This lovely country house is set on top of a hill within 30 acres of tranquil Alentejo countryside, surrounded by cork and umbrella pine trees. There are spectacular views stretching 20 km to enjoy during the day and fantastic clear skies for star gazing at night. The large terrace offers ample shade, a cooling breeze and a sparkling salt water pool to enjoy on long hot summer days. It is the perfect location to view the spectacular spring flowers or observe the abundant bird life - including storks and eagles. The house is comfortably furnished and fully equipped for easy living. When you venture out you will discover the pleasure of eating and drinking locally produced food and wine, the region is renowned for its wonderful pork. The unhurried pace of life, the friendliness of local people and the stunning beauty of the Alentejo will make this holiday an unforgettable experience.

About The Owner

I am a retired 62 year old UK citizen living in Somerset. I have three children and so far two grandchildren. I speak reasonable Portuguese and the property is looked after for me by an English woman who has lived in Portugal for nearly 30 years and is bilingual.

The Owner purchased this villa in 2004

Why The Owner chose Ourique

We bought the land and had a house built on it in 2004. We love the peace and tranquillity of this part of the Alentejo and the friendliness of the local people. It is very different to the Algarve!

I am a wheelchair user and the house is completely accessible. There is an electric hoist for access to the swimming pool should it be needed by a guest

What makes this villa unique

The property stands in 30 acres of private land on top of a hill affording 360 degrees of beautiful uninterrupted views. The area is ideal for bird watching and walking.

The nearest town is Ourique which is only 8 kilometres away and has a supermarket as well as many cafes and restaurants. It is only just over an hours drive to the beautiful and unspoilt west coast.

accommodation. This is a very beautiful house, ideal for a relaxing,

stress free break. The location was wonderful, it was nice to feel we

were in the real Portugal. We came with high hopes and expectations

and even these were exceded. Our children absolutely loved the

swimming pool, weather was superb. View from terrace and night sky

with stars were unforgettable.

Notes on accommodation: There is a wood burning stove for heating in the winter and wood is provided. Outside: Outside you will find a large covered patio with dining table and chairs, sun terrace with sun loungers, hammocks. A swimming pool (4m x 10m) with easy access steps. The pool is maintained once a week. Utility Room: The large utility room has a washing machine, large fridge/freezer, iron and ironing board and double sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided. Other: The dining hall has a table and chairs to seat eight and a lovely old dresser.

Rural Portugal at its peacefull best

Great Villa in a wonderful location, if it's a relaxing peaceful break you are after this is the place to go.

Its about a couple of Km. from the nearest paved road and the final approach up a rough track may put some off but for us it just added to its rural charm. The kitchen and utility room were well equipped with all the usual appliances, the large fridge-freezer perfect for chilling the Sagres, Super Bock and Alentejo whites!! We dined under the stars on the spacious patio every night and for most of those were joined by an inquisitive fox, unfortunately the hoped for wild boar didn't make an appearance. Even though it was mid-summer and not the best time for bird spotting we managed to identify 20 different species in the immediate vicinity of the property. The shade of the umbrella pine at the edge of the patio and the salt water pool gave welcome relief from the mid-day sun. Given the day time temperatures of 30c+ the interior of the villa pleasingly remained pleasantly cool. As we had no problems during our stay we had no reason to call upon the services of Maxine, the owners representative in the area but the couple of questions put by email to John were answered promptly. The real test of any property or destination is whether you can wholeheartedly recommend it to friends and family and if you yourself have plans to return. In this case the answer to both is a resounding yes.

Maison en pleine campagne

La maison est vraiment très jolie et très bien équipé. Dommage qu autour de la maison rien ne soit entretenue , les herbes sont tres hautes impossible d accéder à L endroit pour sécher le linge . En cas d incendie la maison se retrouve vite encerclée . C est vraiment dommage car la vue est splendide et la piscine est géniale . Attention pour monter à la maison il faut minimum un 4x4 car la route n est pas goudronnée . Nous avons passé un séjour tres reposant malgré tout et le propriétaire est vraiment très gentil .

Owner's Response: The ground around the house has now been cleared of trees and vegetation. A fire break has been created around the perimeter of the land in accordance with government regulations. The track to the house does not require a 4x4 vehicle, any car driven carefully can easily access the house.

Maison isolé

La maison est tres spacieuse , et la piscine agréable . Cependant aucun entretien extérieur , végétation à L abandon . Pour aller étendre le linge c est impossible on se pique avec les arbustres .

Les fenêtres ne possèdent pas de volets , pas très sécurisant alors que la maison est complètement isolé. John cependant reste toujours joignable par mail et essaye de répondre aux demandes .

The fabulous west coach beaches are a 50 minute drive away. Much of the west coast is designated National Park and undeveloped. There are surf beaches, quiet protected river beaches for children, remote coves and cliff top walks.


The nearest airport is Faro which is about a 75 minute drive away. Alternatively there is Lisbon which is a 2 hour drive. Car hire is essential, the house is 8km from Ourique, the nearest place to access public transport.


Ourique is just 8km away, a charming friendly town with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, health clinic and library. You can access the main train line between Lisbon and Faro at Funcheira about 10km away. Castro Verde, Almodovar, Beja, Evora and Mertola are just a few of the interesting towns and villages worth visiting for their Moorish castles, churches, roman ruins and local craft markets.
