Apartment in Tavira, Portugal - Perfect 'Old Town' Location, In The Heart Of Tavira

Superb 2 bedroom, 2nd and top floor apartment with front and rear balconies. Situated in Tavira Old Town it is only a 10 minute walk to the riverside heart of Tavira. To add to all this there is a wonderful large roof terrace (30 metres squared) with sea and old town views. The apartment sleeps 4/5 people, fully fitted modern kitchen, large spacious 25 metre squared lounge with air conditioning and free wifi.

Great time in Tavira

We had a really enjoyable time in Tavira. The property was easy to find and conveniently located just a short walk from the old town and supermarkets. We hired a car in order to be able to walk in the nearby countryside and appreciated being able to park right outside the apartment. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed to cook a few meals, and a short walk to nearby restaurants when we wanted to eat out. We particularly liked being able to sit out on a choice of verandahs and the roof. Just what we needed for a relaxing week's holiday.

Really nice large apartment in good location in Tavira

The apartment is quite spacious; two large bedrooms, one bathroom, good sized kitchen and large sitting room/dining room. There are balconies on both sides of the apartment so you can sit outside the kitchen, the bedroom or the sitting room to eat/drink. There is also a lovely spacious private solarium which is accessed by going up one floor. Great place to sunbathe or barbeque or even dry your washing!!

The location is about 10 minutes walk from the centre which will take you down through the old historic area of Tavira. There are lovely sites to see in the old town and the restaurants and coffee shops are very good and are quiet inexpensive. Do try O Castelo and A Ver Tavira, both are on Rue de Liberdade. For coffee and cake you have to go to Pastelaria Veneza!!

The best place to shop near to the apartment is Lidl as it will provide you with all the basics. However, the best supermarket in Tavira is, in my opinion, the Continente in the Shopping Centre. It would take you about 25/30 mins to walk there but there are taxi services outside to take you home.

The local train station is beside Lidl and, although the trains are very old, they are frequent and they go all along the Algarve. There is also a bus station as well.

There is no beach in the town itself so you have to get a Ferry out. Barril beach is highly recommended.

This was out first time to this apartment and to Tavira and we loved all of it. Cara was very helpful to us in every way. I would highly recommend the apartment and Tavira overall.

Lovely top floor apartment 10 mintues walk to centre of Tavira, Eastern Algarve.

We booked a long term Winter stay at Cara's apartment and she was happy to provide us with any piece of advice or information that we required.

On arrival at the apartment we were met by Maxine who lives locally and looks after the apartment. Maxine is extremely helpful and has plenty of local knowledge to offer. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

The apartment was finished to a very high standard. Two twin bedrooms which were large and had plenty of wardrobe space, one room led out onto a balcony. The bathroom with bath and shower had everything which was required, even down to a First Aid Kit. The lounge with dining table had plenty of space and this also led out to a balcony. The kitchen was well equipped, with everything you required, and this led out onto a balcony overlooking the gardens. There was a nice private roof terrace which overlooked part of Tavira and towards the Rio de Formosa. There are no high rise apartment blocks which added to the nice outlook.

Plenty of nice restaurants in the older part of Tavira over the river. A good fish restaurant is Restaurante Tres Palmeiras near the Continente, very reasonably priced, but quite often you need to book to get in there. Lidl supermarket is 5 minutes walk from the apartment, best supermarket in the area. If you want to buy fish I would suggest you go to the Pingo Doce, also just a walk away, very reasonably priced, although it is worth going to look at the Fish and Vegetable Market just for the experience, which is near to the river. The ruins of the castle are worth a visit as well. All of the above are within walking distance. If you want to get to Ilha de Tavira, then little ferries run quite frequently and especially during the summer months.

We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly be returning again in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at Caras apartment,the location being excellent within 15 minutes walk to centre of Tavira.The apartment had all the ameneties that you would require with an excellent roof terrace for sunbathing etc

Lovely apartment, good location

We're just back after a lovely few days in Tavira. The apartment was spotless and had everything you need. Maxine met us cheerfully even though we were very late arriving and told us her top tips of places to go. The town of Tavira is really lovely, with lots of lovely shops and restaurants and the ferry to the beach is really easy and fun. The local people are all really friendly and speak excellent English, which puts us to shame. The local supermarkets are only a short walk away, although you do have to cross a roundabout to get to the Pingu Doce, which isn't great when you're on foot. The tourist travel card on the train is really good value and you can get the train very easily. All in all - great, and wish we could have stayed longer.

There are several beaches local to Tavira. If you are not driving then Ilha de Tavira is your best bet. This is on an island half a kilometre from Tavira, reached by ferry for €1 (70p) return. From the centre of town the tourist train will take you to the ferry.

If you are driving then the local beaches at Cabanas, Monta Rota, Praia Verde and Santa Luzia are all amazing and well worth a visit.


Faro Airport is 20 minutes drive away and is within easy access to Faro train station, approximately €3 (£2.10) in a taxi. There is a taxi rank and in addition private pick ups can be arranged upon request.

The apartment has easy access to the A22 and the N125, which are the main roads that connect to Faro, the West Algarve and Spain. The train station is a 10 minute walk from the apartment. The rail network provides access to Faro, the West Algarve and Spain.


Literally a 10 minute walk into Tavira centre which is a beautiful riverside waterfront with a superb selection of shops and restaurants. The walk is a pleasurable one involving a short stroll through beautiful cobbled streets, passing fantastic, traditional Portuguese architecture, Tavira Castle and the churches of Santa Maria and Santiago. There are many riverside restaurants to choose from in the evening or indeed any time of the day!

Further Details:

To us, Tavira can only be described as ‘Stratford in the Sun’. It is a beautiful and stunning Portuguese town that commands waterfront residence on the picturesque River Gilao. The Tavira riverside location is the heart of Tavira and holds a wonderful selection of shops and restaurants. It has been cleverly designed and considered so that the modern entwines in perfect balance with the old, so not detracting from Tavira’s beauty.

Local services/amenities - supermarkets, Tavira has a number of supermarkets, the nearest one is a 10 minute walk and the nearest local store is a 2 minute stroll.

Train Station is 1 km/ 10 minute walk.

Tavira has a bus station, tourist information office, wonderful fresh fish market, banks, post office, internet cafés and a plentiful choice of shops and restaurants.
