Location, location, location!
If you want to be as close to the water as possible, this property is it! Beautiful views over the harbour, in the centre of everything, and you can hear the sound of the waves. As a working harbour and next to the pub there is some noise but this was expected and did not disturb us or detract from our amazing stay. It is a bit of a walk uphill to the parking but it's good exercise! Well stocked kitchen equipment and comfy bed. The living room has also been updated. Would happily (and plan to) stay again in the future. Thank you so much!
Views to die for morning and night, seven of us age from 10 to 73, relaxing, rock pooling, walking, browsing, and of course meal drinks and laughs in golden lion pub next door, we had a fantastic week. House could do with a little tlc but was very comfortable. Would recommend and go back.
Loved the location and proximity to the beach etc. House needs a little TLC but absolutely fine for our time there!
A gorgeous fisherman’s cottage right on the harbour slipway in Port Isaac. Ideal location for restaurants but you need to book.
We will miss waking up to the sound of the waves and the beautiful view of the sea.
Nearest parking was about a 10min walk along the coastal path and we could always find a space. Free parking from 6pm to 9am.
The filming of Doc Martin took place whilst we were there and the view from the bedroom window was perfect. They even filmed outside the cottages front door!
Location is fantastic .... but
First of all, we really enjoyed our stay. The location of the house is beyond comparison. The views are spectacular. The building is what’s shown on Doc Martin when people go into the ‘pub’ - but obviously the pub (inside) scenes are filmed elsewhere. At least twice we had people just open the front door and walk in thinking they were going into the Doc Martin pub !
Some things were not so good. The front door is in an alleyway between the property and a restaurant. Sadly, chefs from the restaurant stand outside the front door all night smoking and in the morning, all the rubbish from the restaurant and all the cigarette ends from the chefs is piled up outside the door. It was pretty smelly and not very nice. Inside the house the bedrooms were comfortable but the shower was just a dribble. In the kitchen, the fridge was small, the microwave did not work and the cooker kept turning itself off after it had reached the temperature you set it for. For a house that sleeps 6/7 rather puzzlingly there was only a 2 seater settee and 2 armchairs in the lounge, which had there been more than 4 of us would have been something of a problem. Another thing that was weird was that the front door lock is a Chubb type lock and only one key was supplied. This means if one person goes out you either have to leave the door unlocked (hence people walking in thinking it was the pub in Doc Martin) - or you have to lock everyone in (and how do they get out if there’s a problem) - easily sorted by simply installing a Yale type lock and giving visitors more than just the one key.
Being totally honest, we had a really good time, we enjoyed the house but with a little effort (and definitely a word with the restaurant next door asking for some consideration from the workers) it really could have been so much better.
Beach is 2 seconds away just outside the door. Polzeth is the local beach plus many others also fantastic walks to Tintagel and Padstow.
Wadebridge 10 miles, Padstow 18 miles.
