Accoce is an old Souletine farmhouse sitting in the middle of its land at the end of its own drive, looking out over the valley to the south and west, with a rugged peak and wooded crest behind. The house dates from at least the 16th century and has kept its beams, fireplace and old staircase. It boasts a good library with a good mix of light and serious reading and an enamelled log burning stove that can heat the whole house.
Accoce is ideally located for hiking, as beautiful walks can be taken directly from the house without using the car at all. The GR10 passes through the village, and we provide information about many other local hikes (Pic d'Orhy, Pic des Escaliers etc). Fantastically fun for children: aside from playing in the stream and under the waterfall, they can bounce on the trampoline (currently waiting for new mat. We do not know if it will be ready for use during the summer months of 2018) or make huts or treehouses in the woods. There is a wonderful swimming hole 5k away (in the Saison river, with rock to dive from into icy clear water, otters, trout). The beach is 1½ hour away (Basque coast), La Pierre St Martin ski station is 12km away, handy village shop and bar is at the bottom of the hill, within easy walking distance. Good and friendly restaurant in the village. Clean mountain air, peace and quiet, the tinkle of sheep bells.
