Convenient location and lovely house
I really enjoyed my week in this house. It really is only a couple of minutes walk to the main part of Anstruther and having a designated parking space in this area is a god-send. The house itself is modern but quirky; it's split over three floors (so beware of stairs!) and is lovely and bright throughout. Would stay again.
Great place to stay!
Excellent accommodation in a superb location
Comfortable, well-appointed, great location
This was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen had everything we needed for breakfast and supper - we ate out most of the time. The bed was very comfortable and the shower good and hot.
Helen is a great host - many thanks for the fizz, cookies and milk! She replies promptly to all enquiries and is really helpful - we can't say that about all holiday rentals.
The house is in a great location, less than a 5 minute walk to the harbour and all the amenities of Anstruther and a 10 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) to the supermarket.
Just spent two wonderful nights in this lovely home with three friends. Fantastic property with all you could need situated in a fantastic location minutes from the harbour, restaurants, shops and beach.Cannot find anything negative to say.Love Anstruther and have visited many times before(but first time in a rented property), definately wont be the last.
I booked this for my Aunty and Sister for my wedding weekend, and it was the perfect location as the wedding was in the Town Hall! The property was great and spotless, with everything yu needed for the stay. Thanks so much Helen, would definitely recommend in future.
Thanks for your review and for your lovely comments. We hope to welcome you back one day to 23 Crail Road.
Just what we needed
even before our arrival Helen the owner had been so helpful, providing answers to extra questions we had on arrival times etc. On arrival we were met and walked around the property and talked through all we needed to know. It's a lovely home with 3 levels of bedroom and ensure on the ground floor which was good as my husband has some accessibility issues, then kitchen, dining/living room on the middle floor with pull out bed. Top floor is the master room with o suite bathroom. I took lots of washing power, liquid etc but found that the house was full equipped. Lovely home away from home, nice owners who are happy to help with anything including send back my husbands kindle that we left behind. Would go and stay again happily.
Thanks for your review, it's so helpful to get feedback. We would be very happy to welcome you again to Anstruther.
There are several outstanding beaches in the area:
Kingsbarns (7 miles) – a blue flag beach with lots of interesting rock pools.
Tentsmuir Forest (16 miles) – quite spectacular. A large nature reserve where the forest goes right to the beach. On the north side of the beach are seal colonies.
Elie (5 miles) – a wide flat beach on which cricket is played on summer Sundays.
St Andrews (9 miles) has 2 good beaches, East and West Sands.
Anstruther beach is good to explore at low tide.
Anstruther is easily reached by road and is just over an hour's drive from Edinburgh. Several cheap airlines including Flybe, Easyjet and BMIbaby fly to Edinburgh from UK cities, as well as major airlines such as BA and BMI. There are several car hire companies in Edinburgh airport. You can also get there by bus, there is a regular service from Edinburgh. Car is recommended.
In Anstruther itself, visit the Scottish Fisheries Museum, or take a boat trip out to the isle of May. Enjoy the local beaches, take time out at one of the many excellent seafront cafes, stroll round the harbour or take a walk along the coastal path. There is a golf course 10 minutes walk away, a children's playground and tennis courts just next to the house.
It's worth a trip to some of the other East Neuk villages, particularly Pittenweem, which still has a fishing fleet and a fish market during the week. During August the village hosts an excellent Arts Festival. Also Crail and St Monans are worth a visit.
St Andrews is a beautiful university town with much history and excellent cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. For kids, the best beach is the West Sands which is right alongside the Old Course. The aquarium is very good and a great rainy-day option. There is also a good swimming pool at the East Sands Leisure Centre. St Andrews Botanic gardens are lovely on a nice day.
For watersports enthusiasts, or beginners, there is a good watersports centre in Elie. Other places of interest include Kellie Castle, Falkland Palace, Cambo House. St Andrews Castle and Cathedral, The Secret Bunker.
There are several shops in Anstruther including a large Co-op supermarket, butcher, baker, fishmonger, post office and 2 banks. There are several good cafes and restaurants, and a couple for good pubs. We provide full information on these nearer to your stay.
