About Gillie Elliot
My husband's family are well known sheep breeders here and in the Borders and have farmed in this area since 1906. David and Gillie and their family have been coming up to Durness for 40 years. Rhigolter is a working farm with 1100 sheep. Carbreck was always a shepherd's cottage on the farm. The father of several of the families in Durness was the last shepherd to live in the cottage with his wife and children. We bought this cottage in 2006.

I enjoyed my stay in this cottage. It was perfect to relax in the evening with a book by the fireplace. And perfect to start walks to the surrounding mountains.
Even though the cottage is located just next to the street to Durness it was never noisy or disturbing.
Very friendly property manager. In the booking process I got almost instantly an answer on my messages from her. Thank you very much. Maybe my next visit to Scotland leads me back to Carbreck.
Very quiet cottage, excellent heating systems and fantastic views! Plenty of storage space and room, loved the log burner! Just a side note, you can run Clearview stoves to radiators around the house to warm more rooms cost efficiently! Thanks for the stay!
Delighted you had such a good week.
Yes the views are amazing and of course change each day with the different weather patterns.
You are quite right, Clearview stoves can run radiators. I must look into this as a more efficient heating system. Thank you.
Just as described .. in fact better than pictures
Everything was excellent.. the correspondence with Gillie who answered all my questions patiently ..
The house has every thing you need and more .. lots of books .. board games and suggestions on what to do in the area ..

Thank you for staying with us.
A really well appointed cottage in the most beautiful unspoilt location, we were extremely comfortable at Carbreck and we are already planning to be back next year.
So pleased you were all so comfortable. . Also its proximity to the river makes coming to and fro from fishing that much easier!
Delighted to welcome you again.
This is a great cottage, the location is remote, but easy to access. The views from the house are stunning, and the cottage itself is comfy and well equipped. We had a great time.

Glad you were able to make the most of your time there.
