Very spacious and sunny villa with pool, just 40 minutes north east from Bezier medieval city centre and 45 minutes from the beaches. The house is located in a very quiet and picturesque village St Jean de la Blaquiere, located approx. 8km from local amenities in Lodeve and A75. An excellent large supermarket is 6km away, easily accessed. The property is surrounded by a small garden mainly to the rear with exquisite views of old olive trees and vineyards with a south facing patio/decking area and solar heated swimming pool. The villa is large open plan & spacious to a high specification. All areas have quiet air conditioning that automatically lowers fan speed near set temp. There is parking for 4 cars by the side of the villa and electric security gates to keep property secure. The villa is set back off the road on the outskirts of the quiet village (like a hamlet), yet within walking distance to boulangerie, cafe, wine tasting (degustation) and tennis court. It is conveniently located 40 minutes drive from Beziers airport or an hour from Montpellier. The property is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, very close to Lac de Salagou, St Guilhem Le Desert, St Saturnin (famous book Virgil’s Vineyard) and Cirque de Navacelle. Famous Millau bridge north 59km, close to Roquefort Cheese tourist centre. Carcassonne Castle is 1 1/2 hours drive. There is a wide selection of beautiful country walks and local horse riding. Property completed in June 2008.

About Paul Ross
I quite like to travel and have been searching for many years to find the right location to build a property. I had the opportunity to visit Croatia & Portugal and then the Languedoc and was blown away by the beauty. I grew up in California as a child and missed that climate in the U.K. I really enjoy this part of France as the weather reminds me of my childhood, yet has all the cultural elements that makes life interesting as an adult. I have always been keen on going on adventures and this project was no exception. My father suffered a heart attack and changed my perspective on what was important in life and we both spent time together visiting the building project and exploring the area, which has made a huge difference. I'm semi-retired now and looking forward to spending more time at the villa. The area is so unspoilt with reduced tourism compared with Provence, with so many interesting places to visit near by. Once visited it will bring you back time & time again. I hope you have the opportunity to visit this lovely place :)
Paul Ross purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Paul Ross chose Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière
Back in 2005 I met up with a friendly lady called Sally who lived locally in lodeve. I was on the quest to find the best location in the area to build a property with the most spectacular views, a task too great you might say. Well, I looked in Portugal, Croatia and last of all the Languedoc in France and have not regretted it one bit! It was more work than expected and had the usual problems with builders, but eventually found a little place in heaven. The property is in a fab unspoilt location with far reaching views, the property has everything you would expect from a high end rental and Jacqui the house keeper is very helpful. I now have more time spend there, where the climate is great and the relaxed pace of life helps you recharge your batteries. In the mean time let me know if you would like to go in search of what I still think is the most lovely part of this beautiful country.
What makes this Villa unique
Great location with amazing panaramic views, easy to reach from most airports, with excellent roads. Quiet village location, within easy reach of local amenities. Fantastic places of interest within a few miles and wine and food to die for. The property has some nice touches with some paintings done by my family together with tasteful furnishing & comfortable seating. It is nicely designed with large open areas, fantastic kitchen and comfortable dining area. The neighbors are very quite and privacy is assured. The pool is solar heated and panaramic views towards fields and olive trees await you!

