Farmhouse in St Severin (Riberac / Aubeterre-sur-Dronne) Charente - Short Walk To Village And 10 Mins Drive To Beautiful River Beach

Recently refurbished semi-detached stone french house with secluded private pool and pretty garden in tiny hamlet. It's a short walk to the main village which has baker, cafe, restaurant/hotel and two small supermarkets. The large secluded garden is full of fruit tress and has a lovely view of the village. The south facing private pool has a lovely view of the surrounding fields and a large patio terrace for sunbathing and dining. The pool has a semi enclosed shallow end, a self closing gate. The large, well equipped farmhouse kitchen is the center of this house and has a large dining table for 8-10. Outside there is a new terrace perfect for a snooze out of the sun or BBQ in the evening. We have super fast WiFi too.

About Nick

We are a young family and all love going to France on holiday, the boys are forever in the garden or pool whilst my wife and I spend our time eating, drinking coffee or having a glass of rose as the sun sets.

Nick purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why Nick chose Saint-Séverin

We wanted a place we could have stress free family holidays, where the food would be great and we could fly for the weekend or drive if we were staying longer. We picked this place because its in the Perigord, the gastronomic heart of france, its about the closest place with a significantly better climate and its such a relaxing place.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We have recently built a terrace outside, perfect for eating out in the summer with a glass of wine or two. The large kitchen is at the center of the house, cool in summer and warm in the winter in front of the wood burner.

We have kept a French feel but dispensed with some of the chintz and dark interiors that can characterize some other properties in this area.

We love the location of the house a short walk to the village but far enough out to allow you to unwind in a bit of peace and quite.

We had a great couple of weeks at the house! We loved the lake at Le Jemaye and went there a few times. Dinners at Aubeterre and also the restaurant "La Coquilicot" (a bit in the middle of nowhere turning left out past the mini-golf outside St Severin). Kids were very happy out there, and therefore we were!

Our photos are on Facebook and we've already had 3 sets of couples ask us for the details with the view to booking it up next year - it really was lovely and we'd like to get back there before kids get to school age.

Notes on accommodation: The pool is fenced and walled and has an out of reach security self closing lock. We also have a high chair, cot, additional toddler bed and plenty of kids cutlery, plates and cups. The TV picks normal freeview UK channels. Outside: The garden includes A terrace area/outdoor living room. Shaded eating area at front of house and a large table for up to 10. Fenced & walled off pool area with large patio area, table and chairs for 4 plus sun loungers. Pool has semi enclosed shallow end. Pool is about 4m x 8m. The garden is unclosed/not fenced in and leads to nearby fields and our walnut orchard, we are on a quiet country lane. Utility Room: Washing machine and large fridge freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included in the price. Property is cleaned and linen changed at the end of each stay. We can arrange more frequent changes if required for an additional charge (just to cover costs). Other: Table football table.

Brilliant holiday so different to the usual week in Spain

My family and I had one of our best holidays ever. The farmhouse was perfect for everyone from my 2 year old grandson to my 26 year old daughter and her partner. Would definitely holiday there again.

A little piece of French paradise

We stayed as two families in this stunning property which can only be described as perfect! We loved everything about it, especially the beautiful outside areas where you can relax and enjoy the amazing view to the village of Saint Severin.

The house was well equipped and as such, we hardly ever left the property! However if you do want to venture out, you can access many other places such as Aubeterre and St Emilion, both of which are worth a visit.

We will definitely visit again, highly recommended!! We are missing our little piece of French paradise already :((

Fantastic week!

Great family/large group destination

We have now been to stay here several times during the summer holidays and it is perfect for 2 or 3 families holidaying together. It is very private and peaceful, yet you have the necessary amenities at the end of the lane.

The house is well equipped and functional. My favourite things are: the south facing pool and large garden overlooking the sunflower field, the big kitchen ideal for group cooking and the outside lean to, so you can still enjoy being outside if it rains. And for a Londoner like me, nothing beats lying on the lawn with a drink in hand, gazing up into the infinite night sky.

The children (7 and 6) love the river lakes of Le Jamaye (?) and Aubettere.

Chilled fun times

I stayed with my family and friends during the summer holidays. My daughter and her friends had endless fun playing in the gardens and pool - it was sometimes difficult to persuade them to take a trip to one if the river beaches nearby as they were enjoying themselves at the house so much. This meant the adults were also able to sit back and relax.

Evenings were spent cooking and enjoying our meals outside as the sun set or around the large table in the kitchen area.

The rooms were clean and well maintained and the kids could wind down after a long day having fun in the living room - the table football was really useful.

Great accommodation - easy transfer from Bordeaux airport and lots of local attractions to keep you occupied.

It's definitely on the list for another visit.

Special interest holidays:

We are between Cognac, St Emillion and Bergerac for those that love their wine.


The river beach at Aubeterre is 5 mins drive away. There is also canoeing on the river which is great fun. There are also a great beaches at the lakes of Jermaye and Brossac. Atlantic coast is 2hr 30mins away.


There are a number of local airports served by low cost airlines: Bergerac 50 minutes (Ryan Air) Bordeaux 1h 45 minutes (BA & Easyjet) La Rochelle 2h15 minutes (Ryan Air) Limoges 2h 20 minutes (Ryan Air). Rail Brive 2h 30 minutes (Metro Rail) Angloueme 40 minutes (TGV). Calais 8-9 hrs Le Havre 6-7 hrs (LD lines). Postcode is 16390, village is St Severin if you want to look on Google Maps.


St Severin surrounded by is beautiful small villages in every direction, ones to note are;

Aubeterre (river beach, restaurants & shops), Riberac (large market Friday restaurants and 2 large supermarkets), Chalais - market Mondays, Saint Auyale -River beach- 5-10 mins

Angouleme - capital of the Charante, great shops, museums and restaurants, Bergerac (airport), Brantome – 45 mins

Cognac, St Emillion – 50 mins - Wine

Sarlat, Arcachon -Atlantic Coast resort, Bordeaux (aiport) – 90 mins

Further Details:

The village has a great bakery, 2 supermarkets, a bank & cash point, a bar, a cafe, snack bar, restaurant and a hotel with a restaurant.

Local restaurants are plenty especially in nearby Aubeterre.

The local golf club also has a terrace bar and restaurant and there are also restaurants in Verteillac, Lusignac and Palluaud.

There are also some amzing places locally to fine dine - Château Le Mas de Montet, Bagatelle in Montignac Le Coq (Chef Gareth Morgan cooks 3-4 times a week, 5 courses for 35 euro, the food is incredible, check dates with him on his facebook page) or Hostéllerie du Perigord in Aubeterre

Canoeing, horse riding and two new climbing 'Go Ape' style venues are all within 10 mins drive of the house.

Village tennis courts available for hire within walking distance of the house.
