This T1 apartment has one bedroom and one spare room "occassional bedroom" and is located on the Pont de Piedade at Praia Dona Ana, the best beach on the Algarve. It is also close to many more great beaches. ‘Casa Margharita’ is on the ground floor of a small block of 10 with private walled and hedged gardens, a shared swimming pool with children's pool, and car parking immediately adjacent. The apartment is also close to four top golf courses: Palmares, Penina, Boa Vista and Parque da Floresta. It is a very peaceful location, yet within walking distance to Lagos town centre. There are three mini-markets, a bank with a cash machine and many bars and restaurants including a Chinese takeaway and pizzaria, all within five minutes walk. Praia Dona Ana is two minutes walk, Lagos town centre is 10 minutes walk or three minutes drive.

About Les Wightman

Hi, we are the owners of Casa Margharita: Paul & Zoe French, and Les & Mary (Zoe's parents). Paul is a company director, Zoe is a graphic designer and mum of two, Les has recently retired from a busy international construction career and Mary is supermum/granny/cook. We have lived and worked all over the world, but we are now based in England and love the Algarve as it's so easy to get to, is perfect for families, has such friendly people, great weather and some of the world's best beaches!

Why Les Wightman chose Lagos

We bought Casa Margharita in 2003 and have had many happy holidays here. We had a good feeling as soon as we walked in to this apartment, and it seems that many of our clients feel the same as we get a lot of repeat bookings - we have to plan our own holidays over a year in advance or we wouldn't be able to go!

Paul and Zoe now have two children and the apartment has proved perfect for family holidays too.

We love Lagos because it has a beautiful town and harbour, many amazing beaches - even one in town, and over 400 (apparently!) restaurants to choose from. Its easy to get to from Faro airport, just under an hour. There are so many things to do, whether you are with children or not, or you can just totally relax.

The people are very friendly, and the town is very well-kept.

What makes this apartment unique

Casa Margharita is very close to three beaches, including Praia Donna Ana, one of Europe's top ten, a stunning beach with golden cliffs and warm, calm waters just a few minutes walk away. Praia Camilo is similar and even closer, and has a great fish restaurant; and Porto da Mos is close by, a huge white sandy beach with two lovely beachfront restaurants.

You can walk into town easily, through the castle walls. There are plenty of shops and facilities nearby, although the apartment itself enjoys wonderful peace and quiet being away from any main roads.

  • Description of sleeping capacity: The apartment is in local parlance a "T1" which means one bedroom, The main bedroom sleeps 2 in twin beds, facility for small children can be added as requested. The other room was designed as occasional sleeping accommodation when in use as a family home and is a perfect second for holidaying guests. The apartment can happily accommodate four people. "Z" Beds can be provided in addition to the above for up to two children.

Notes on accommodation: The air conditioning unit also provides heating when needed. Infant cots and high chairs can be provided for a small charge. Very suitable for children. Internet access is available. Outside: A spacious private double patio is ideal for daytime and evening dining and relaxing. The lovely well-tended and secluded garden, with lawns and swimming pool and small children's pool, make this a perfect holiday location. (The pool is shared with the other apartments) Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, property cleaned once a week unless otherwise required. Our managing agent lives close to Lagos is available at all times when needed. Other: The large double patio has table, four chairs, loungers and large & small sunshades. Hire of children's cot or "Z beds" are available by arrangement.

Great appartment near lovely beaches.

Spent four weeks here in July/August. Plenty of space for the two of us in a nice quiet private garden setting. We had (according to some locals) an unusually cool first three weeks - quite breezy from the North. This suited us perfectly with temperatures in the mid to high twenties. Hardly had to use the A/C until the last few days when a heatwave hit this part of Spain and Portugal.

We used the local bus service quite a lot to get to and from the town. The nearest bus stop is just five minutes walk from the flat and runs every hour from Porto do Mos to the East end of Meia Praia.This bus is vey convenient for the Pingo Doce supermarket at the head of the harbour. We also walked into town a lot. This took us about twenty minutes to the nearest part and up to fifty to the furtherest part.

