Brookfields is an elegant Edwardian property built for the local wine merchant in 1902. It is a light and spacious house with great views of the Shropshire Hills. Having recently been extensively renovated it enjoys both the benefit of period features with all the modern amenities we have come to expect. Beautifully decorated and furnished to provide a lovely comfortable environment in which to unwind. Spacious, comfortable home - great for reunions and celebrations
My second visit. After staying last year with a group of friends, it was so good, we came again for a family reunion. Plenty of space for a large group and everyone was comfortable, from aged 2 to 90. The teenagers loved the hot tub and sauna and some of the oldies too! We all really appreciated having our own beautiful bathrooms. It was great to have lovely walks from the back door and also the convenience of being able to walk into Church Stretton. The kitchen was so well equipped, we were easily able to cook meals for our large group. Jules and James are lovely, friendly hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our family are already planning the next reunion at Church Stretton - no more to be said!
Fantastic house in a great location. We will be back! xx
The house was perfect for my husbands 50th birthday celebrations. There were 11 of us in total and we used all 7 of the bedrooms. Each bedroom is beautifully decorated with lovely views over the hills. The kitchen was really modern and well equipped and we cooked both evenings. The dining room is a great size for everyone to eat together and the large lounge was very cosy for relaxing in after.
We did a great walk straight from the house on the Saturday and it was great not having to use the car.
We will definitely be back to stay here, we just need to find a good excuse for another get together!
We had a lovely chilled weekend staying here. All the rooms are lovely and the house is really well equipped. The location is great too. We walked to the train station (5 mins) and got a train into Shrewsbury on one of the days - cheap and quick to do. The countryside is tempting us to come back and do some walking around the hills. An easy stroll into town in the evening for food. We will be back!
A lovely property-close to it all!
We were a group of 11 people plus 6 mth old twins. The house had a perfectly adequate amount of space for all of us-including at dinner times. We had everything that we needed and it was a warm property-much to my father-in-law's delight! We felt at home here and the kids loved it too. A gentle 5 minutes stroll into town and about 10 minutes to the path up the Long Mynd. We'd more than happily go and stay there again!
Great house for a group
We were a large family group celebrating our mom’s 70th and we had a really lovely time here.
Julie the owner met us on arrival and showed us round, explaining where everything was and how it all worked. She was very friendly and welcoming.
The house was warm and comfortable which was great as the weather turned to snow while we were there. The kitchen was adequate for our needs though some things weren’t working but Julie did say that the builders were due in to refurbish it as soon as we’d gone.
The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms well appointed.
We did a really lovely walk over the Long Mynd on the Saturday and you can start this from the house, you dont need to drive, though if some of your party are less able you can drive up there too.
Church Stretton is a lovely little town with the type of quirky shops you don’t get everywhere, nice places to eat and drink and a fab antiques shop. Loved it!
We cooked up a storm, ate, drank, danced in the kitchen and had a brilliant time together.
Thank you Julie and James, we would love to return and would certainly recommend it to others.
very comfortable and well-appointed stay in lovely Shropshire Town
Despite some inhospitable December wind and rain we had a lovely family stay at Brookfields - situated on the old Watling Street. Church Stretton was a delightful mix of coffee and antique shops with friendly pubs. The owner, James, recommended a good pub for Sunday lunch to finish off the weekend.
If arriving by plane Birmingham or Manchester airports are approx 1.5 hours away by car.
Church Stretton is approx 12-15 miles from the historic towns of Shrewsbury (county town), Ludlow and Much Wenlock. Many historic houses and gardens are within an hours drive. Ironbridge "the birthplace of industry" and its ten individual heritage museums are within easy driving distance. The Severn Valley Steam Railway and the RAF museum at Cosford are also in the locality. Acton Scott Historic working Farm (recently the star of the BBC series Victorian Farm) is approx 10-15 mins away by car.
