About Patricia Oliveira
We are two families who have always holidayed together since our children were very small. We first spent a holiday in north east Corfu in 2005, and were so impressed with the area that we found ourselves returning year-on-year. In 2008 we eventually found a suitable plot on which to build our much-loved Koutsounada House. Even after so many years we still look forward to holidaying together in our joint home, and take great pleasure in seeing how the house and garden have developed and matured over time.

Beautiful Koutsounada House
We had an amazing time at Koutsounada House, everything from booking to arrival was smooth. The photos do not do it justice, it's larger and more beautiful. I could not fault a thing, the pool area is so secluded, surrounded by olive trees, all the bedrooms, facilities, outside space are just perfect for a large family. The local Taverna is within a five minute walk, and it's very good, great food and hospitality. The beach is quiet , with an inviting crystal blue sea . We hired local boats from Avlaki Boats and had a great time exploring the coast . We all had a fantastic time, thank you Patricia, Natushka and Yianni, you made our first visit to Corfu a special one, The Tubridy Family, London
We absolutely loved the house. Location was perfect being so close to the beautiful Avlaki beach and taverna.
Well equipped house with lots of sunny and shaded areas.
Beautiful home in the most beautiful corner of Corfu
Koutsounada House is absolutely lovely. The tasteful and restrained decor is elegant, casual and comfortable. The house is very well equipped and oriented toward a beautiful swimming pool set between old olive trees. While it is not right on the ocean, the beautiful cove and tavernas are only a 3 minute walk. We very much enjoyed the quiet retreat after a day of sight seeing. We would definitely return and recommend it to friends.
Many thanks for taking the time to write these kind words. We were very happy to hear that you appreciated the quiet tranquility of Koutsounada House and its proximity to the beach and tavernas. Hope you had a trouble free journey back home after your travels in Greece.
A relaxing retreat close to the sea
My family and I went to Koutsounada in September. We had been attracted to the house by the photographs that showed a well-maintained house, lush gardens, and a beautiful pool. The reality more than lived up to our expectations. The beds were very comfortable, the towels were a good size, the kitchen was well equipped (super for those who, unlike me, want to cook) and there were lots of homely touches (the ping pong table went down very well with the younger members of our party). What clinched the house for me was its closeness to the sea. I walked down to the beach two or three times a day to swim, and loved hearing the sea at night. We had a wonderful holiday, would happily return, and would recommend the house to others.
What a lovely depiction of your stay in Koutsounada. Proximity to the sea is what first attracted us to the piece of land that would eventually become our house, and it remains a constant pleasure to be able to take a short stroll down the lane to the beach whenever the fancy takes us.
We too spend quite a lot of time cooking when we are there, so always try to keep the kitchen suitably well-equipped. I'm glad that you were able to find everything you needed in order to be to avail yourself of local produce to produce family meals.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review, and for your warm words.
Our overriding impression of the villa was that it is in quite a rural location and this means that you need to be relaxed about the number of bugs and creepy crawlies that populate Corfu (especially in late summer). This is particularly the case because the villa is located amongst a number of olive trees. We found that we could not really relax by the pool due to the number of wasps and hornets. No doubt worse because it was August. The pool itself is a nice size but it is not heated. Even in 35 degree weather the water remains pretty cold - worth noting if you have young kids. We noticed that there were a number of snake deterrents around the garden, which meant that the garden did not feel particularly inviting, other than the area immediately around the house. Inside we found lizards and large centipedes running up and down the walls from behind the skirting boards and architraves, which was a little disconcerting for the kids. The property is in reasonable condition - it is not a luxury villa but it is fairly well-appointed. Some things could do with an upgrade as they are looking a bit tatty. By way of example, the dishwasher trays were rusty and the plastic seals around some of the shower doors were mouldy. The villa was reasonably clean (and was cleaned twice during the week) although we felt that it could probably do with a deeper clean. We also had not appreciated that you cannot flush lavatory paper down the loo at the villa (it has to be put in a small plastic bin). The fact that the bins are not changed daily and there is no outside dustbin (as well as a general issue with rubbish collection on the island at the time we were there) is not ideal. However, both the owner and the lady who manages the property were helpful and nice to deal with.