Local restaurants are very good and only about ten minutes away. Great choice of eateries in town as well.

Not bothering to hire a car, we generally walked to Intermarche Hyper (twenty mins) and took a taxi back with our groceries - customer service will phone for you.

Apartment was very clean and tidy with cleaners coming in every week to change bedding etc. Washing machine very handy for extra self washes with great drying outside on patio rack.

We found this accommodation to be excellent value for our requirements as first time visitors to the Algarve and would certainly recommend it.

Excellent apartment in great location

Spacious apartment, very clean with everything that you would need provided. Extra bed was provided for our third daughter which fitted very discreetly into corner of living room. Our three daughters loved access to pool which was cleaned regularly during our stay. Within walking distance to excellent beaches though we did drive to Praia de Mos and took the deck chairs/ umbrella etc with us. Lagos is lovely town with very relaxed feel but lots to do and busy at night time. Drove to Sagres and Silves on day trips also. Would highly recommend overall.

Great location for the beaches

Had a lovely week in Lagos apartment was well equipped and met our needs. Fantastic location only a short walk to numerous beautiful beaches and we enjoyed the walk to the town centre on an evening. Would definitely recommend.

Scottish couple

When we first arrived at the apartment we felt it was a bit out of the way from Lagos centre.

However, after a couple of days we got used to the location and found the easiest way to Lagos. We then walked every time to Lagos but always taxi'd back at night. The reason was that the derelict building were a bit creepy after dark.

The apartment was very nice and spacious for just the 2 of us. We enjoyed the location and the grounds of the apartment block were lovely. We would definitely return.

Owner's Response: The uncompleted hotel structure was abandoned in the 1970's when the Lisbon owners went bust! The site was tidied up a little some 3 years ago but we doubt it will ever be finished now. It doesn't worry us at night but we understand that some might. So glad you found the route into town and love the apartment as we do. Les & Mary

Peace, quiet and loads of sun

As my husband has some difficuties walking this apartment suited us very well as its on the ground floor and only a few steps from the pool. Its clean and well maintained with plenty of what you need in a holiday home. I would sugest unless you are very able a car is essential for getting to the Supermarkets, Lagos Town and the Meia Praia beach area. And of course, to visit all the surrounding countryside and not just the beaches. We have already booked to go back mid-September when it will be slightly cooler. Many thanks to Les and Mary who are ever ready to help.

Amazing place!!!

Fabulous property in good location.

This is our 6th visit to this apartment and we love it!!

Pool area safe for the children, close to so many lovely beaches and restaurants, a real feel of Portugal here!!!

We will return.

Camilo beach 5 mins walk or 2 mins drive, steps down cliff, beautiful quiet beach with bistro/restaurant recommended for its fish. Praia Dona Ana: seven minutes walk or 2 mins drive, some steps down cliff. Cafes and bars. Algarve's best and most famous beach. Porto de Mos: 10 mins walk or 3 mins drive, 2 cafe-restaurants, huge white sandy beach, great for children. Meia Praia 40 mins walk or 10 mins drive. Massive white sandy beach, many beach bars and cafes.


Nearest airport is Faro, 45 minutes drive on new motorway. Car hire is recommended but not essential.


Praia Dona Ana is 3 mins walk, Lagos town centre is 10 mins walk or three mins drive. Portimao is 20 mins drive, Algarve Shopping Centre is 25 mins drive. Silves is 30 mins drive and Mon Chique about 40 mins drive.

There are 3 mini-markets, a bank with a cash machine and many bars and restaurants including a lovely Chinese restaurant that does takeaways and pizza, within five minutes walk. There are three big supermarkets in and around Lagos, all five minutes drive. Superb shopping and dining in Lagos and Lagos Marina. Lagos has a fascinating history, and the buildings and castle walls reflect this. There are museums and galleries, a zoo, and boat trips including dolphin watching, surfing, horse-riding and fishing. There are 2 water parks in the area, ZooMarine and Slide & Splash.
