Casa Naomi is a farmhouse that we have restored whilst retaining its essentially Italian Marche character. With spacious accommodation that really does cater properly for up to 10 people, the property has a swimming pool and sun terrace set in 8 acres of farmland, including cherry, apple, fig, walnuts, almonds and olives, which can all be freely picked when in season. It nestles on the side of a small valley, just 1km from the historic village of Montefiore dell’Aso. The village provides all the facilities required by those on a quiet holiday. It has an excellent baker, take away pizza, restaurants, butchers and small supermarkets. You can join the locals in the cafes for a coffee of your choice, cold beer or a delicious ice cream! At the local cantina you can taste the wines on offer and fill up a 5 litre flagon with a wine for about £4-£5. You can then sit on the veranda or by the pool taking in the scenery and sipping your wine in peace. We also provide our own olive oil.

About Fiona Sloyan
I have lived abroad both as a child in the Far East and as a young adult in the Middle East and have travelled widely, but had never been to Italy despite my Italian ancestry on my mother's side. One hears tales of disasters that have happened to people buying property abroad and the stress of managing properties at a distance, but for us buying this house was a risk that we will never regret. It is where we escape and relax although not as often as we would like due to work. We decided that we should let the house out, both so that it did not stand empty and so that it could pay its way by at least covering maintenance costs. I have never met any guests, but love the exchange of numerous emails I have with some. I also enjoy the comments we get back.
Fiona Sloyan purchased this Farmhouse in 2003
Why Fiona Sloyan chose Montefiore dell'Aso
The house is named after my mother. When she died she left me a small amount of money that made the dream of owning a property abroad a possibility. We did not know where we would buy, but the region of Le Marche was one of the first areas we looked in, viewing 17 properties in 3 days! Although not intending to buy immediately we saw no reason to look elsewhere when Le Marche was so beautiful and we kept talking about this particular property. We loved the scenery, the lack of tourists, the gentle lifestyle, the food, the wine, the weather, the peace and the setting of this house. On one visit while it was being renovated and when I was by myself, I just sat and cried over my luck at owning a place that was so tranquil and beautiful. The summer of 2004 was the first time we stayed in it.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
What we like about the house is the peace. We just stop and relax. We still get great pleasure in the quality of the renovation completed by local builders in the traditional Le Marche style. How many people can boast a vaulted ceiling in their dining room and a beamed and brick ceiling in their sitting room! We enjoy making occasional trips out to the mountains and to neighbouring villages. We enjoy eating our own figs, our own almonds, our own walnuts. We enjoy using our own olive oil which I harvest myself. We enjoy going to the local cantina and filling up our 5 litre flagon with the wine of our choice for less than we would pay for a bottle of wine here. Having travelled a lot in my youth the joy for me is also things like developing a relationship with the people in the village.

An excellent property, superbly equipped and well prepared for our visit. Casa Naomi is beautiful .
Casa Naomi near to Montifiire dell Asso is a professionally restored typical Marche property. Montifiore is a beautiful hilltop town with stunning views and is easily accessed from Casa Naomi. The warm seas of the Adriatic coast are minutes away by car.
Excellent restaurants can be found locally and there is a good butcher, Baker, wine producers, supermarkets and fuel stations within the town.
Casa Naomi has a beautiful pool set next to the house in a stunning, peaceful, rural location.
Highly recommended, we have stayed twice in Casa Naomi.
Thank you, John, for your comments. I am so glad that you and your family enjoyed your second holiday at Casa Naomi and I look forward to welcoming you again for your third visit!
Casa Naomi 2017
Casa Naomi is a delight. Everything works and continued to work throughout our stay. What a delight to stay in such a beautifully restored, spacious, spotlessly clean and well maintained property. Quiet, yet not too far off the beaten track. The only disturbances were from a noisy set of residents with their choruses of bird song all day long. We saw a metre long reptile - snake or slow worm? No sign of the whoopoe but we heard a lot from him. Lizards abounded to the delight of our young charges. So tranquil. Our busy lives a distant memory.
Meals on the patio, all of them, were such relaxing occasions. The bread shop is one of the best. The butcher quite a wit and with such good meat. Such variety and such high quality. We loved the village and the friendliness of the locals. Barbecuing was a joy.
The local beaches are pristine, accessible, within easy reach of Casa Naomi, and the sea very warm. The house pool one of the best we have seen in our travels with a most efficient filter. We made maximum use of the pool, the boys had a great time and how their swimming confidence has improved. TV, iPad, not missed at all.
We did not feel the urge to travel much during our stay and I believe that is a sign of being content.
We, of three generations, highly rate this property and intend to return.
Thank you John for your comments. I am so glad that you enjoyed yourselves and am really pleased to already have heard from you about booking again next year. There can be no better recommendation to future guests than to know that others have chosen to return
Beautiful haven in peaceful setting
We stayed here in 2005 soon after the restoration and our second visit this summer did not disappoint. It is a tranquil haven in a beautiful and private setting, with very thoughtful attention to detail inside and out. The pool area is a sun-trap all day while the stone house stays cool all night, and the veranda provides a shady place to relax. We loved the diversity of wildlife and fresh figs on the driveway, and the village shops, cafes and restaurants are a short walk - fantastic views from here. The description is totally accurate and we were welcomed on arrival by Thomas who showed us where everything was. Many excellent, good value restaurants in nearby villages and towns too. Perfect !!
