Les Tachats is located on the outskirts of the picturesque hilltop village of Hautefort, in the Perigord Noir region of the Dordogne. An area of rolling hills, historic chateaux and picture postcard villages. The cottage and studio were originally a tied "fermette" owned by the chateau. The building has been beautifully restored retaining many of the original features and is set in extensive floral gardens which continue to win prizes in the 'Hautefort in Bloom' gardening competitions and are open for charity once a year. There is a solar heated swimming pool and childrens paddling pool with a generous sun terrace which benefits from a south facing aspect and panoramic views of the valley and the chateau. Les Tachats is ideally situated to visit the many attractions of the Dordogne.
Please note that the gardens will be open to the public for charity on Sunday, September 2nd between 10am and 6pm.

About Sheila Weedon
We are a semi-retired professional couple in our 50's who moved to France from Hampshire in 2004, to indulge our love of good food, good wine, and a passion for our garden. Having spent many happy family holidays in the Dordogne, our two sons have now grown up and our 7 grandchildren are now also regular visitors. We are friendly people who thoroughly enjoy meeting our visitors and our aim is to ensure that our guests have an excellent stay.
Sheila Weedon purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Sheila Weedon chose Hautefort
We fell in love with the region whilst enjoying a number of family holidays. This was primarily because of the beautiful countryside with its lakes, rivers & forests, the wealth of visitor attractions and the friendly local culture. Our village at Hautefort St Agnan is particularly pretty with a premier chateau, a 17th century hospice museum and a charming old quarter nestled around the chateau. The village also has good amenities including a number of restaurants, shops, bank ATM, doctors, dentist, etc.
What makes this Apartment unique
Staying at Les Tachats offers the benefit of being able to both relax in very quiet, beautiful surroundings, not overlooked by other properties, but also being a few minutes walk away from the village shops and supermarket. One can take a stroll in the morning for the fresh bread & croissants without having to get in the car and also visit the restaurants in the evening & enjoy a glass of wine with a meal without having to drive back afterwards.

