About Richard Croft
Chartered Mechanical Engineer specialising in 'Lean Production', as a family we are outdoor enthusiasts, our interests include mountaineering, mountain biking, and we have a small sailing boat on Coniston. Langdale is our ideal location. Our home is 100 miles away in East Cheshire. As a "Lean Manufacturer" it is sad to see the website is getting more complicated rather than "simpler!" A global trend not just limited to OD.
Richard Croft purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Richard Croft chose Ambleside
Chapel Stile is the perfect village location with stunning mountain scenery. Walks for children and easy low level valley rides start from the door. Serious mountaineering is found at the head of the valley and epic extreme mountain bike routes extend across the local craggy woodland.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is open plan downstairs which makes for great family living, BT Infinity super fast broadband wifi! ,easy access via an outside south facing patio to relax on. Good storage for bikes and gear. There is free Membership to the exclusive Langdale Hotel and Country Club at the gateway to the village with full Spa and Leisure facilities including a children's school holiday entertainment programme.
Pool / Spa
Needs updating & general maintenance as looks tired and damp near roof in bedroom. Mouldy pillow! Many glasses and crockery chipped. Only 2 bowls. Great location but needs some attention.
Location, location, location!
A lovely cottage, in a fantastic location and lovely views from the upstairs bedroom! Ann's is a welcoming, cosy cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Richard was most helpful with information about the cottage and the booking process was hassle free. We loved being able to go for walks straight from the cottage and the village store and pub are just minutes away. Also, the use of Langdale leisure facilities was a real bonus. We are biased, as Langdale is our favourite location in the Lakes, but I would highly recommend the cottage and we look forward to a return visit in the near future.
Many thanks for your kind words. The new Spa facilities at the Langdale Club have impressed us all.
Very good comfortable cottage. Just right for 2 of us. Perhaps the external patio could be upgraded
Located in a tranquil hamlet in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Village shop and traditional inn serving good bar meals located 5 minutes walk away. The membership to the leisure club was a real bonus given the bad weather during our stay.
Currently at the cottage doing some patio maintenance, garden, painting tidying! Ready for the Sumer season. Thanks for the review of Chapel Stile and the Langdale Club, both manically places.
Cosy and Convenient
Just back from a lovely pre Christmas break to Chapel Stile. This cottage is perfectly situated with gorgeous open views from the kitchen/living room. A real log fire got the place so cosy. The wonderful Brambles convenience store a 2 minute walk for local delights and even the odd fry up when feeling lazy. Two fantastic pubs in the village with friendly locals and holiday makers alike. Even with the rainy week we had it was possible to get out over the fells to Ambleside and Little Langdale. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Very cute, small cottage in a charming, tiny village with great walks from the front door. The cottage is well set up though there are no extras like a little tea and coffee for when you arrive. Also no towels at all are provided which is an irritating feature if you are coming from overseas! We forgot to get some en route, but were able to buy some for a price from the Co-op in the village.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the proximity to Coniston made it inviting to hike up Old Man Coniston and even do a little boating. Needless to say four days of perfect weather made it easy to enjoy our visit.
A Great Escape
We have recently booked our third visit to this little cottage. Despite having never before returned to exactly the same spot, this cottage really works well for us. In a beautiful location, with access to all the lakes has to offer, we can walk, run or cycle direct from the front door. The real bonus with this cottage, however, is the access provided to the Langdale Country Club and it's swimming pool and spa. On wet days (and you have to expect some of these in the Lakes), this little extra really weatherproofing the holiday.
The Langdale Country Club is half a mile away for inclusive use of the pool which is open daily (except from 4pm to 6pm and 8am to 9am for Children). The local mountain river is within easy walking distance with a picnic area. Grasmere, Lake Windermere and Coniston are each within 20 mins drive.
Manchester Airport is 100 miles away and 1 hour 45 minutes by car, or direct rail to Windermere then a 20 minute taxi drive from the station. West Coast Virgin rail Pendelino Service to "Oxenholme Lake District" then 45 minutes by taxi or connections to Windemere as above. Local Bus has a 15 minute link to Ambleside the nearest market town.
Ambleside 4 Miles. Langdale Pikes and access to ScaFell Pike via The Old Dungeon Ghyll is 3 miles. Grasmere 4 miles for Wordsworths Cottage. Sailing on Windermere and Coniston or Steam Boat Trips are 8 miles. Grizedale Forest is an easy drive for Mountain Bikes, Orienteering and the popular "Go Ape".
A local co-op village store provides all the essentials and is a 2 minute walk. Adventure and watersport activities are available from Ambleside, Windermere and Coniston. Wordsworth's Cottage at Grasmere is "over the fell".
