La Tranche sur mer is an unspoilt family-friendly seaside town with a strong 'French' ambience, 60 minutes drive from La Rochelle airport or 3 to 4 hours from the St.Malo ferry. The town has plenty of restaurants, bars and shops and in the summer months is lively with many free activities and street entertainment. The villa benefits from being close to the centre of town but within a short walk or cycle ride of the superb beach of La Terriere which is thought by many to be the best in the area. The beach is well supervised and has free car parking, several snack bars and a surf school. It is easy to escape the crowds by walking a short distance along the huge beach. There are also beautiful forest walks practically on the doorstep. This well-equipped and newly-built architect-designed villa has a heated pool and is set in a private situation with sandy wooded gardens front and rear and several spacious terraces. The Ground floor bedroom / en-suite are suitable for reduced mobility use.

Why D Coleman chose La Tranche-sur-Mer
We purchased our plot in 2004 and the house was completed to our design (David is an architect) a year later. We started coming to La Tranche when our three children were small and we have many happy memories and associations with the area. Our children have now grown up so we tend to use the house either side of the high season. We think our location is great, because it has beautiful natural surroundings and is quiet but it is also close enough to walk or cycle to the restaurants and shops in La Tranche. Our beach at La Terriere is (in our opinion) the best in the area. It is lovely to be able to hear the surf at night and to stroll to the beach through the forest. We also love cycling and walking in the surrounding countryside and coastal routes, which are thankfully almost level!

Great Property! Accommodation outstanding! Magnificent Holiday!
Three generations of our family: grandparents, 2 sons, 2 daughters in law and two grandchildren - covering the age range of late sixties to just under 2, spent a memorable week at this fabulous property!
The bedroom/bathroom ratio meant that all sections of the family had their own space, avoiding all potential strife.The kitchen is well appointed and the range of equipment meant that on the rare occasions when we didn’t want to use the barbecue, meals for 8 were no bother.
The outside space was, if anything, even better. We mostly ate outside on the covered terrace, which also got considerable use later in the evening when the children were asleep and we could enjoy a relaxing glass of wine ( or occasionally more than one!!!).
The “piece de resistance” was undoubtedly the swimming pool, where we spent the majority of our time! Easily large enough to cater for the serious swimmers and the recreational dabblers in our party, it was also ultra safe with the safety railings around it. It kept us entertained so thoroughly that we rarely took ourselves down to the local beach ( impressive though that is).
We used the bikes in the garage for trips to the boulangerie in the village, and the well stocked SuperU in nearby La Tranche caters for our culinary needs ( particularly good fresh fish and shellfish!)
Overall, a holiday destination to be thoroughly recommended. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to share it.
Very well equipped property
Excellent property for our 3 families;10 people. everything we needed for a great 1 week holiday. Heated swimming pool wonderful; all bikes well used. Wonderful area for cycling and walking. Handy supermarket nearby and patissier in village. Highly recommended. Some great restaurants 10 mins. away.
Fabulous house - near to the sea and village.
L'Etoile De Mer was great as was the weather. There were 10 of us and we had a fantastic time. The villa had everything we required. Bikes, swimming pool, bbq, table tennis. Near to the sea. There was nothing else that you could wish for. We have already recommended this Villa to some friends. The restaurant in the local hotel was great - 5 minutes walk. Spent a companionable 2 hours in the local bar when we had our one downpour during the week. The owners of the bar made us very welcome. Will visit again for sure.
Wonderful and relaxing
What an extraordinary property, beautifully designed, with a huge amount of thought that has gone in to ensuring we have everything you could possibly need. Personal highlights were the pool, the hammock, playing boules, the board games, the endless bbq's and the bike rides to the stunning beach. The house and the surrounding area is exquisite. We can't wait to return.
Perfect family villa with pool
We've stayed at the villa three times and love it there. The villa is in a fantastic location, 10 minutes walk from a lovely sandy beach and a short walk from the village bakery, restaurant and bar. A large supermarket and market town are also only a short distance. We often use the bikes at the villa to explore the local area, including the pine forests and beaches to the north.
Best of all is the villa itself, which is set up for all your needs. Both the adults and kids in our party enjoy spending hours on the veranda and in the wonderful heated swimming pool. However, there's lots else to do in the Vendee if you're feeling more adventurous, including boating on the Green Venice canal and visiting chateaux. We'll definitely be returning.
Excellent Holiday Accommodation
The villa was perfect for us – a family group of seven adults and two children aged 1 and 3. It provided excellent accommodation with lots of space inside and outside for relaxing and eating. The pool was comfortably warm and very popular with everyone as were the loungers on the surrounding sun terrace. The very well designed fence with safety gates between the house and pool was a key child safety element in choosing this property, along with the availability of a cot and high chair.
The house is in the village of La Terriere, and we enjoyed our 10 minute walk to the local bakery each morning. The local beach is about a 20 minute walk or 5 minute cycle ride, as is the main town of La Tranche sur Mare with its shops, bars and restaurants. The family made use of the bicycles for travelling around, the area being served by a network of good and safe cycle tracks. The beaches are very good indeed, with expansive dry sand, and use was made of the body boards.
Overall the villa is excellent and provided the focus for a very enjoyable holiday within an attractive coastal landscape. Strongly recommended.
The Vendée is famed for its micro-climate which produces a sunshine record similar to the Riviera. Its beaches are equally renowned for their cleanliness, variety and being relatively unspoilt. La Tranche itself has beaches which are sheltered and interesting at low tide. Our local beach is wide and long with good breakers for surfing and body boarding. It has an official 'clothing optional' area a short distance from the main beach area. The beach is a short walk or 5 minutes drive or cycle.
Nearest airport is at La Rochelle, less than 60 minutes drive away. Other possibilities are Nantes, Rennes, Bergerac or Bordeaux varying from 1.5 to 3 hours drive. Car Hire is available at all. Nearest Ferry port is St.Malo at 3.5 hours drive, followed by Caen, Le Havre and Cherbourg which are 1 or 2 hours more. It is possible to get to the house by public transport i.e. by a combination of plane/train and then bus or taxi. Once there, shopping and getting about can be managed on foot or bike.
La Tranche town centre is approx 1.5km. La Terriere village centre (bakery, bar, hotel/restaurant) is approx 0.5km and the beach is 1km. Large supermaket 5 minutes drive, on the edge of town. There is also a lively and large twice-weekly market in La Tranche town centre which is well worth a visit.
Changeover Day: Changeover day is generally on Saturday. Other times may be possible by arrangement. Notes on prices: Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Payment in Euros is possible. We prefer to let peak season weeks in minimum two-week slots but one-week slots are sometimes available.