The Studio at Les Tachats - A little Gem
We have just returned home having spent 9 days in this most tranquil of locations, the Studio was well appointed, the gardens and pool to be enjoyed. Sheila and Kevin have created a lovely oasis, they were charming Hosts and could not of been more helpful, the welcome pack much appreciated, the Barbecue and Kevin's bread all a lovely touch. It is a beautiful area, so much to see and do and we especially enjoyed our walks into Hautefort via the alternative route just enjoying the wildlife, and the peace and quiet of the area, yet the Village, Chateau, Supermarket, Restaurants all nearby. We loved it thank you both.
We thoroughly enjoyed having these very friendly guests to stay.
We do go to every effort to make Les Tachats enjoyable, so it is lovely to have our efforts appreciated. We were delighted to see them enjoying themselves and relaxing so well.
Cellar Conversion (Be wary about staying)
The location was nice. The owners were friendly, but the accommodation was very disappointing. The 'studio' is really a converted cellar/undercroft that is very damp and low. My partner at 6 foot tall, had to stoop for most of the stay. Constant use of air freshener and de-humidifier was not enough to make it pleasant. What is on offer needs to be made much clearer.
We are devastated by these comments. What a shame these guests couldn't have told us if they were unhappy, if there was anything we could have done to make them more comfortable, we would have done our very best.
We would ask any potential future guests to please read all of our other reviews too before making their decision.
Fantastic stay in Hautefort
To say that our stay in Hautefort was fantastic would be an understatement. I travelled with my husband and our two kids (7,5) to this lovely part of France. I was worried that the studio apartment would be dark and musky but it was bright, inviting, cool, and quiet. It was so clean and welcoming. The owners had a bottle of wine, cheese, bread, butter, milk and juice waiting for us on arrival. The grounds are gorgeous! The garden is amazing and the pool area and playground were used constantly by my kids. The owners were helpful and friendly. The night market in St Agnan that they recommended was a real highlight of the trip. I would also highly recommend dinner the owners offer for a fee. It was definitely the best meal we had in France (and that is saying something!!!). At night the studio was dark and quiet. We slept like logs. Booking this beautiful and relaxing property really made our trip. I would recommend this property to anyone and everyone.
Peace and quiet with wonderful hosts
Beautiful setting with lovely gardens and cows in the adjacent fields. Amazing sunsets. Well appointed studio apartment on bottom floor of converted chateau worker's cottage. When we were there we had the place to ourselves as the upstairs cottage was not occupied at the time. Sheila and Kevin made us so welcome and we particuarly appreciated the lovely welcome pack of baguette, juice, milk, cheese, butter and wine. The pool (which was well kept and clean) was used most days as we had such wonderful weather. Ideally situated for discovering the wonders of the Dordogne with a supermarket 5 minutes walk and the lovely village of Hautefort with its chateau about 20 minutes walk. Would definitely recommend this as a lovely place to stay in the Dordogne.
It gives us great pleasure to see our guests enjoying Les Tachats to this extent and we go to great lengths to facilitate this. We hope that many more of our future guests will share these sentiments.
Bijou and lots of fun for the kids
We had a lovely welcome from Sheila who was the perfect hostess throughout our stay. The pool and large garden/play area were a huge hit with the children - likewise the sun-trap pool area was great for the adults!
The Studio was well equipped and had all we needed for the week - and the family upstairs were really great neighbours!
Thursday night in St Agnan is a must (apparently during the summer holidays only). For a family of four we'd recommend booking the upstairs gite for more room and even better equipped - however as it wasn't available we booked the studio and still had a great holiday.
Well located for exploring the Dordogne, we particularly enjoyed a day of canoeing from Vitrac.
Delighted to see that these guests enjoyed their week and had a super holiday. They are absolutely correct in saying that although there are facilities for a small family, it is more ideally suited to couples or families with very young children.
On arrival Sheila came out to meet us and gave us a guided tour of Les Tachats our home for 14 days. Not only was it spotlessly clean and well stocked there was also a fantastic welcome pack from our hosts. The pool was abused due to the fantastic weather as were the multiple sunbeds. The property is close enough to the local bars and restaurants to enable us to also take advantage of the low Euro and fill up every night. All in all this was one of the best, most relaxing holidays that we have ever had. I very highly recommend a stay here if these are also your requirements. Many thanks Kevin and Sheila

Les Tachats is approximately 2 hours from the Atlantic coast, with it's beaches and rolling waves, however we are close to several large lakes which have clean sandy beaches, safe swimming areas with sailing, boating and canoeing facilities.
We are situated 35 km North East of Perigueux, between Limoges and Bergerac airports, both approx 1hr 15mins drive. The channel ports are approx 8 hrs away by car. To enable our guests to make the most of their stay we would recommend the use of a car, however as the village is within walking distance (approx 1 km) and the supermarket 5 mins walk away it is possible to have a very relaxed stay without a car. Airport pick-ups can be arranged for a fee if required.
We are a 5 minute walk from the village supermarket, 10 minutes walk from St Agnan village with bar, bakery, bank/ATM and health centre. We are a 20 minute walk from Hautefort village with pharmacy, 2 restaurants, bakery, butcher, etc. Within reasonable driving distance, one can find Sarlat a wonderful medieval city, Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, attractions such as Lascaux famed for its cave paintings, aqua parks, a dinosaur park, theme parks and much, much more.
Our village is dominated by one of the premier chateau of the area, and is surrounded by a beautiful 40 hectare park and renowned formal garden. Hautefort is also home to a museum of medicine, as well as some highly recommended restaurants. The sister village of St Agnan is also a picturesque village and stages a number of fetes and night markets during the summer season. Within the surrounding area there are many attractions such as canoeing, quad biking, horse riding and fishing for the active visitor. The area is noted for its cuisine, notably duck and foie gras, cepe mushrooms and truffles, and the wines such as Bergerac and Monbazillac. Good walking country and lakes with inland beaches make the Dordogne an appealing family destination.
