About John Elmer
Barbara and John Elmer prior to retirement John owned & ran a busy hardware store while Barbara owned & ran a successful holiday cottage business based mainly in Yorkshire. we both enjoyed meeting people.
John Elmer purchased this Villa in 1980
Why John Elmer chose Bagni di Lucca
We were very busy people and constantly in the public eye,who loved Italy and the Italians, already having friends in Pallanza., because of this we wanted our own piece of this beautiful Country. When we first saw this place it was a ruin with no acsess completely overgrown with trees and Brambles but we had the splendid view and the most wonderful feeling that it was right for us. After years of hard work we still have that feeling and love the house with all our hearts.
What makes this Villa unique
The cottage is quite a surprise when you drive or walk up the lane and see the sparkling pool with the building beyond nestling amongst the trees and gaze at the magnificent wooded slopes and the Carrara Mountains in the background where The Romans obtained their Marble and the Italians still do. The peace is all consuming and you quickly learn to relax

Stay in Bagni
Very interesting location, Grounds vey good, bedrooms very nice, difficulties with cobwebs, dead flies and flies generally and the comfort in the living room. Wifi very off/on.
Overall an enjoyable stay in good location.
A wonderful week in Villa Joba
We really enjoyed our week in Bagni di Lucca. The house is a good home to stay in during the summer, all basics are their to enjoy yourself . A large garden with pool and a magnificent view on the Tuscany mountains. Also in the surrounding are many things to undertake. We went to to the river Lima several timers to swim. We went to Pisa and Lucca which are not far driving. In the town Bagni di Lucca are several places to have dinner.
We had some troubles with the pool , but the communication about it was good and we were compensated.
We will definitely come back her some time
greetings Marcus, Marleen and kids
Lovely, well equipped villa. Perfect base for a family holiday
We have just returned from a fantastic 10 night stay at Villa Joba.
Its a great villa with everything you need on a family holiday (our kids are 14 and 10)
We enjoyed several days around the pool enjoying the 30+ degree sun, and on other days drove to Pisa, Siena, Lucca and Cinque Terre.
The 4x4 car provided by the owners is a must, and the boys in the family certainly loved this experience of taking us up and down to the villa in our very own Time Trial !! :) (safely conscious at all time obviously!)
The house is comfortable with quality linen and towels. The dishwasher and washing machine were welcome, and the big BBQ meant we enjoyed many evenings eating on the patio
The climate was interesting as very hot in the day, and yet cool enough to sleep in the evenings - must be those beautiful mountains !
Would highly recommend this villa as a place to stay.
Very quiet & quaint, a perfect retreat to switch off from the world.
Guest need to be clear that arrival via the main road from Lecca is the best & only route to be taken.....all other routes as we found out are a pain. Also the access to the cottage using a second vehicle ..... I had no problems at all (in fact love the buzz) however my wife and many other older & younger will have a major issue with this i am very sure.Other wise we had a great, restful & fun time. Kitchen a little dated(but it is a cottage) however bedrooms & bathroom were very clean ,modern & a delight.....Patio & pool were also equally clean & fun areas to use.
Perfect!
We have just returned from a very hot, weeks stay, at Villa Joba. What an amazing place to base yourself! The villa with it's lovely pool, allowed us to avoid the midday sun in the most pleasant way. It is in an area of the mountains with beautiful views and just the right amount of seclusion from the nearest villages. The local area is stunning, with a gorgeous river in the valley, and many small towns to explore. We watched the eagles, spotted some deer, and narrowly avoided two porcupines, whilst returning from the local restaurant. We had a hire car, and visited Lucca, Pisa, and Florence on different day trips, with no difficulty. Highly recommend the villa, and would love to go again.
Many thanks for your wonderful review, we really appreciate it.
A magical place to stay
This was our fourth time at Villa Joba - it just gets better. The swimming pool and extension have made a big difference but without detracting from the beauty and tranquility of the place. We had intended to revisit Lucca and Pisa which are only a train ride away, but the weather was very warm so we stayed put and soaked up the peace and tranquility, sitting looking out on to the fantastic views of the valley and marble mountains beyond - and making good use of the pool!
The villa is extremely well equipped, both inside and out, and you will want for nothing. The barbecue provided is excellent for cooking the local produce from Bagni di Lucca which is a lovely small and friendly town with good food shops, cafes and bars.
So if you want a truly magical place to stay then Villa Joba provides that and much more - a little bit of heaven on earth. But if you also want a base to visit the historic towns and cities, they are all easily accessible from here. We can't wait to go again.
Highly recommended.

The Spa offers a variety of treatments at reasonable prices to help you relax and unwind. There is a very popular tennis club & large outdoor swimming pool. There are many local restaurants - not surprising in an area famed for it's gastronomy. The most popular with our guests has always been the Antico café Del Sonno which offers a very good choice of classic Italian and regional dishes. This is located in Bagni di Lucca. The bar and pizzeria 'I Folletti' is on the main road into Bagni di Lucca and offers a huge selection of pizzas and foccacias. The restaurant of Villa Aurora is located on the road to Casabasciana, in a rural location, they offer a large range of home made Italian dishes and during the summer you can eat outside on the terrace. One restaurant in town rated by Michelin is the Corona where it is possible to enjoy top quality cuisine served in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the river.
