Roquetas de Mar is located 30/40 minutes from Almeria airport (approx 45 euros by taxi). It's a popular resort set against a beautiful mountain backdrop, the sunniest area of southern Spain. The property is situated within a Moorish style very pretty complex with a water garden and shared pool. It has a private roof terrace with a shower which is not overlooked. It is fully double glazed with window shutters and fly screens. There are many restaurants selling typical Spanish food, tapas bars, shops, banks and beach close by. The beach is wide and long, never crowded and there is a beautiful 10 km promenade to walk. Many of the local hotels have evening entertainment and they welcome visitors. Granada and the Alhambra Palace are a straight forward 2 hour drive or you can visit with a local tour company. The beautiful Capo de Gata national park is 1 hour drive. However if you just wish to stay in the resort a car is not essential, everything you need is on your doorstep. Suitable for winter holidays usually nice sunny days, rarely rains.SORRY NO CHILDREN

About Sue Williams
We are Ray and Sue and live near Kings Lynn in Norfolk, we have just retired from running a busy pub. We go to our apartment as often as possible, at least 3 times a year. We regard it as our second home and the decor and facilities available within reflect this. During the years we have been visiting Roquetas we have made many friends in the local community. Many people who rent the apartment return again and again.

We bought this property after looking in other areas of Spain because the area maintains it's Spanish origins. Many of the restaurants sell wonderful local Spanish food and the tapas bars are probably the best.
What makes this Apartment unique
The best thing about the apartment is the location, not only is it situated in what is regarded locally as the best complex in the resort it is also the best apartment in the complex being on the end so benefiting from dual aspect windows and also overlooking the pool. It is also situated at the end of a no through road therefore being an exceptionally quiet location but still within a few minutes walk of the beach and all local amenities.

We had a terrific stay at Sue's apartment in June. It was very well equipped, had everything you could want and more. We never cooked apart from toast in the morning but all the utensils were there if you chose to. It is in an ideal location, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Roquetas but close enough to walk to all the many restaurants in the resort. The roof terrace is great for private sunbathing but the pool area was also fantastic and not too busy at the times we went, usually in the morning, but there were loads of sunbeds should these be required. The complex itself was very well maintained and there was always someone working to keep the place looking spick and span. We also liked the resort itself, plenty restaurants and lovely walks along the promenade. Can also recommend a visit to Almeria by local bus, the stop is just round the corner and only 2 euros. also California tapas restaurant very near the apartment, free tapas with every drink! and Chiringuito Nido Playa was also very good and used by lots of Spanish, down at the beach. In fact we never had a bad meal at all the restaurants we visited. Should have mentioned, Sue can arrange transfers for you which was most helpful. All in all can thoroughly recommend Sue's apartment and hope to go back some time. Thanks Sue
A PERFECT BASE FOR A HOLIDAY
We are a couple in our early 50s. The apartment is within a very picturesque complex with a nice shared pool. The rooms are all a good size with plenty of seating and table areas and the kitchenette is very well appointed with all you need to self-cater. The main bedroom has a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. We didn’t need the aircon but it is there for the hotter days. We made use of the private rooftop terrace to sunbathe and this was excellent. The location is great and there is a large selection of small local shops within 5 minutes walk or a supermarket just 10 minutes walk. The nearest bar is less than 5 minutes walk towards the beech, which itself is only 10 minutes further. There are plenty of Tapas bars to choose from as well as more traditional restaurants. All in all this is an excellent home from home to enjoy for your holiday and we would definitely return.
Had a lovely stay here. The apartment is in a quiet location about 10 mins from the beach. It is well equipped with everything you could need with plenty of space. Sue made the booking process easy and sent us all necessary information in plenty of time. The pool area was great, always plenty of space/beds etc. Bars, shops and restaurants very handy to the apartment. We were slightly out of season so the resort was very quiet in the evenings but all in all a very relaxing holiday.

The apartment is perfect in all respects. It is well equipped with all relevant large white goods but also with all the smaller items that make a holiday so much easier and stress-free (the true mark of a considerate host, I think). The apartment itself is well situated in a secure gated complex with the lovely pool just yards away. The beach is about a 10min walk away where there are miles and miles of sand and promenade!. The supermarket is walkable but in a car it is just 2 mins away.
The communications with the host were always efficient and prompt.

The apartment, gardens and pool area were very clean and lounge/second bedroom had lovely views overlooking pool. Locals were exceptionally friendly, especially when giving us free Tapas!! Lovely area - far enough away for peace and tranquillity but within walking distance of all amenities. Only downside was that the kids absolutely 'fried' in their bedroom at night-time, whereas we were lovely and cool with air-con. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back again!!!
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. The complex is exceptionally well maintained as you found. Since your visit we have had new windows fitted, they have mosquito screens and shutters so the windows can be left open without the fear of attack !! This should keep the 2nd bedroom cooler. This comfortable apartment is well equipped for a self catering holiday. However, we found some lovely tapas bars and restaurants so only used the toaster and kettle! The complex is secure and well kept with a large swimming pool. It is in walking distance of all amenities and there is a lovely (flat) 9k promenade alongside a sandy beach which goes to the port and beyond. There is also a good bus service and we went to Almeria a couple of times which we enjoyed very much. We visited the Alcazabar and discovered a great authentic tapas bar where we ate with the locals. A car isn't necessary if you just want a relaxing holiday with a bit of exercise thrown in. We're going back this year!
The beach is a 5 min walk, it stretches for miles and there are beach bars and play areas for small children (swings, climbing frames) on the beach every few hundred yards, it is never crowded. You can hire sunbeds and parasols. In summer months water rides and boats are available. There is also a lovely flat, clean promenade along the whole length.
The nearest airport is Almeria, Ryanair fly there from Stansted, Easyjet from Gatwick, Monach from Manchester & Birmingham. Approx. 30 mins drive to the apartment, cars can be hired at the airport, taxis about 50 euros, or bus to Almeria and change. Almeria Airport is small and taxis are plentiful directly outside. Malaga and Murcia airports about a 3 hour drive. In the resort you do not need a car everything is within easy walking distance. Private transfers usually available by arrangement.
Almeria City is interesting to visit and the old Alcazaba is free to enter. A bus there costs a few euros, there are lots of lovely shops. Granada 2 1/2 hours drive, a local tour operator does trips to Granada to the Alhambra Palace and other places of interest. Almeria airport is approx 40mins, Malaga, Murcia and Granada airports 2 - 3 hours.
In the resort there are many bars and restaurants, you can hire cycles, quad bikes and cars. On the beach sunbeds and parasols can be hired and every few hundred yards there is a childrens play area free to use. In the summer jet skis etc are available to hire.There is a land train and horse drawn carriage rides. A large modern shopping mall a short bus or taxi ride away with lots of lovely shops. The apartment has supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, interesting local shops all within a 5 min walk. There is a water park and an aquarium a short taxi ride away. For the bird watchers among you we are a few minutes from the natural park where the flamingos can be seen at certain times of the year and many other water birds.
