Wonderful family holiday!
This was our first time staying at Fontaine du Roy & won’t be our last!
It’s a beautiful, well equipped & maintained gite with a fab pool which our daughters (7 & 5yrs) loved. Our hosts Karen & Tom were really welcoming & had lots of useful tips about places to see.
The village of Villamblard is 5mins drive & has some local shops where you can buy all the essentials if required.
The gite is in a peaceful spot amongst woodland (great for bird / deer / boar spotting) & a great location for visiting the sites of the Dordogne by car, there are plenty of places to see as a family & we particularly enjoyed the towns of Brantôme & Beynac.
We had a wonderful holiday & can’t wait to go back!
So pleased you had a great vacation. Look forward to welcoming you another time. Thank you
Perfect peaceful holiday
The gite is fantastic which we already knew as it was our second visit. It is so peaceful but within 30 minutes of most of the main attractions in the Dordogne. The pool was a welcome retreat as most days it reached 35 deg, the gite has everything required along with perfect hosts Tom and Karen. A must whilst you are in the area is the Nocturne Marche, an evening market that serves fantastic food but at reasonable prices along with a fantastic atmosphere
Thank you so much. We do upmost to make sure you have a fabulous holiday.
Peaceful Gite in the Dordogne
Fontaine du Roy is in a peaceful, idyllic location surrounded by countryside. The gite was clean & well equipped & benefits from its own pool & sun terrace. We were welcomed by the lovely owners Karen & Tom who holiday in their attached gite & the property is maintained & cleaned by a friendly English speaking local couple who live nearby.
A car is essential, there are no villages within walking distance, but the gite is well located for exploring the Dordogne region.
Gite with family appeal
This was the perfect base for a much needed family break. The gite was well equipped but our lives centred around the welcome coolness of the pool. Days started with a 3 mile cycle ride to the boulangerie for fresh bread and croissants (up hill return, but very achievable as a family) before trips to visit the delights of the Dordogne with caves, canoes and cafes in the most stunning historic towns. TV available (tell the kids it's only in French if you want to avoid TV for the break!) but not needed and when faced with the option of booking a restaurant for our last night they all wanted to stay home and BBQ! The owners were next door when needed, but you wouldn't know they were there. Would certainly recommend.
The gite is a 35 min drive from Bergerac airport which is served by both Ryanair and Flybe. It's approximately a seven or eight hour drive from the north coast and Channel ports. Use of a car is essential.
The gite is situated about 3kms from the pretty village of Villamblard, and just 20 minutes drive from both
the famous market town of Bergerac, and the medieval capital of the Dordogne region, Périgueux.
The Dordogne region has been a popular tourist destination for many years. A visitor is spoilt for choice as to how to spend their time. The area is especially renowned for its prehistoric caves, rivers, numerous chateaux, and some of the most beautiful towns and villages in France. Visit one of the local markets to sample the produce of the region, or enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace of a village cafe. For the more active, there is canoeing, walking, cycling, tennis, horse riding and swimming. Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of south west France.
