Owners of Finca La Mariposa, Steve and Karen, Invite you to stay at our 3 bedroomed Villa, located in the Sleepy Little village of Valle De Abdalajis, sample the 'Real Spain' experience. Property is designed for a comfortable and relaxing visit, with 3 bedrooms (1 en-suite) a cot is available on request, separate fully equipped Kitchen Lounge-diner, large family bathroom, Outside toilet. Located in rural surroundings and set in private landscaped grounds with a large pool (10 x 4m), and large heated Jacuzzi. We are ideally situated for touring Inland Andalucia. Abdalajis (1 km away) with traditional bars/restaurants, is the Parapente capital of Spain. 15 mins drive away is the stunning El Chorro natural park renowned for rock climbing and adjoining picturesque Lakes of Ardales, and the Caminito Del Rey, the Kings walk (which is a truly amazing experience of walking around and through the mountains). Equidistant is El Torcal with it's magnificent Karstic Rock formations. Historical Antequera, only 30 mins drive away, offers a stunning golf course, it is also a shoppers paradise, with it's ancient narrow streets and it's plethora of quaint shops and architecture. Hola, we are Steve and Karen proud owners of Finca La Mariposa, which was originally designed and built by Steve and his late wife Tania and enjoyed living here for more than 10 years. Now UK based we have kept the property for our own use as it is too wonderful and unique to part with. We wish to share our property with others of a like mind.

Why Steve Wright chose Valle de Abdalajís

Stand on one of the patios here at Finca La Mariposa and it will become obvious why we purchased this plot of land. The views are, lets just say pretty impressive. Back in 2004 during our extensive travels of Inland Andalucia, we just happened to drive through this little Spanish village quite a few times on our property search. We happened upon this half an acre plot with planning permission to build a home, quite a rarity. We designed the villa ourselves and 1 year(ish) later we moved in. We absolutely love this area with its quaint little white villages and its impressive richness of places to visit, El Torcal and El Chorro both only a stones throw away. Abdalajis is the Parapente capital of Spain, sit here and watch them throw themselves off the Mountain.

What makes this villa unique

Finca La Mariposa is conveniently located, within 40 minutes of the Airport at Malaga, away from all the hustle and bustle of the packed coast, yet within easy reach of places to visit like Seville, Granada, Antequera, Cordoba, and of course a trip to the coast. Our villa is well equipped, with its Air conditioning in all rooms, full size English beds and luxury bedding, fully equipped kitchen for those keen to cook, and of course your own private patio and BBQ area, nip outside and catch a quick dip in the pool or a relax in the large heated jacuzzi. Walk along the tracks connected to the property or laze on one of the terraces with a tipple from the poolside bar the choices are endless, either way, we hope you will appreciate our tranquil location, and hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do every time we return.

Notes on accommodation: Finca La Mariposa is a newly built 3 bedroomed Villa and benefits from amongst other things, a home from home feel, with comfortable seating, UK TV, double glazed windows with pull down shutters, ample lighting with ceiling fan and air-conditioning. Selection of books, games and CDs. Internet access Via Wi Fi. Outside various areas for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade of the many pergolas. Outside: Set in an elevated position giving outstanding views from a selection of sun terraces, with sun loungers. There is a large pool (10m x 4m) with entrance via half moon steps, and suitable for diving. Shaded areas are also plentiful. Other amenities include Poolside Bar with shaded seating area, Large 5 seater Jacuzzi located in its own enclosed area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, towels and poolside towels are provided and are changed weekly. Cleaning is carried out prior to arrival, and on a weekly basis. Other: Outside private covered sun terraces, BBQ, table and chairs, with beautiful mountain views. 10 X 4 mtrs pool with easy access steps,Pool side bar area with further covered seating area, Large Jacuzzi for relaxing late night stargazing.

A little piece of Paradise

We knew from previous reviews that we had found a gem. But in reality we had actually found a little piece of paradise called Finca La Mariposa, and we never wanted to leave.

The location of the villa is perfect with wonderful views from the pool, Jacuzzi, dining and roof terraces. The pool is large with plenty of room for 4 adult sized inflatables and the hot tub was a fabulous place to enjoy a cocktail (or two) in the evening. The spotless outside loo was very handy when poolside. We ate breakfast under the dappled shade by the pool bar and lunch (usually about 4pm!) and dinner under the shade of the dining terrace.

The interior is large, spacious and airy thanks to air con in every room and roller shutters on the windows. The kitchen is large and well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, plus eye level oven, ceramic hob, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedrooms are a good size and the two bathrooms each have a large walk in shower plus there is a bath in the family bathroom. The lounge has a large screen TV, which was great for watching some of the World Cup matches - particularly from the reclining leather sofa (the recliner was so comfy that all who sat there fell asleep!).

