Situated within the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy, Genévrier is a traditional Quercy cottage occupying a secluded, south-facing hillside position above the small village of St. Martin Labouval in the Vallée du Lot. Set in eight acres of its own land amid oak trees, juniper bushes and box together with wild orchids and honeysuckle, Genévrier has all the ingredients for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The Vallée du Lot is further south than some people realise, spring comes early, summers are usually hot and dry and autumns are delightfully warm. It is a land of warmth and sunshine and spectacular beauty, scented with juniper and thyme and alive with butterflies, the perfect place to relax and unwind. Providing exclusivity and independence the cottage, which has recently been lovingly restored, offers simple but very comfortable accommodation for five guests and has been furnished as our home as opposed to a ‘holiday house’.

Best holiday ever in best house ever
It's a great property with everything you need and the sweeping views of the valley are breath taking. The house is well appointed with all the amenities you need and the outside dining is next to none.
The pool was great and where we spent most of our time. You can even swim in the Lot river!
Overall tge best stay ever I would highly recommend.
Out of this world
What a wonderful and memorable holiday. The location really is so peaceful woth breathtaking views across the valley.
The cottage is so beautifully presented with everything you could wish for or need.
Our children loved the pool and all the wonderful land to explore.
We have booked to return which as a rule is not something we would do (usually try a different country/area every time). This must be France's best kept secret.
The local area is full of lovely places to enjoy delicious meals and a great spot to explore the beautiful Lot river.
I can't recommend this wonderful place enough.
Excellent location and a very peacefull setting
Fantastic property, very homely and welcoming. Plenty to explore and some beautiful villages and towns in the area. We had a fantastic two weeks and really enjoyed the peaceful setting and spent hours relaxing and enjoying the pool with our family. I would fully recommend this property and is one of our favourite holidays...
The perfect gite!
Genevrier is a lovely old farmhouse, sitting in large grounds on a hillside looking down over woods to the Lot valley. It's wonderfully quiet and peaceful and surrounded by nature - deer, wild boar, red squirrels can be heard and, occasionally, seen along with numerous birds, bats and butterflies...
The house feels much more like a family home than a holiday let - it's very comfortable and extremely well equipped. We had everything we wanted for a great holiday - the welcoming bottle of wine was a generous start to that holiday!
This part of France is very scenic, peaceful and relaxing - there's lots to do either in the immediate area or within a short (one hour) drive. Local markets provide a great shopping experience - the one in Limogne (on a Sunday) is a good start to any holiday, big enough to offer a great selection of local produce...
We've stayed in a number of holiday homes in France over the years, but this is the only one we want to return to but for two weeks (or more) not one!
A little piece of heaven here on earth...
A magical, serene place
This is a magical place, full of character. It is set in a beautiful location in its own grounds where you see nothing but trees and greenery and flowers, and hear nothing but the birds and the cicadas. We were able to relax and unwind in complete peace and tranquillity. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and very comfortable, and the cuisine d'ete is a wonderful shaded place to have all meals (and it's especially useful to have the extra fridge/freezer and sink).
The delightful pool is just down a few steps from the cottage and has lavender along one side which attracts hundreds of butterflies. There is plenty of space for lounging in the sun.
The property has only one small bathroom, with no bath, but the shower is good and strong, and we were never short of hot water. Note there is no dishwasher.
During our stay we entertained a cat (feral, but seemed to "belong"). She demanded food, and we fed her, but if you're not fond of cats you might want to check the cat status before booking!
This cottage will welcome you, befriend you and beguile you ... and you will never want to leave.
Genévrier is situated in the Lot Valley near the confluence of the Lot and Célé rivers. Cahors, the charming capital of the Lot is a leisurely forty minutes drive west along the wonderfully scenic river valley road.
It is around nine hours driving time from Calais; all but the last 20 minutes can be driven on the autoroutes. Rodez airport is the closest at around an hour. Toulouse airport is about a 90 minutes drive, whilst the airports at Carcasonne and Limoges are both around 2 hours.
The cottage is approached off a quiet lane and there is ample space for parking. The area within the immediate vicinity of the cottage is grass and has a mixture of mature oaks, scrub oaks, juniper and box bushes. The rest of the land is a combination of woodland, field and ‘causse’.
Daily essentials are available in the village of Cénevières, about 3kms. Whilst the small town of Cajarc, which is an enjoyable 10-15 minute drive along the beautiful, superbly scenic river road, has a wider range of shops and cafés as well as a regular market. An excellent local Sunday morning market is held in Limogne, 10 minutes or so away.
Cahors is the principle town of the region and a visit to see the beautiful fortified Pont Valentré with its Devils tower is a must. Stroll around the narrow medieval streets of the old quarter, visit the Romanesque cathedral of St. Ètienne and enjoy the colourful market on Wednesday and Saturday morning in the cathedral square. And, during your visit take time out to have a meal at one of the many splendid restaurants or just relax at a pavement café and watch the world go by.
Situated within a national park, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty, rich in history and architecture, where rugged limestone cliffs surmounted by ancient, picture postcard villages, rise hundreds of feet above the river Lot as it meanders and winds its way through fields of sunflowers, tobacco and maize.
There are many places of interest to visit in this beautiful region. The medieval village of St. Cirq Lapopie, perched on the cliffs high above the river, the prehistoric cave paintings of Pech Merle at Cabarets, the working museum of agricultural life at Cuzals and the 13th century Château de Cénevières, are all within a very short drive. A little further afield is spectacular Rocamadour, a medieval town that seems to defy gravity as it clings to a sheer rock face 1600 feet above the Alzou river.
