About the property

4 bedroom, 3 baths with sweeping views of fields and distant mountains, sleeps 8

Looking for the perfect house in the heart of the Berkshires for a family vacation or get away with friends? Look no further. This 4 bedroom, 3 bath converted apple barn on 2 1/2 acres of rolling lawn and fields will exceed all of your expectations. The Apple Barn at Deer Hill is being offered for rent for the first time. This unique property is located in the quaint and bucolic town of Richmond but is only minutes away from the restaurants, shops and theaters of Lenox, Stockbridge, and West Stockbridge. The Apple Barn offers something for everyone all year round. A mere walk across the street to the Hilltop Orchard and Furnace Brook Winery and your family or guests can enjoy miles of trails for hiking in the summer, snow shoeing or cross country skiing in the winter, apple picking in the fall, and wine tastings and cider donuts all year round. The area also boasts 4 downhill ski resorts within 30 minutes, miles of trails for hiking or biking and several nearby lakes for boating and swimming. There are dozens of near by restaurants for everyone's tastes from family style to top rated gourmet. When it comes to culture one hardly knows where to begin. Tanglewood is 10 minutes away, and there are so many summer stock theaters within 20 minutes of the Apple Barn that you will find scheduling your evenings to be a challenge. Then there are the museums. The Norman Rockwell Museum, Edith Wharton's The Mount, Hancock Shaker Village, The Clark Museum and Mass MoCA are only a few examples of interesting and educational opportunities nearby.

The Apple Barn has two floors, with open living spaces. The décor incorporates the color and style of local artisans while remaining true to the barn's original features: open beam ceiling, wide pine floors and bow framed walls. Mounted in the decorative loft are two original ladders from the days when the neighboring orchard brought its apples here for sorting and storage. Two large decks, one complete with a gas grill, offer beautiful sunrise and sunset views. The rolling lawn is perfect for outdoor games, or quietly swinging under the grape arbor. The first floor contains a large entry room which opens to a game room, complete with a 65 inch smart TV, VCR, DVDs, puzzles and board games. The second floor living space includes another 65 inch smart TV, an open and spacious living room, dining area, kitchen and pantry with washer/dryer. The hallway leads to the four bedrooms. There are two master bedrooms, one with a king size bed, the other a queen, both with en suite baths. The spacious bathroom in the hall, complete with a cedar shower, is shared by the other two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. All mattresses are brand new with bedspreads and quilts of fine quality.

Whether you come for the peace and quiet of rural Richmond or all of the activities the Berkshires has to offer, we are sure that you will always cherish the time that you spent at the Apple Barn.

Wonderful stay at the Apple Barn

  • 5 of 5

We spent two nights over President’s Day weekend at the Apple Barn and had a wonderful time. Theee adults and four kids were very comfortable in the space. There was more than enough room for everyone to spread out. The kids could hang out downstairs with their own tv as well as ping pong and air hockey while the adults were upstairs but it was comfortable for everyone to be together too. The space itself was beautiful with cathedral ceilings and a huge amount of natural light. The views were wonderful - rolling hills with the Berkshire mountains in the distance.

The house was immaculately clean when we got there and Jack the caretaker was extremely helpful in showing us the property. Lynne - the owner - was very easy to work with and was very communicative throughout the rental process. The house was better equipped than any other we’ve stayed in. It has any cooking tool or machine you would need and there were more than enough plates, cutlery, etc. for everyone. In other rentals dining service was often piecemeal or completely lacking. We were all able to sit together comfortably at either of two large tables in the kitchen and dining areas.

The house was very well located for our winter trip. We were about half an hour from skiing at Jiminy Peak and Butternut and fifteen minutes from Lenox.

Overall - I would recommend the Apple Barn without hesitation. We are already looking forward to our next trip.

Clean and Well Maintained Getaway with Friendliest Owners

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time staying at the Apple Barn! The owner and caretaker were just about the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet, and were incredibly responsive. Everything was processed quickly, with frequent and clear communication. When we arrived at the property, Jack gave us a detailed tour. Everything was IMMACULATE, and I mean that in all caps. It was the cleanest property I have ever stayed at, period full stop. This includes all manner of hotels, timeshares, and other rental properties. Everything was ready for our arrival, the lawn was freshly mowed, all the linens were clean, folded and accessible. The house wasn't just clean, but also clutter-free and very accessible. The kitchen is well-appointed with gear and had basic supplies stocked for use, which ended up being great because even though I brought half of my own kitchen up I forgot olive oil! Anyone who likes to cook will be happy here. There are even handy instructions printed up for using all the appliances which include a nice espresso machine, an electric griddle, a stand mixer and an ice cream maker. The ping pong table and air hockey table were in good shape. There are two gigantic televisions with easy to use instructions, and the wi-fi password is available right on printed cards. The owners have assembled a great binder of local info for guests to peruse.

The heat works great. We didn't get to test the AC because it was a bit chilly.

The view is spectacular and the whole vibe was very relaxing. You're close enough to town that you don't have to drive far to get basic supplies but have enough room on all sides to enjoy your privacy. There is a winery within walking distance that makes fresh apple cider doughnuts in the morning. I would one hundred percent recommend staying here again, and our guests said they wanted to make our trip an annual one!

All Around Great

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this place is top notch. The location is fantastic with gorgeous sweeping views of countryside and a winery across the street! It is close to all the required sights for a visit to the Berkshires but nestled in its own private and roomy spot. The home, a charming converted barn, is equipped with all the modern amenities one might desire plus lots of room for entertaining and accommodating different age groups and activities. All in all, it has everything you could possibly want in a rental and then some! We visited in the spring and can only image how gorgeous it would be in the fall.

Great Weekend in the Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Apple Barn. The house was well equipped and beds were extremely comfortable. We went on great hikes, visited the winery, and did some local shopping. Would love to visit again in the wintertime and do some cross country skiing right across the street!

1/2 way between Boston and NYC

  • 5 of 5

We met our friends from Boston at the Apple Barn!

The home is conveniently located near major roadways so easy 2.5 hour drive from NYC or Boston.

The home is spacious and the amenities are lovely, with a "country chic vibe". Beautiful views let you know you are in the country but lots to do nearby. Don't miss the wine tasting at the winery down the road! We hope to back.
