Villa Pachobel provides a high standard of accommodation in a beautiful setting with a private terrace and pool. It is situated in Viganj near Orebic on the Peljesac Peninsula, an area of outstanding beauty famous for its vineyards and some of the best beaches in Croatia. The villa has recently been sympathetically renovated and refurbished to a very high standard, and many of the original features are still in existence – including the old olive press situated on the terrace! As well as catering for those who just want to sit in the sun there are plenty of things to do for the more energetic. Excellent windsurfing and diving are on your doorstep, or you can hire a bike and explore the coast. The region is known for its wine and there is plenty of opportunity to do wine tours, those with enough energy can climb mount Ilia which the villa backs onto - a stunning walk with incredible views from the top.

Hi, I'm Bruce and I moved to Croatia in 2004 to renovate these two villas from stone ruins to the properties they are today. I spent 3 very eventful years living in Viganj with some very good and also hard times! Although unfortunately I've had to rejoin the rat race I love going back and catching up with friends and seeing how the area is slowly changing while still retaining its wonderful character and beautiful nature. I now live in London with my girlfriend and young children and love travelling back for our family holidays and making the most of everything Croatia has to offer!
Bruce purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Bruce chose Viganj
I travelled extensively in Croatia looking for the best combination of climate, activities and peaceful beauty. Old stone houses are very difficult to buy and I was very lucky to buy this in a unique position, private but close to the sea and amenities. Viganj has its own micro climate sheltered by Mt Ilia which my Villa backs on to, and the coastline is lovely as Croatia very wisely limited ugly development next to the sea preserving the character and beauty of the country.
What makes this Villa unique
Many locals tell me I have the best position which is both private but close to the sea along with stunning views across the Adriatic. The property is over 300 years old so combines great character with modern convenience to give a unique experience for guests - many who return!

Lovely rustic villa in a stunning location
Our first visit to Croatia but it won't be our last. We had a wonderful stay in this character villa. It was off the beaten track with amazing views and was very peaceful and only a few minutes drive down to the sea at Viganj with a mini market and places to eat and drink. The pool was a blessing and was well maintained. The villa had all that we needed and was lovely and clean. If you have mobility issues you may find the access to and from the property a bit of a problem as there are quite a few steps. The owner was very helpful and the booking process was straight forward. Our only regret was having to leave. Thank you Bruce for a great stay.
Lovely relaxing villa with breathtaking view
We had a fabulous week at Villa Pachobel. We were looking for somewhere we could just chill out and read, eat, swim and gaze out at a lovely view and that's exactly what we did. We had a few trips out in the car, following the Bruce's recommendations in the very useful information pack. Lovely day out to Korchula and to the beach on the other side of the peninsula. But most of the time we either stayed in the villa or wandered down to the local town (be prepared for a steep climb back up if you walk down). The villa itself is cool and well equipped and the view is spectacular. It was our first time in Croatia, but definitely won't be our last!
Stunning location, tastefully decorated with rustic charm
Villa Pachobel is situated in an enviable position above the small town of Viganj, with open unobstructed views over the Adriatic to the island of Korčula.
The house has been tastefully restored and made a comfortable base for exploring the beautiful Pelješac peninsula. It is well-equipped and benefits from its own private pool.
The owner, Bruce, and his local contact Sandra, are friendly, accessible and helpful, and I would be confident that they would be able to sort out any difficulties which could arise.
Viganj town itself, a 10 minute or so walk down the hill, was a superb place for an evening meal, to hire kayaks, boats, windsurfing equipment, and is only a short drive from the larger town of Orebić, from where there is a regular ferry over to Korčula. It really was a special place to visit and I would definitely go back again.
Thanks for your lovely review and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Viganj. I hope we will be able to welcome you back sometime in the future and thanks for staying with us this year!
Best Regards, Bruce
Great, if scorchingly hot, trip to Croatia
We had a lovely two weeks in Viganj. The villa was spacious, clean, well equipped and overall everything worked to plan. Any problems were dealt with by Sandra or Bruce. We spent alot of time at the villa, around the pool because it was so hot. Had the weather permitted we would have walked more frequently to the local beach which was good for swimming. The pool was very well maintained and was essential for cooling off dip. We visited Korcula - worth a trip; the fishing village at the 'end' of the peninsula - lovely atmostphere, good restaurant; and the amazing beaches beyond Trpanj (although avoid the town itself). It was a shame that Ivan's restaurant is no longer open as that would have made our trip! (oh and a minor minor gripe - slightly more padding for the sun loungers would have been welcome). But a truly lovely holiday in an amazing location.
The villa has amazing views and is very peaceful. The large house is extremely comfortable and was spotless, the kitchen is very well equipped, more plates than you need, 5 sharp kitchen knives and even a bread one. The main wet room has more towel hooks than one needs! The house and the garden are scattered with decorative pots, jugs and bowls. Loads of books to borrow and a Scrabble game. The local contact is extremely helpful and responded to my texts within minutes. The local supermarket is less than 5 mn by car. It was a 10 mn walk down the hill to the restaurants but more like 20 mn back as the hill is quite steep at times! As it is a track, there is no lighting until you reach the main road but we borrowed the owner's torches. A great opportunity to spot shooting stars. The owner also send us an information pack with all the local restaurants listed which was extremely useful and accurate. Fantastic holiday!
Thank you so much for your review and I'm so glad you appreciated the things which make us different from other Villas and the charm of an old stone house which I renovated myself! Thanks for visiting us and Croatia and I hope your plans to visit the north of the country next year work out well!
Best Wishes Bruce
The beach is about 15 minutes walk downhill. Most beaches in Croatia are pebble although there is a sandy beach in Orebic nearby. The water is very clean and safe due to gentle tides and waves and our 4 year old happily jumps of the piers into the sea (with spiderman armbands of course!).
Dubrovnik is approx 2 hours scenic drive along the coast, Split is about 3 hours. Car hire is recommended as you can tour the area which is beautiful. Past guests have managed without a car and seemed perfectly happy but it is recommended if you like to explore .
The nearest restaurants are a 15 minute walk to the sea front at Viganj and provide a variety of fresh food especially fish and seafood. Orebic is 7km away where you will find banks etc., Korcula Town is 20 mins on the ferry. Viganj has bars, restaurants, and a supermarket as well as stalls selling seasonal produce.
There are diving centres, windsurfing/kitesurfing schools, canoe hire etc. all within a 15 mins walk. The area is renowned for its watersports and hosts international competitions for windsurfing. The currency is the Kuna some larger restaurants may take euros or cards. Card payment is becoming commonplace and is accepted in all shops and only small restaurants and bars need cash. Small purchases such as coffees etc. should be in cash
