The Grove forms part of the Springfield Farm Estate and is a fully self-contained 4 bedroom house with its own terrace overlooking the lake. With two double bedrooms upstairs with their own shower room and a master double and twin downstairs with large family bathroom, The Grove is equally suited to two families sharing the kitchen, dining and sitting rooms on the ground floor. It was converted in 2008 and has all you would expect from a high quality holiday home together with beautiful furniture - much of it hand-picked from France. There are walks from your front door in every direction across the Mendips behind you or down through the Chew Valley in front. There is superb fishing available on the lake as well as sailing and bird-watching. Golf, equestrian pursuits, rock climbing and caving are all available within ten minutes and with Bath and Bristol only 25 minutes by car, you'd struggle to find somewhere better positioned for all you want to do on holiday.

About Liz Fox

Neil is a marketing strategist working with some of the UK's best known brands. Having taken three years out to complete the renovation of Springfield Farm he's now back at work with leading UK charities and retailers.

Liz Fox purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Liz Fox chose Bath and North East Somerset

With Neil having grown up in the Chew Valley and Liz in rural Somerset, it was a natural choice. As soon as we saw the views from Springfield Farm, we knew we had to try and convert the buildings into something worthy of the location. It's position overlooking the lake and across the hills and valleys to Bath and Bristol is truly breathtaking - in all honesty, the photos simply do not do it justice!

What makes this cottage unique

There's little doubt that if you want to explore the best things that Bath and North Somerset have to offer, you will be in the best possible place to do so. Combine that with an exceptional place to stay, the only struggle you will have is whether to stay in or go out. A browse through the comments that our guests have made about staying here since we opened in April 2009 is a better indication of what it is really like than anything we can say.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We booked last minute directly with Liz and could not have been more delighted. The Grove was beautifully clean, spacious and with amazing views over the Chew Valley to the lake; the photos don't do this place justice. We arrived to a delicious cream tea and had an amazing cooked breakfast on our first morning - all courtesy of the very generous welcome hamper. Peaceful and secluded but perfectly located for exploring the many delights of Somerset, sheep with lambs and ponies in the fields - highly recommend anyone to book this place - thank you for an amazing few days.

Perfect location, perfect garden, perfect property

  • 5 of 5

I booked the property as a surprise to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday with my family and I. It was just perfect. The cottage offered everything we wanted and a lot more. The photos really don't do it justice. The location allowed us to venture into Clevedon, Bath, Wells, Bristol and Cheddar. Thank you for letting us stay. We will be back!!

Surprise Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Large comfortable property, plenty of space for the 8 of us.

Brilliant view, good and functional facilities.

Plenty of space for the kids to run in the garden and say hello to the horses........

Good access to local amenities in Bristol, Weston, Portishead and Clevedon.

Will bear the property in mind if we visit again.

Well kept cottage in a tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

Flexible out of season dates allowed the 6 of us a longer stay fitting around a weekend worker's leave.

Arrived to find a welcome "pack" with everything for a much appreciated cuppa, plus cream tea with scones/jam/cream before unpacking. It also had breakfast cereals, bacon and eggs.

Lots of space, entry is into open plan kitchen with dining area, then through to living room with 3 big comfy sofas and stairs both up and down to the bedrooms. Early season weather meant we couldn't make use of the terrace, but in the mists the 15 minute walk (gravelled ) to the Smitham chimney in the woodland opposite was wonderfully mysterious. Spent a lot of time just hanging around the cottage, taking turns to cook meals.

For trips out we visited Wells ( market Wednesday and Saturday) with it's moated Bishops Palace , Cathedral and old buildings in Vicars Close... and enjoyed Wookey Hole caves (book online for discount), Glastonbury Tor and rural life museum, and Cheddar Gorge early in the day while it was quiet. There's a cafe at the far side of Chew valley lake where we watched ducks attempting to fly against the wind.

Being cosy and spacious we didn't care about the weather it was a great place to stay for out out of season holiday, lots more to see in the area than I expected. Many thanks Ken & family and friends

Perfect Property for New Year Break

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable and well equipped property. The owners have obviously taken a lot care with the decor and furniture. Everything was clean and in good order and we appreciated the welcome pack of groceries. The views are stunning and the location is just right for walks or for driving to some of the nearby towns and villages. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Grove for 3 nights for a family function in a nearby village, and absolutely loved this cottage. The rural location is spectacular with views over the surrounding countryside of the Chew Valley, yet within easy reach of several villages. We visited Wells and Bath during our stay as well as the Cheddar Gorge, all easily accessible from The Grove.

The cottage itself has everything you need - it was clean, well maintained and welcoming. We stayed in December and found the cottage warm and cosy. The property is of a good size and is ideal for a family or group of friends. In particular, the fact that the bedrooms and bathrooms are located over 2 floors means that there is more privacy than in a conventional layout.

The booking process was very efficient and the welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch that was appreciated by all.

We would definitely recommend The Grove to anyone looking to explore this beautiful part of Somerset, and would be happy to return ourselves.
