About Jon Oakley
I live in the south of England with my wife Karen. We have five children, who are now thankfully all grown up and now living independently. I hope! We are both retired and live in Hampshire close to our family and grandchildren and enjoy annual holidays with them both at our house in France and other locations throughout Europe. We bought our house in Beaupouyet in 2010 and have lived there for extended periods of time. We now spend more time in the UK since the arrival of our grandchildren which allows for longer periods for rental being available.
Jon Oakley purchased this House in 2010
Why Jon Oakley chose Beaupouyet
We have always wanted to spend more time in France, as the lifestyle and culture are unique. We have holidayed in a number of areas, but always seemed to return to the Dordogne which has become a particular favourite. During 2010, our circumstances changed in the UK which presented an opportunity to fulfil a long awaited dream of owning a house in the area we love the most. Beaupouyet is perfectly located for access to Bordeaux in the West and the rest of the Dordogne to the East and South.
What makes this House unique
Needless to say the stunning scenery, cuisine and of course the wine makes this the perfect spot to relax, chill out and enjoy the French way of life. It is also a great place from which to explore, whether on foot, by bike or by car. There is masses to experience in this part of the country. There is access to all kinds of outdoor activities, from Fishing to Golf, from walking to Mountain Biking, and of course that energetic past time of reading a book with a glass of wine. The Swimming Pool also provides an ideal way to cool off before returning to the sunbed or having a snack under the veranda.

Gilbert and his family were very considerate and quiet guests. They spent the majority of their time at the house and we are pleased that they enjoyed the surroundings and our attention to their requirements.
They brought a pet with them ( a cat) about which we were unaware until after the booking was confirmed. However this did not ultimately present a problem as the house was left very clean. They tidied away a number of ornaments that were in the room occupied by the cat, although they were not replaced prior to their departure. We did locate them all eventually.
We do not normally accept pets without prior approval as we are conscious that other renters may be allergic to animal hair etc. If we do accept pets a small is charge is made for additional cleaning so that the house is as near perfect as we can make it for future visitors.
This family were otherwise perfect guests and all was left in very good order.
The Atlantic coast is 70kms away approximately. The beach at Arcachon is wide and sandy and has all the amenities that you would expect. There are also two river beaches at about 8kms away with roped swimming area and lifeguard, complete with bars and restaurants - a good day out within a short drive.
Bergerac airport is 25kms away.
Bordeaux airport is 60kms away.
Driving time from Calais is approximately 9 hours.
Car hire or use of car is essential to get around the area.
The property is in the village of Beaupouyet. Nearest towns are Mussidan- 8kms away and Montpon - 10kms away. Places of interest are plentiful. The medieval town of St Emilion, famous for fine wines is 40kms away and the fantastic shopping experience in Bordeaux is 60 kms away. The capital of the Dordogne, Perigueux is 30kms away and it is surrounded by many interesting small Bastide towns which are steeped in history.
The local restaurant in the village is good value and a short walk away. It offers a four course meal with wine starting at 14€ for lunch, and we also supply a long list of other suggested places to eat that are tried and tested personally by us. Supermarkets, banks etc can be found at Mussidan, a ten minute drive away. Leisure activities of canoeing, golf, fishing, horse riding, go karting, bowling, and many more are all close by.
