Our bright, modern and comfortable apartment is perfect for a couple, and has secure private parking within gated grounds. Located within a recently totally refurbished old villa. The apartment has an open plan living room, kitchen, with sliding door access to the bedroom. French doors lead from the living room and the bedroom out to a spacious sunny south facing balcony. The balcony is private and overlooks an old villa, perfect for having breakfast, relaxing, sunbathing or alfresco dining. The living room is stylish and comfortable, and very well equipped, with satellite TV, the English freeview channels, a DVD player, and an Ipod dock. A large and varied collection of DVDs is available, should you like to relax in the evening with a movie or two. Free Wi-Fi is available. The modern, fully equipped kitchen runs along one wall, and is perfect for those keen to try out their cooking skills in Italian cuisine, using local fresh ingredients. The spotlessly clean bathroom is spacious and bright with walk-in shower, bidet, toilet, etc.

From the apartment a short, 2 minute stroll down a cobbled lane will take you to the Lake side and a Greenway walk to Lenno village.

This is one of the most charming, stunning and historic places in Northern Italy. This area was part of a Grand Tour undertaken by the aristocratic English and poets such as Byron, Shelley and Wordsworth. Rated as one of the 10 most beautiful Lakes in the world.

Lenno is a select, charming village, and reputed to be one of the sunniest locations on the Lake. It even produces its own local olive oil. It's not commercialised or touristy and retains is local Italian character, with a historic village piazza and medieval church. The lake front at Lenno is a gem, it has charming promenade, stately villas, a quaint village square, and selection of restaurants, cafes, bars - and of course the most spectacular picture postcard views.

Lenno is unique in having this beautiful little promenade, and four or five cafes, restaurants and an Ice cream parlour, its so convenient and perfect for strolling on a summer's evening or that cappuccino first thing in the morning. The promenade leads to a sunny Lido area for swimming and sunbathing and a quaint 1920s style Ferry terminal from with you can travel the various villages around the Lake. Lenno has excellent amenities including a medium sized, well stocked supermarket, close to the apartment. A Bike hire shop, should you wish to give the car a holiday. Many of the local cafes and bars offer free wifi, and there are several well recommended restaurants within walking distance of the apartment.

Lenno has a weekly Tuesday morning market, conveniently located along the promenade, selling local produce, fish, hams, meat, cheeses, fruit and vegetables, clothes and other goods. An interesting way to spend a morning and sample the real Italy.

Exploring Lake Como by ferry couldn’t be easier from Lenno's own little ferry terminal, simply buy a 'Centre of the Lake' Day ticket, this is very economical, allowing convenient travel around the many attractive lakeside villages such as Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio.

Within walking distance of the apartment are the famous gardens of the Villa Balbianello, featured in an early Starwars and recent James Bond movies. Down the road a few miles from Lenno can also be found the stunning Villa Carlotta a stately home with famous sub-tropical gardens.

To ensure that you will have a trouble free stay in our apartment, when you arrive, you will be met by a friend who lives nearby. You will be given the apartment keys, remote control for the front gate, and shown how everything in the apartment works, as these may be a little different to the UK - access, electronic gates, parking, electricity/gas, heating, using the cooker, washing machine, etc and you will be given a contact number should you have any questions. We hope this extra service is helpful and will make your holiday enjoyable. We also have a information file in the apartment for guests, providing local information, details of ferry and bus timetables, favourite local sights, day trips, details of restaurants and cafes, etc.

The apartment is in a recently refurbished villa on the first floor, with lift if required and is very accessible. It is an easy walk to the village and Lake side from the apartment.

For those hiring a car, the apartment has its own private, secure car parking space at the front of the villa located inside electronic gates, a remote control is provided.

For guests we provide free broadband wifi access, we will provide network and password details before arrival. The Il Golfo cafe on the Lenno promenade, also has excellent, free wifi.

Towels and bed linen are all included. If staying for 2 weeks extra towels and bed linen will be provided. The property is thoroughly cleaned and inspected between each guest's stay.

With careful planning you can travel to the apartment from Milan's airports using local public transport, making car hire an advantage but not absolutely essential. Public transport using bus, rail and ferry connections are very good in the Lake Como area.

Lugano in Switzerland is only an hour and a quarter away by car from the apartment, or an hour by local bus from Menaggio.

About Rhoda Robb

We are Rhoda and Fred, a recently, early retired, professional couple. We both worked in Education. We have travelled a lot in Europe. We fell completely in love with Italy about 8 years ago, particularly the area around Lake Como. It is historic, full of character, very beautiful, very varied and with stunning, spectacular views. When an opportunity arose to buy an apartment in Lenno,close to the lake shore, we jumped at it. What appealed to us most, besides the sheer beauty of the whole area, was the history and character of Lake Como. There is such a variety of things to do, Lake activities from swimming to sailing, walks along the Greenway on the lakeside, or in the hills - or mountains, exploring gardens, historic villas or the many charming villages along the lake shore.

In summer there is a progmamme of very varied events around the Lake from the grand villas that host classical music evenings to the local villages that provide Craft Fairs. Fireworks displays are a favourite Italian pastime. And of course there's always excellent cuisine and wine Above all a quality of life where you are able to take things at an Italian pace, Lake Como still takes a two and a half hour lunch break!