The villa is close to the village of Valle de Abdalajis, where there are several shops for buying fresh produce. However, we stopped at the Mercadona at Alora (mid-way between airport and villa) en route to stock up on groceries etc so that we had no need to leave the villa. The road/track leading to the villa is steepish in places but easy (and fun) to negotiate by staying in first gear. The driving instructions from airport to villa, supplied by Steve, were easy to follow, however, searching for Calle la Vinuela, Valle de Abdalajis on phone sat nav also works.

All contact with Steve and Karen before, during and since our stay was easy with prompt responses and they provided helpful tips and recommendations. Thank you both. There is also a folder at the villa with useful info.

If you are looking for somewhere to relax, unwind, completely lose track of time and recharge your batteries look no further!

We hope to return very, very soon.

Perfect relaxing holiday

A lovely villa with a fantastic view of mountains and rolling hills. We spent most of our holiday at the villa as it was so relaxing and we didn't feel the need to venture out very often. Everything inside and outside is very well laid out and was very clean. The pool was the best we have had on holiday and a local couple came in every few days to clean and check both the pool and the Jacuzzi. This is a fantastic place to stay and hope to return soon.

A Little Piece of Heaven

My partner and i stayed here for 9 days and we were absolutely overwhelmed by the beauty and tranquility. The views have to be seen, waking up each morning to just the sound of birdsong was just lovely. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and all the facilities the villa had to offer..making our stay so easy and comfortable. Everything was on hand. We booked direct through the owners, Steve and Karen, who were such lovely people to talk to. They helped us with any queries that we had and gave us a great list of places to go.....The Kings Walk.. El Torcal..Antiquera...Alora...all beautiful and stunning places to visit. Booking direct through Steve and Karen was the best thing we did...allowing us to get it "straight from the horses mouth" so to speak made us more relaxed about our stay. John and i would, and have recommended the villa, it is a real "must stay" place. We are definately going back fact September this year again. We can't thank Steve and Karen enough for making our holiday so perfect.

Not easy to describe how wonderful...

We stayed at the Mariposa villa with friends and we liked it a lot! The fantastic views from the terrace, the jacuzzi, the pool, the well equipped kitchen, the quiet location, the possibility to do some walking...

One of our friends was not feeling well and had some fever. So she was obliged to rest and it is so true what she said, "this was the best place to rest and recover!"

We promised each other to come back there and we all hope this would be possible.

The contact with the owners was very good and we always got an answer within a very short time.

After our stay there we moved to the region of Marbella, but in fact every one of us wanted to stay at Mariposa.

Great, well equipped villa, stunning views.

This is a great, truly spacious villa equipped and furnished to a very high standard. There was every kitchen tool imaginable and the HD UK TV allowed us to follow the UEFA Euro 2016 finals! Bedrooms very comfortable and an outdoor eating area with breath taking views of the valley. The pool was fantastic to cool off after a day sightseeing and there was plenty of room in the driveway to turn our car around (unlike some Andalusian villas we've stayed in). There's a steep road up to the villa but don't let this put you off as many villas in this area are like this. Steve was very helpful and responded very quickly to any issues. I have to say the WiFi internet was the best we've every had in Spain; fast speed and the connection is very stable and didn't drop once during our stay - essential for our teenagers! I would highly recommend this villa for families who want a peaceful, comfortable stay in a rural surrounding with exquisite views of the countryside.

Car: necessary


We are located about 45kms from a selection of beaches either side of Malaga. As an alternative try the nearby lakes of Ardales, located in pine forests where you can swim in the natural water deposits, collected from the nearby mountain ranges.


Malaga airport is about 45 mins drive away. Granada airport 60 mins away, but very quiet. car hire is required, we recommend


1km from centre of Valle De Abdalajis. Antequera is a ½hr drive away through beautiful countryside. Seville 1½ hr drive. Granada 1 hr drive, Malaga ¾hr drive. Other places of interest: El Chorro, El Torcal and the Ardales Lakes the Lakes of Vinuela and Fuerta De Piedra are all within a short drive.

Further Details:

A selection of bars, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, post office, banks and a chemist are all located within the village. Finca La Mariposa is set just 1km from the village centre, where you can walk up above the house and enjoy the views and total tranquility on offer. This area is awash with colour and is a photographer/painters paradise. 'Twitchers' will relish in the abundance of birdlife, from Bee-Eaters to Griffon Vultures with the occasional passing Parakeet.