A really cool holiday home!
Beautiful views in a peaceful setting were enjoyed by all in this family time together. The exceptionally hot temperatures were so much easier to cope with, given the excellent air conditioning throughout the home. The quiet buttons in the bedrooms were great to use at night. Two fridges were so appreciated for plenty of cold drinks and the ice dispenser was well used!
Two upstairs bedrooms were ‘proper’ ensuites, the two downstairs almost were. Each had their own showers but shared a nearby WC.
The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and we were able to drop off bags early before doing the ‘big shop’. Jackie was really helpful without being ‘in your face’.
Loads to do nearby, particularly loved Pont du Diable. Boulangerie was five minutes walk away in the pictoresque village.
Only downside to the property, which would not affect everyone, was the angle of the drive on entering the property. My car (Nissan Pulsar) is very low and so the front rubber spoiler came off the first time I (very slowly) drove out. My son’s hire car (Renault Twango) had no problem and I suspect most cars would be fine.
This was a really enjoyable time and one of the best villas we have stayed in. Hoping to return!
many thanks for your kind review! The gate stop is on my list next time I come down, thanks for reporting this. Glad your party enjoyed the area and hope to see you again.
kind regards Paul
Great Villa- Fab Location!
Always a pleasure staying at this Villa, the Village is so quite yet you are in reach of the best places to visit in the area. Check out the views, extinct volcanoes, lush vineyard's and old Olive trees just behind the pool. The property has been improved over the years to a high specification with nice personal touches. If you haven't been to this area before cheap flights via Ryanair to Beziers only leaves a short drive of 40 minutes. Awesome area, keeps me coming back, time & time again :)
Beautiful location for peace and tranquility. Lots of interesting places to visit by car. Definitely recommend this villa and the area.
Glad you enjoyed your stay & look forward to seeing you again 😊
A delightful property very clean and well furnished
Such a beautiful house with spectacular views and so many interesting places to visit with not too far to travel. We loved the restaurant in the village, very friendly owners and sampled all the wines grown around the village. We plan to return next year to see some of the places that we missed. Thank you Paul for all you did to make our stay a happy one.

Perfect for our relaxing break
Second visit to this villa and it was (again) just what we wanted. We arrived early and went straight to the villa as we knew where it was, etc. having been before. Alison was part-way through the cleaning, so we just left our bags and went off to do the "big shop". Alison was extremely welcoming and accommodating, sorting out the gas bbq and showing us the new sunloungers, stored cushions, parasol, spare bed linen, etc.
The villa and its location is perfect for us: quiet, relaxing, well equipped, clean and tidy.
The weather was always hot and sunny, with the odd day of high winds (even the cantilevered parasol could not cope in some of the winds, but that's not the fault of the villa!). The pool is perfect to get you through the hot, sunny afternoons. The cold beers are perfect to get you through an early evening game of boules on the gravel area. The warm, calm evenings are perfect for a twilight bbq and fantastic views as the sun slips down behind the house.
It's great to have bread and the newspaper ("Midi Libre") within walking distance in the village ... and a quick coffee or beer before the 500 yard walk back!
There is plenty of great local produce in supermarkets at le Bosc or Lodeve: fresh fish and meat for the bbq, fantastic fruit and cheeses, and local wines (we became addicted to St Saturnin rose and Jordy reds). Try the Aveyron Sausage and Aligot.
Restaurants involve a bit of a drive (except the village bar), but the roads are good and the food is always worth it. Too many to list, but plenty to choose in St Felix, Clermont, Lodeve, and even Cartels.
We didn't use the TV, but UK stations all available if you need to keep up with the news ... or the soaps. Local radio (Bleu Herault) is good for local weather, traffic, etc. and relaxing by the pool. Maybe a portable radio at the villa for the kitchen and outdoors would help (and stop draining my phone/speaker batteries!).
All in all, the perfect place to relax and live in peaceful, rural France.
Really glad that you enjoyed your stay, will look into a small sound system to play from WiFi. Many thanks for the comprehensive review, look forward to seeing you again in 2018.
All the best Paul
Having stayed at several villas along the Med coast over the years I can honestly say this is the best villa me and my family have stayed in. Were everything stated in the description on the website was true to the last detail. Mr Ross's support staff in were very helpful during a power cut to the village in finding out when it would be restored and sure enough it was . The whole experience was relaxing and enjoyable and I would recommend the villa to anyone.A D Millington.
Glad you enjoyed your stay and glad the staff were able to help when you needed it. Worth noting that Green bins in France are for garden rubbish, not glass & plastic bottles, these have to be taken up to the recycling centre locally. We've labelled the bins to make this clearer.
Special interest holidays:
Wine tasting in the village for local wine and excellent day courses booked through creme-de-laguedoc.com, English speaking, great local knowledge.