It was lovely to have you staying again after such a long time and I am glad that the house and area still lived up to your expectations.
Still a fantastic property 2nd time around
This is our 2nd stay at Casa Naomi and we weren't disappointed, the condition and facilities are second to none all are of excellent quality.we were a party of grand parents, parents and kids all had a fantastic time enjoying the local area beach etc this area never ceases to amaze us of its tranquility and natural beauty we will return
Once again thanks for the use of your beautiful house Fiona
Thank you for your comments. I am always pleased to have guests returning and hope that we will see you again in the future.
Beautiful well appointed Farmhouse on the outskirts of Montefiore Del Aso.
As a party of 7 including one child the property was plenty big enough. Being here at Easter it was too cold to use the pool, but the log burner in the main room was perfect for those cooler evenings.
Everything was as described by the owner, and their representatives on site were excellent ambassadors for them.
If your idea of a holiday is to get away from the madding crowd, then this is for you.
Perfect family vacation
I keep telling my friends that "Marche is like Tuscany 50 years ago". And thats all in i a positive sense! The house is situated outside the small, sleepy town/village of Montefiore dell'Aso whit a few restaurants/cafés, a bakery, two grocery stores. The views from the village are just stunning: to the west - the adriatic sea, at your feet the beautiful undulating countryside of Marche and to the south/west snow capped mountains.
We were 4 adults and 4 children and the size of the house and its facilities were perfect for us. The pool area was nicely kept and used everyday by the kids, the outdoor sitting area perfect for breakfast and dinner.
The ocean is 20 minutes drive away. Pre season when we were there so almost empty beaches.
We have only good things to say about this house and the area around it. Go there!
Special interest holidays:
Most years I organise an olive harvest and take the olives to the local mill to be pressed for olive oil. As yet I have only done this with family and friends, but would be able to put something together for anyone else who is interested. This would definitely be a working holiday as getting the olives in would be a priority, come sun or rain, therefore it would not be appropriate for young children. You would get the experience of fully participating in an olive harvest and seeing the olives being pressed at the mill. You would also be able to go home with some oil that you were part of producing. You would pay the cost of your flights and either your own hire car or share in the cost with me. Food would be a shared kitty. There may also be an additional charge of £100 per person to cover other costs. The oldest helper I have had was a week off her 80th birthday, the youngest was my 13yr old son who enjoyed sawing through branches! Email me to discuss further.
The coast can be seen from the villa and is only a 15 min drive away. All along the coast the sea bed shelves very gently with protection from the open sea provided by rock barriers making them ideal for children. There are various beaches running along the coast both north and south from Pedaso. Grottamare and San Benedetto are both to the south and worth visiting with palm lined beach fronts and lots of places to eat.
Car hire is essential. Ryanair fly from Stansted to Ancona which is one hour to the North along the coast toll road and Pescara which is just over the hour to the South. Ryanair also fly to Rome from various UK airports. Rome is an easy and very scenic 3 hours drive. Ryanair sometimes fly from various UK airports into Rimini which is a 2 hour drive to the north. Bologna is about 3 hours away. Monarch Air to Venice is also worth considering.
The local village of Montefiore is a 20 mins walk or a quick drive. The Sibillini National Park is about an hour by car and offers beautiful scenery. To the north the Frasassi Caves are about 1 1/2 hours, but well worth a day's excursion. The cave system includes the largest cave in Europe and is truly stunning. Have a look at their website! There are many old and picturesque towns and villages in the area that are worth visting such as Fermo and Ascoli Piceno.
Montefiore has all the amenities that you are likely to need, bank with ATM, baker, butcher, post office, supermarkets, cafes, pizza and small restaurants. During the summer festas abound in all the towns and villages including Montefiore - keep an eye on the posters for information. Only 15 mins away there is a go-karting track for all ages and it also provides a play area for younger children. About 45 minutes by car there is an aqua park with various waterslides which is always popular with the children. There are various activites available in the area including horseriding, visits to local cantinas where you can learn about the local grapes and the winemaking process and taste some of the wines, hang gliding, hiking etc. We can help you arrange these activities and provide someone to accompany on some of the visits. If you are interested in walking we can provide someone to show you the places to go in the Sibillini National Park or for those less energetic suggest routes to drive around the park taking in the most beautiful places to stop. Some of these visits can include a meal of local freshly prepared food. In July the town of Macerata holds an opera season in stunning surroundings which is well worth attending.
On arrival there is a welcome pack provided along with a free bag so that you can relax after your trip and have some refreshments before going out again to shop. The local shops are open on a Saturday evening and in the summer months the larger supermarkets open on a Sunday. We harvest our olives and take them to the Montefiore mill so there should be a supply of our own olive oil for you to use as well.