We bought our property about 10 years ago.

We choose Lenno in particular because it has genuine Italian character, excellent amenities and it is not touristy.

Lenno has an unique character and location. It has it's own little bay, promenade, supermarket and piazza with a handful of excellent coffee bars and restaurants. The best ice cream parlour in the area is found here. There is a stylish lido, places to chill with an aperitif or dine in the evening. Nearby a local shingle beach. Unlike many of the other villlages it has it's own little ferry port which makes it so easy to travel up and down the lake exploring other villages close by and on the other side of the lake. Taking the ferry is a lovely way to visit the town of Como, do a bit of shopping, and try to spot George Clooney's villa on route

What makes this apartment unique

Lenno is within walking distance of many beautiful villas, found along the road to Menaggio, at the centre of the Lake. A 'walkers ' path known as the 'Greenway' is ideal for exploring, its well sign posted along a 6 kilometre route. Pass the famous and beautiful gardens of the 'Villa Balbianello' which featured in the James Bond film 'Casino Royale', only a 15 minute walk from the apartment. Here the Lavedo peninsula offers stunning views of Lake Como. The famous gardens of the 'Villa Carlotta', many people come specially to see this are only a 30 minute walk away.

And a short walking distance from Lenno, the 'Greenway' leads on to the gentle slopes of the surrounding mountains providing spectacular views down into the lake below. From here you can follow old cobbled laneways through historic villages which will eventually lead down to the centre of the Lake and into the town of Menaggio

In summer we use the bright sunny south facing balcony as additional room for alfresco dining, relaxing and reading. The apartment is in an easily accessible location within walking distance of village amenities, not on a steep slope and only 2 minutes walk from the lake. Outside: For those hiring a car, the apartment has its own private car parking space at the front of the villa located inside electronic gates. An added feature of the apartment is the extensive south facing and private sunny balcony, with attractive patio furniture and sun lounger, offering not only additional al fresco living space but the ideal location to start the day with a Prosecco – the typical tipple of the region! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are all included. If staying for more than 1 week extra towels and bed linen will be provided for the next week. The property is thoroughly cleaned and inspected between each guest's stay. Other: The sunny balcony can be used as an extra room and is perfect for al fresco dining, quiet reading or simply sitting in sun and sipping a prosecco.

Lovely apartment in a great location

We found the apartment just as described.It is very well equiped and has everything needed for a comfortable stay.The location is perfect for getting the most out of the seeing the best of lake Como.With an easy stroll to Lenno centre and access to the ferry terminal all the sightseeing is on your doorstep.The Greenway also provides lovely walks right next to the apartment.All communication with the owners was perfect as were directions to find the apartment.We cannot recommend it more highly and will plan to return again.

Comfortable and cozy apartment

Apartment was a gem of a find. Although not large it suited the two of us perfectly and felt spacious. It has a bright and breezy feel and has been tastefully appointed to give a contemporary feel.

The location of the apartment is ideal for a 10 minute walk into Lenno centre and the lakeside: there is also a decent sized supermarket within 200m. We didn't bother using our hire car the time we were there as all areas of interest were within easy walking distance or we got on the regular service boats that criss-cross the lake to other towns of interest such as Bellagio and Verena.

There is a small balcony with container plants which was lovely to eat out on and has nice views on either side. The only slight negative is it faces directly on to the back wall of the house next door - not the most attractive wall in the world but at least it wasn't close to the balcony and there were no windows overlooking the balcony, so privacy is maintained.

Rhoda, the owner, was very friendly, helpful and quick in communications both before and during our stay. All in all it was a great stay - a homely vibe which leaves you with a feeling of wanting to return again.

A very comfortable, everything you could need, apartment! Home from home. Just as described.

The little balcony is ideal for enjoying breakfast or relaxing after breakfast with your book or at any other time of day. If you are sheltering from a passing thunderstorm then you have books, DVD's, magazines to enjoy while the storm passes then you can head out for the day to enjoy this beautiful area. Lenno is a lovely part of the lake. Busy enough to be in a bit of a "buzz" and also quiet enough not to be jostling crowds. Very nice friendly restaurants by the lake, too.

The apartment is a good location. Two minutes from the supermarket and the bus stop which we used a lot, as the public transport is excellent. (as are the ferries!).

Ideal Location to explore Lake Como

We enjoyed a lovely week at this apartment in July. It is ideally placed to explore the Lake, within walking distance of a ferry station. There is a pleasant walk away from the main roads to local restaurants and if you don't feel like walking further you can catch the land train to some of the other resorts along the lakeside. We managed to find a couple of places to swim in the lake too which was an added bonus. The apartment itself is lovely, airy and modern with a little balcony to sit and eat or soak up the sun with a glass of wine in hand! We found everything we needed was supplied and Rosalina was at the end of a phone if we needed any help with anything. We drove to the apartment from Lake Garda and the directions given to us by Rhoda were spot on. We would definitely recommend the apartment to friends and family and would love to return again ourselves one day.

