About Sheila Hart
I'm Sheila, owner of Villa Zafira. I live in Bath with my partner Phil, our lovely dog, Brio and an ever changing selection of other people's lovely dogs which we look after 'as family'while their owners are at work or on holiday. Our children are now grown up so we rarely get together as a family in the villa but enjoy a few weeks' stay a year with friends and sharing this lovely place with guests.
Sheila Hart purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Sheila Hart chose Kalkan
I bought Villa Zafira after a search of the whole Turquoise Coast because I fell in love with Kalkan which is a beautiful place with a unique, friendly atmosphere. The villa is in a great position in the town- close to shops, restaurants, harbour and beach but tucked away from noise, so great for chilling by the pool.
What makes this Villa unique
I'm a keen gardener so I love the flower filled garden surrounding the private pool and the pergola covered with vine and bouganvillia providing natural shade over the traditional turkish relaxation area.Umbrella palms are hard to beat as natural air conditioners when summer temperatures soar and it's a delight to pick your own lemons, oranges, grapes and fresh herbs whenever you visit. I also love all the light, bright space indoors and out with lots of shower rooms and an attic studio so everyone can spread out and there is no need to queue for the loo or shower. I have a great team in Kalkan who look after the villa and my guests. To quote the visitors' book "nothing is too much trouble" for them.

We had an excellent holiday
Rooms and bathrooms were nice. Nice, large sitting room and kitchen/dining room. The whole family loved the pool which was cleaned daily. Nearby to supermarkets, lovely family restaurants and the Harbour.
Would definitely stay again!
My wife and I stayed at Villa Zafira for 10 days in early July.
The structure of the villa - 3 floors with overhanging balconies - not only looks great (very art deco classical) but gives some great opportunities for both shady and sunny areas. As the sun moves round the pool throughought the day, there's always a number of spots where one can take a break from it.
The interior is roomy, classy and, again due to the design, not always as hot as one would think due to lots and lots of french windows which when opened give a beautiful through-breeze. When there's no breeze, the air-conditioning is extremely effective, and available in every room.
The 3 bathrooms (especially the main 2) are very nice and well-appointed - We loved the jacuzzi bath in the main bedroom and the huge shower enclosure in the second bedroom. The ground floor cloakroom is a great bonus.
We didn't do any actual cooking in the kitchen but it was well stocked with cutlery, crockety and utensils. The large fridge-freezer is great and keeps things nice and cold!
The outside dining and sitting area is absolutely delightful and shaded by fragrant plants. The pool is lovely and just the right size for us. The pool area is only slightly overlooked by adjacent properties. Not entirely private but felt quiet and safe.
It must be said that the villa is right next to the main Fethiye/Kas road and for the first few days the sound of the traffic did bother us, but we did start to get used to it and think that if we'd been there with a large family then it wouldn't have been so noticeable. There is a steep road down to the town, but as others have said, taxis are readily available and very cheap. We tended to walk down and cab back!
The location of the villa means that it is more likely to benefit from lovely breezes from the hills, especially in the evenings, so we were glad we were so high up and could also benefit from the fab views from the top terrace.
We had airport transfers arranged for us by the owner, and the maintenance/cleaning team were efficient, friendly and professional (an issue with the internet was fixed very quickly).
Overall we loved this villa, would consider going back and would not hesitate to recommend it as a spacious, well-appointed and well designed property.
Superb Villa, Everything we were looking for and more...Location was perfect as close enough for walkable restaurants and supermarkets, Taxi`s are plentiful and reasonable for the journey into town although we hired a rental car. Villa is modern and spacious with open plan living for families, with 3 good sized bedrooms and safe balconies for teenagers. Pool area is great with good sized, warm pool and lovely seating area, with sea views all around. Sun is on the terrace from 8am till 6pm before falling behind the mountains, Heaven. The pool is cleaned daily. If its your 1st visit to kalkan, like us, please give it a try as very cosmopolitan and brilliant for families with young or grown up kids alike. Enjoy your stay and look no further than this Villa as you won`t be disappointed. Personally I don`t think the photos give it justice. Thank you Sheila.
