A Romantic Getaway, traditionally restored in the Heart of Ronda!

Bedrooms 1
Space 914 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 60 nights

About the property

A large double bedroomed flat, great for couples, super mountain views!

Santa Cecilia is in the heart of the town centre. The apartment has been recently refurbished (April 2006) with a traditional theme. There are two balconies from the main apartment and also a large roof terrace, equipped with loungers, tables, chairs and a BBQ. Even though traditional, Santa Cecilia has been equipped with modern appliances so you can enjoy cooking or relaxing in one of the oldest towns in Spain. The dinning room has been furnished and decorated with a traditional theme in mind. The furniture was hand made by a local carpenter. From the balcony you have the Plaza Carmen Abela, to the right and Santa Cecilia, below. Local tapas, restaurants and bars right on your doorstep. The traditional lounge is equipped with a brand new flat screen TV and DVD/CD system. Two easy chairs and sofa allow you to laze whilst watching the latest film. Ask us for further details.

About Andrew Jones

My name is Andrew Jones and I consider myself Welsh - though I was born in England. I am married with a gorgeous wife and daughter. Since leaving school at 17 years of age, my career over the previous 26 years has been associated with electronics, IT, business and finance. About 10 years ago, my wife and I decided to purchase 2 properties. I live in Rogerstone, Newport, South Wales and for my sins support the local Rugby team - Dragons (always the under dog but a team that punches well above its weight).

Andrew Jones purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Andrew Jones chose Ronda

In the centre of the great town of Ronda....

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great base for discovering Andalucia. Had a great time exploring the region. The apartment was ideal and eating al fresco on the roof terrace with its wonderful views was just perfect. Mrs A L Morris.

A lovely apartment in an ideal location. The views from the roof terrace are great and the apartment has real character and charm. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit during the feria and will return again. Mrs M J Jones.

We found the apartment very comfortable & clean and could not fault its situation within Ronda centre. Ronda itself is a real gem and we spent many hours exploring the town and surrounding areas. Very pleasant holiday, would recommend this apartment and Ronda to anyone wishing to visit the real Andalucia. Mrs K Johnson.

Central, convenient, clean and comfortable

It's not easy to carry out a completely honest review of any property without mentioning the bad with the good and that's certainly the case here.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week in Ronda - we went out into the countryside in our hire car a lot, but it was great to come back in the evening and have all of Ronda's great cafes, bars and restaurants at our disposal, unlike previous holidays where we've stayed in idyllic pueblos blancos up mountains which have one bar and a part-time shop if you're lucky and it's a 20+ minute drive down hairpin bends to 'civilisation'.

This apartment was spacious and for the most part comfortable, apart from the bedroom, which was pokey.

We tried to decide what we would do with it if it was ours to make it work better and concluded that we would turn the sitting room into the main bedroom, make the large dining room into a living room/dining area - it's easily big enough - and turn the current main bedroom into a 2nd bedroom. And install split aircon throughout; the two portable units weren't up to the job and with only one exhaust hose only one could be used at a time anyway.

Disadavantage of a changed layout is that the main bedroom would face onto the noisy, sometimes fumey street, but the windows could be kept shut with aircon support until the heat had gone out of the day.

We found the best way to manage the heat was to keep the roller shutters down (as far as they permitted) during the day and open everything up once the heat had dropped off. Leave everything open all night then close up the next morning before the outside air temperature reached that inside.

Private holiday accommodation can often give off a slightly worn, unloved vibe, which can also be part of its charm and this apt felt a bit like that: a little bare, some kitchen cupboards not closing properly, dodgy power sockets, bidet not plumbed in etc. However the apartment was immaculately clean and on the whole well equipped. A kitchen basics set of condiments, like olive, oil, vinegar, pepper, herbs would be appreciated, as would a mini hi-fi with auxiliary input.

It wouldn't take much to sort out the niggles, however, so maybe the owners will cast an objective eye over it out of season and see what they can do to cheer it up.

Estate agents (realtors) have a mantra for property: 'location, location, location' and this one has it in spades for a holiday base in Ronda.

Owner's Response: Hi Peter Many thanks for your comments - we have been renting out our apartment for over 10 years and we do receive seem to receive a mixture of, "Marmite comments", guests either love it or hate it. We have considered modernising the old place, but some friends and guests really like the fact they are actually living more like the locals - in a traditional way. I will speak with Marie, who looks after our Spanish property and forward your most appreciated comments. Muchas gracias - Andrew

The place that Earnest Hemingway called, 'the most beautiful town in the world', is Rich with history.

Ronda's origin lay in prehistoric times. In its earliest history Ronda was inhabited by the Celts. At about the time of Christ the Romans were the rulers. On the outskirts of the town is the Roman stronghold of Acinipo with its ancient amphitheatre. After the Romans the Arabs brought prosperity, and named it, 'Madinat Runda'. There are many examples of the Arabic legacy throughout the town.

The bullring is the oldest in Spain and the largest in the World. The famous bullfighter, Francisco Romero, revised the corrida to fight the bull on foot with sword and cape instead of on horseback. His grandson, Pedro Romero, is Spain's most famous and revered matador, killing 5,600 bulls in his lifetime.

The other famous landmark is the New Bridge that crosses, El Tajo. Built during the Catholic period it connects the old city with the new.

You can fly to Malaga, Seville, Gibraltar or Jerez airport.

In the heart of the town centre.