Perfectly Situated Apartment

We have stayed in this lovely apartment many times - and we're quite likely to stay many more times. Lenno is the perfect place to explore Lake Como, situated in the central area with frequent ferries to all the places you would want to visit on holiday.

The apartment itself is most importantly clean and well-equipped with a modern, calm feel. It is a 10 minute stroll to all Lenno has to offer - lakefront cafes, the Lido, the taxi boat to Balbianello (or a 20-30 minute walk to the back gate). It has secure parking and access down the lane to a little area from which you can swim in the lake.

It is worth staying local to visit the weekly market in Lenno on a Tuesday - I would recommend a visit to the rotisserie van; and a detour to the new patisserie near the campsite to pick up dessert - lunch sorted! For more everyday groceries, there is a reasonable sized supermarket just a couple of minutes walk from the apartment.

This year we stayed for 2 weeks and to make the most of the lake we bought a 7-day ferry pass - good value at €45 - this allowed us to visit our favourite spot,Varenna, the fabulous Bellagio, and the more laid back Menaggio. There is also a stop at Villa Carlotta - one we haven't visited yet.

I would also recommend taking the slow boat back down to Como town for the day. This offers great views of the villages and villas around the lake. Then jump on the bus home (stops practically outside the apartment), giving you time to enjoy a lovely lunch, explore the old town and a little bit of retail therapy.

To sum up, do not hesitate to book this charming apartment and explore this beautiful part of Italy.

Lovely, comfortable apartment

We really relaxed and enjoyed our stay in this comfortable apartment. Balcony doors at your bedroom and living area make it ideal to enjoy the sunny weather. You can walk easily to the lake nearby, bus and to the nearby village. We actually went back for another period of time after staying in a disappointing apartment in a different village. Highly recommended.

Coast/Beach:

Our apartment is situated a couple of minutes walk from the lakeside, where there's a very small secluded shingle beach for swimming. Or if you prefer, with a 10 minute easy walk you can reach a charming little park at Ossucio where you can relax, sunbathe or swim. There's an excellent, inexpensive cafe there with free wifi also selling drinks, snacks, lunch and of course ice cream. Alternatively a 10 walk will take to the Lido at Lenno where you can sunbathe, swim or have a drink at the bar. From the apartment it is also a very easy 10 minute walk to Lenno's charming village square, which is right on the Lake. Lenno has its own beautiful little promenade on the Lakeside, lovely for a morning stroll, that early cappucino or Prosecco or light lunch in one of the cafes there overlooking the lake. A view to take your breath away.

For the energetic boat hire is available a 5 minute walk away, exploring the Lake by boat is ideal for sightseeing, and many of the most beautiful historic villas are best seen from the Lake. Water sking or even a spot of fishing are avaiable. Walking is also a favourite activity in the Lenno area, from a gentle stroll along the lakeside Greenway to easy walking in the surrounding mountains. Lenno is situated on a small bay, and its villas, views and location are gorgeous, perfect for that evening walk - the passagiatta. In fact Lenno promenade offers the most breath taking panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Stunning.

Travel:

Nearest airports, 1 hour 15 minutes to Milan Malpensa or Linate airports, or 1 hour and 45 mins to Bergamo by car. But car hire is not absolutely essential, provided arrival and departure times are planned, eg landing by lunch time and departing mid afternoon would work. There are shuttle buses from all the airports to Milan Central Railway station and rail connections on to Como city, and the apartment can be reached by public transport as is on the bus and ferry routes on the lake. There is a regular ferry or bus service from Como.

Our apartment’s location provides ample opportunity to explore all parts of the lake and mountains. Bellagio, the jewel in the crown of the entire Lake area where you can shop for designer wear, silk, art or leather is only a short ferry journey away. Como, with all its pretty promenades, cathedrals, busy shops and market days is only 30 minutes away by scenic drive.

Further Details:

Close to the apartment is the little ferry stop at Lenno, here the ferry will zig-zag up and down the lake, stopping at towns and villages on the way. You can even take the ferry for a day’s shopping or sightseeing visit to Como. The local bus stops nearby, it circles the lake and so will drop you off at any of the villages along the way. If you want to explore by car the apartment has its own private secure parking facility within the gated garden area.

Lenno and nearby villages offer some of the best cuisine of the region including local lake fish and pasta dishes, of course!

After your evening meal enjoy a romantic stroll along the lake promenade in Lenno, right on the waters edge.

For garden lovers four of the most famous and beautiful are located very close-by, Villa Balbianello is only a 15 minute walk away, while Villa Carlotta is just 5 minutes down the road by car and the gardens of Villa Meltzi and Monastir are only 20 minutes away by ferry.

There is simply so much to see and do in the area, it is steeped in history and culture. Particularly throughout the summer when there are numerous events, concerts, exhibitions - and not forgetting the fireworks displays! Or if your interests stretch eg to hill walking, photography, cookery or painting these are readily available throughout the lake area. If shopping is a must then Como is 30 minutes away and for something entirely different, a 45 minute drive will take you to Lugano, in Switzerland via some of the most spectacular mountain scenery – but don’t forget your passport!