The villa was as expected and the covered area was lovely when it was too hot. The pool is the same level making it safer for children. Well stocked for all needs. Aircon in each room and balconies on all bedrooms. The maintenance company were very attentive making sure that all was as it should be. We had a fabulous time. The villa sits at the top of a steep unmade road (might be plans to change this). This is not a problem as the taxis are so cheap costs about £2 each way for 6 of us, which does not break the bank. Most places in Kalkan are accessible for a very small taxi cost. All the restuarants in Kalkan are lovely and 6 of us never had a bad meal and its fun trying as many as you can. I am sure we will return to Kalkan and depending on numbers may choose to go back to Villa Zafira
Thanks for sharing your experience of Villa Zafira and Kalkan with future guests. Glad you enjoyed and hope you return. Happy to work with our friends and Kalkan neighbours to accommodate a larger party.
Impressive and relaxing
Excellent and relaxing stay. Property was beautiful, with a mature garden with plenty of shade from the midday sun. The pool and property was well maintained, the local staff very helpful and friendly. Owner organised all the airport transfers and car hire. Lots of nearby ancient sites nearby, like Patara with it's fantastic beach and ruins . Lots of good restaurants in Kalkan, such as Korsan, Chillies and Fenner at the harbour entrance.
Very nice villa with good facilities including air con in all rooms and a small pool. Close enough to Kalkan to walk in although taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced. Our first visit to the area but very impressed lots of good restaurants and plenty to do on trips etc. Highly recommended
Special interest holidays:
Walking holidays. Scuba diving and water skiing lessons.
12 minutes walk to local beach and harbour with free boat service to several beach clubs.
20 minutes drive to Patara Beach (36 kilometers of white sand , beach and water sport facilities, turtle sanctuary and fabulous Lycian site) and to Kaputas Beach (golden sand, safe swimming)
30 minutes drive to Kas beach (swim with dolphins).
Dalaman 1.5 hours drive. Antalya 2.5 hours drive. Airport transfer and local car hire can be arranged. Car hire not essential but recommended if you want to enjoy the many sights nearby. Cheap local taxis and Dolmus buses 5 minutes walk from the villa. 10 minutes walk to town centre.
Patara Beach is a beautiful 20 minute journey away. As well as a stunning beach there is a massive archaeological site, surrounded by interesting flora and fauna.
Kas, the nearest town, 30 minutes drive away has a bustling port, offering range of boat trips, a market, a wide range of cafes and restaurants and craft shops.
Saklikent Gorge with scenic walks, fresh fish restaurants and range of water sports is 40 minutes drive away.
Myra (home of Santa Clause) and other ancient sites are nearby.
The villa is 5 minutes walk to the nearest shops and restaurants. Check the visitor's book and villa guest information pack for an update on favourite restaurants.Within 5 minutes walk are Our Home and Eva's, both very friendly and reasonably priced. Korsan's and The Fish Terrace overlooking the town beach and the harbour are well worth a visit.Likewise the Olive Tree in the Old Town-lots of free extras here so don't order starters or desserts.
The Thursday market off the main road into town is worth a visit for sheer entertainment value, 'cheap as chips' designer copies, local textiles, ceramics, jewellery, spices and low cost fruit and veg.Haggling is fun. All the local characters are there. Visit the pancake stalls for lunch. If you miss it in Kalkan you can catch it in Kas on Fridays.
Plastic widely accepted in restaurants and bars but plenty of bank ATMs line the main street. You will generally get more lira to the pound in turkey than in UK except at the airport, where exchange should be avoided.
Favourite day trips from Kalkan include Saklikent Gorge, Sunken City, Patara and Kekova, the deserted village from Louis de Bernier's novel Birds Without Wings. Further details are available in the villa's information pack and Suat, who runs our airport transfer service comes highly recommended by guests for providing a reasonably priced range of day trips.
If you're planning a special celebration our team on the ground can provide a range of services from fireworks to baby sitting to make the party go with a swing.
Keen walkers will enjoy Kalkan's English walking group which explores the area with walks for all fitness levels every Tuesday. Levels are measured by the number of beers needed to recover in the Our Home hostelry, conveniently round the corner from the villa. News on the walks and other events happening while you're there can be found on www.kalkanlocalnews.com.You can also use this site to find fellow travelers to share airport transfers.
