillac since 1983 together with my three children. Pillac is still the same as it was when we moved here, a quiet and beautiful little village where one can relax and enjoy the lovely surroundings.
Barbara Hubbard purchased this House in 1983
Why Barbara Hubbard chose Pillac
Le Relais is a great place for groups of all kinds. I had groups with activities, like painting courses, writer's classes etc. but mostly the groups are friends and families with ages ranging from 3 month to 90 years. There are all kind of activities for everybody and lots of space inside the house and outside in the garden and around the pool.

Home away from home.
We spent two fantastic weeks at Le Relais. Having come all the way from Australia, it was nice to have a big family get together with our family from the Netherlands, Ireland and the U.S.
The house is so comfortable and homely that it felt as though we had always lived there. The property is incredibly spacious which allowed everyone to have their own space if required.
The kids played in the pool, garden and playhouses day after day. No electronic devices were used throughout our stay.
The nearby picturesque villages were full with culture and history.
We are already planning our next get together in 2019.
Our hostess Barbara was very welcoming and accommodating at our arrival.
I couldn't recommend this wonderful house highly enough.
Thank you Carty for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to meet your group and I am happy that you all had such a good time in my house.
I look very much forward to welcome you all again in 2019!
Holidays in Wonderland !
Barbara's house is very convenient and very big. Adults and kids enjoyed their stay very much.
The garden is so beautiful, with natural tree shadow. The swimming pool is big and very clean.
The all house has been such perfect, and very welcoming. It's been the 2nd year we stay in Pillac and we love it !
Fantastic stay in traditional french house
We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Le Relais. The house was lovely, traditional French. we were a family party of 20, 9 children ranging from 5-16 and 11 adults. The house had plenty of space for us all, the communal areas e.g. kitchen, dining room, living room, and outside space were fantastic. Barbara, the owner was there to welcome us and give us any advice required. the pool area was lovely and a big hit with the children, as was the games room. Free Wi-Fi was also very popular with both children and adults alike. Nearby Aubeterre was lovely. It has a riverside beach for swimming, kayaking, with a reasonably priced café. we also visited Nabinaud (about 8 mins away) for the high ropes course, maze and another lovely beach. All in all, a fantastic family holiday destination that I would recommend visiting . Thank you Barbara.
Beautiful spacious group accommodation.
We stayed here as a group of 25, 10 adults and 14 children.
It was perfect and provided everything we needed.
Barbara was so helpful and we had an amazing holiday.
Sunny holiday at Pillac
Our family of 16 enjoyed the spacious house and the children loved playing in the interesting garden.
We had lovely weather and spent a lot of time at the pool
Such a wonderful place for a large family reunion.
Just a not to say how very much we all enjoyed our holiday and celebration of my sister's 60th birthday last month.
What a wonderful house you have. Such a lot of space, comfort and provided facilities and activities for all generations. We had a fabulous time.
The family reunion with those from England was very special especially for my grandson who met his extended family for the first time, all together. It was well worth the travel from Australia.
We explored local market villages and dined out a few times but time around the house and pool in such a relaxed environment was extra special.
We took many, many photos but one of my favourite ones is taken from my bedroom window. It really captures your house and the French architecture and landscape of the region.
With fond memories for many years to come, thank you.
Aubeterre, officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, is approximately 10 mins drive away. St.Aulay is about 15 mins drive away and both have lovely sandy river beaches with children's playgrounds, water slide and beach side restaurants. There are some wonderful beaches on the Atlantic coast (Royan), about 2 hours drive away, good for a day trip.
Airports: Angouleme, 40 min drive. Bergerac 1.5 hours drive. Bordeaux Airport is also about 1.5 hours drive away. The TGV (train grand vitesse) goes to Angouleme. A car is essential in this area and there are facilities for car hire at all the airports and train station.
Le Relais is situated approximately 5km from both St.Severin and Aubeterre. Both villages have a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurants, butcher and of course, baker! Some 20 minutes drive away are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac. Cognac, really worth a visit and a tour around one of the cognac houses is about an hour drive away. About the same distance south are St.Emilion and the vineyards of Bordeaux.
