Fabulous week in Stone Cottage!
Fantastic little cottage in a beautiful location. In the many years we have been renting direct from owners we have never had a property so well equipped with EVERYTHING you could possibly need for your stay, including a British plug extension lead. Local taverna serves good homemade food with a friendly welcome. Would thoroughly recommend Stone Cottage!
We had a wonderful time in this lovely cottage. The place is set within an amazing garden, which allows you to forget about the whole world. The cottage itself is very comfortable, with everything we needed. The bed was super comfy, bed linen crisp and fresh, the towels and bathrobes soft, super-fluffy and extra-white. Kitchen was supplied with all the appliances and the whole house was sparkling clean. And Kefalonia is such a beautiful island, we spent Easter there, before the tourist season, and it was truly amazing to have it almost for ourselves! We loved everything about our holiday and the stone cottage was the best part of it, if you like quite and relaxing holiday it is the best place to go!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, much appreciated. I’m pleased to hear your positive experience and to read your appreciation of the cottage. I looking forward to welcoming you back should you return to Kefalonia. Best regards
Peaceful and secluded character filled cottage with views!
We had the most glorious 17 nights in this tranquil and private cottage. Jerry met us on the 1st night and called in on our last day and answered a text query promptly during the stay. Apart from that we had total privacy and peace. We loved the terrace with Valley and sea views and the outdoor kitchen. Nothing but the sounds of birds and goats!
The cottage had absolutely everything we needed, especially the kitchen and we had the biggest welcome pack we have ever had with wine, beer, cheese, ham, fruit and much more!
We had clean linen provided to change bed throughout our stay.
We travelled to gorgeous places and found quiet beaches and felt like we had moved there rather than just being on holiday! The local Taverna owner was friendly and we ate in several places in local harbour too, which we loved. We joined Jerry for cocktails on our last evening and can't thank him and local car hire company (who picked us up and returned us to airport) enough.
A fabulous rejuvenating break which was total perfection apart from the mosquitos!
Beautiful location, very tastefully decorated, extremely well equipped, cosy and comfortable.
We loved staying at Stone Cottage. It was perfect for a couple. The decor was delightful, everything worked well and it was exceptionally well equipped. There were many thoughtful touches such as providing a multi adaptor plug, hairdryer, toiletries in the shower and a very generous welcome selection of drinks.
Gerry was welcoming and hospitable and made it all very easy for us to settle down in the cottage. It was so nice to be located in a small Greek village and hear the sounds/see the sights of 'normal' life. It was a great spot from which to explore the mountains and the coastline and we particularly enjoyed going down to Agia Efimia to enjoy the harbour, the little beaches and the great selection of restaurants. Everyone was so friendly - we definitely want to have another holiday based at Stone Cottage.
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review, it is very much appreciated. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. It's so pleasing to get such positive feedback. We look forward to welcoming more guests who will appreciate what the cottage and area has to offer. Best regards
We had a lovely, lovely stay at Stone Cottage. It was a lovely surprise to find that the owner had left milk, wine and beer in the fridge and toiletries in the bathroom, along with other provisions. Very thoughtful!
The house is lovely; small but plenty big enough for two and looked delightful. And the gardens are so nice it was hard to leave the house some days. I took lots of photos!
We ate at the local taverna several nights and it was really nice, especially as it was just a stroll away.
We hired a boat in Agia Efimia on one of the days and I would really recommend it.
All in all, a lovely holiday in a lovely holiday house.
Lovely cottage. Small cosy with lots of character. Well equipped with everything you need. It's set in large gardens with different seating areas including a good outdoor kitchen space with a BBQ which we enjoyed using. Good views down to the coast from our morning coffee spot! Generous welcome pack. The village gives one a taste of real Greek life, there is a thriving cafe in the square and a good taverna. At the end of two weeks you're greeted like a local! Cottage provided a good base for exploring this part of the island and Agia Efimia is only a short drive and is very pretty with good choice of tavernas and cafe's as well as all your food shopping needs. Lots of beaches to explore and some breathtaking scenery.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and I would love to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards
A 10 minute drive west of Kalivaki is Myrtos Beach - voted one of the top ten beaches in the world. 25 minutes to the east of the cottage is Antisamos Beach - the location for part of the film set of Captain Corelli's Mandolin - an ideal place for snorkelling. In Agia Efimia, 5 minutes driving from Kalivaki, there are numerous small beaches and coves, some can only be reached by hiring a motor boat and so will give you the seclusion you may wish for.
Kefalonia Airport is approximately 40km from Makriotika, about 50 minutes driving. The port of Sami is a 15 minute drive from which you can catch a ferry to the beautiful island of Ithaca, to Patras on the main land of Greece and to Italy. A local bus service runs to Myrtos Beach and in the villages in the valley (further info. available at the tourist office in Agia Efimia). Should you wish to explore the island a hire car is recommended. Taxi are readily available.
The capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, with its wealth of shops, restaurants and bars, plus the Archaeological Museum and Corgialeneion Historical and Folk Art Museums is 30km. A 15 minute drive away is the Port of Sami which has a medical centre. The fascinating Drogorati Caves are 11km away and the Mellisani Underground Lake, just outside Karavomilos is 6 km. To the south of the island Poros is 30km and Skala 40km. To the north spectacular Assos is 10km and picturesque Fiskardo is 30km.
Agia Efimia has several supermarkets, 2 bakeries, a post office, a chemist, a cash point, numerous tavernas, bars and coffee bars. One can hire cars and mopeds and motorboats in the village and book tennis courts and scuba diving or water ski lessons. The municipality of Pylaros, in which Agia Efimia is located, offers numerous enchanting walks both in the valley and the surrounding mountains with breathtaking views and wonderful varieties of flora and fauna.
Local villages, such as Dendrinata and Drakapoulata, offer an insight into unspoilt Greek rural life and numerous buildings and sites of historical interest. We recommend a trip to Mount Enos, Kefalonias highest mountain, to enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Kefalonia and other Ionian Islands. Stop for some local wine-tasting at the village of Frangata.
Follow the dramatic cliff and mountain road to Myrtos Beach, then wind down in the atmospheric little harbour of Assos. Take a boat trip from Sami across to nearby Ithaca or take the twice-daily boat trip from Fiscardo to explore Lefkas.
Explore the fishing port of Fiskardo for its smart yachts and charming narrow streets of Venetian-style houses. Native to Kefalonia are some of the best beaches in Greece. Hire a small boat and spend the day visiting tiny isolated beaches and coves all along the pretty coastline. Drive along the main coastal road to Sami and stumble across small scattered beaches amongst the rocks.
Much of the busy nightlife in Kefalonia is concentrated in the main town of Argostoli. The central square is lined with many restaurants, cafes and bars.
In Kefalonia you will find an abundance of spectacular scenery, traditional tavernas, stunning white beaches and warm, friendly Greek hospitality.