Many thanks for taking the time to write this review. We ourselves very much appreciate the tranquillity, privacy and wildlife which the olive grove setting provides, although of course we fully understand that the Gerald Durrell experience might not be for everyone.
Thanks for pointing out the issue with the dishwasher tray and shower seals, which are already on our list for routine end of season maintenance.
Beautiful Villa in a great location
We loved the villa and the pool was beautiful. The villa is just a short walk to Avlaki beach and a great Taverna. The villa was extremely well equipped and very comfortable. The managers were very attentive and it was kept really clean for the entirety of our stay. The area is beautiful with lots of towns to explore either by car or even better by boat.
So glad that you were able to appreciate all that Corfu has to offer, and that you enjoyed staying in Koutsounada. It sounds like you were impressively energetic in all your explorations of the area - you put us to shame! It’s such a treat having the beach such a short stroll away, with a wonderful taverna on hand for lazy lunches, isn’t it?
Special interest holidays:
Sailing courses (and other water sports) can be found at Avlaki Bay - 300m walk away. Walking in the vicinity is to be recommended; organised walking tours can be found online, as can painting courses. Horse riding is also available close by.
Avlaki Beach is a 3 minute level walk from the house. It is a large horseshoe-shaped bay with an idyllic long beach enclosed by two rocky and densely wooded headlands sweeping out to sea. It never becomes over-crowded, even in the height of summer, as it is slightly off the main routes so is known only to locals and regular visitors to this corner of Corfu. It has been awarded blue flag status, and boasts stunning views of the Albanian Mountains.
Easyjet flies to Corfu direct from Gatwick from 1st April to end October; it also offers flights from Manchester, Luton, Stansted, Bristol and many other regional airports actions the UK. Other operators include BA, Monarch, Thomson, flythomascook, Ryanair, Norwegian Air, Olympic and Aegean. Car hire is advised but not essential. Car hire pick-up and drop-off is available from the airport or in Kassiopi. Numerous car hire companies advertise online and we can arrange taxi transfers on request.
Avlaki beach 300m. Nearest supermarket 2km (free delivery available). Kassiopi 2.5km. Agios Stefanos 4.5km - a five minute drive. Sinies (supermarket and superb bakery - free delivery available) 4km. Corfu Town and Airport 38km.
The nearest town, Kassiopi, is a five minute drive away. Whilst it clearly caters for tourists over the summer months it is still at heart a fishing village with a traditional port. Down at the harbour it is possible to find local fishermen supplying the local restaurants with fresh daily fish. Tavernas, shops, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, doctors, internet cafes, beaches and bars offer something for everyone. Teenagers will appreciate the evening life here and in nearby Agios Stefanos - between them they offer several music bars and 'low key' clubs. It is a safe environment in which to meet other friends. Both the tavernas on Avlaki beach have free wireless internet access. Water skiing, wake boarding, scuba diving, wind sailing and boat hire are all available close by. Water parks are also easily accessible - Aqua Land is the biggest, just west of Corfu Town or the Hydropolis near Acharavi. Scooter, bike and buggy rental are available in Kassiopi. Numerous boat trips, fishing trips and excursions to other locations on the island are on offer locally. Horse riding is available close to the beach at Avlaki. Corfu is renowned for its stunning flora and fauna, most famously visualised in Gerald Durrell's 'My Family and other Animals'. This can be best appreciated in the cooler months when it is possible to walk the coastal and mountain paths. Celebration of Easter in Corfu is a unique experience, and part of an extensive calendar of religious and cultural activities different from anywhere else in Greece. There are numerous celebrations in Corfu Town and in the villages, involving amongst other things philharmonic bands, pot throwing, fireworks, pan banging, sirens and of course feasting. Driving or walking out into the countryside at this time of the year is a reminder of the fact that the festival celebrates fertility and renewal, with the abundant wild flowers providing a rainbow of colours.
