Overview

About the property

Country Cottage in Treneglos, Nr. Boscastle, Cornwall - The Ideal Retreat In The Beautiful Cornish Countryside

Situated in the unspoilt Parish of Treneglos is Higher Scarsick a working Dairy and Sheep farm which has been farmed by the French Family since the early 1920's. Treneglos is mid way between the towns of Launceston, Bude and Camelford and approx 8.5 miles to Boscastle and Crackington Haven is a delightful place to spend your holiday surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside yet only a short drive to the wonderful sandy beaches on the North Cornwall Coast and very convenient for the variety of tourist attractions and leisure pursuits Cornwall has to offer. The cottage has been renovated over recent years and has retained many original features, including oak beams, stone inglenooks and a bread oven. Each year we take steps to inprove the cottage so that it is cosy and inviting for all seasons. We have refurbished the bathroom and one of the double bedrooms now en suite. The cottage now has 2 showers and 2 toilets as well as a bath. The other double bedroom has a super king size bed (6Ft) Photos will follow when I finish redecorating the bedroom. . Step outside to a large garden where you can hear the birds singing and enjoy the stunning views and if you care to take a short walk down the lane there is a small stream which is particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn.

Please ask for your holiday requirements I do try to accommodate where possible

The cottage is located avoiding the continuing road works on the A30 between Launceston and Bodmin, we are constantly hearing of horrendous traffic delays which is not a good start or end to any holiday.

About Heather French

I am a Farmers Daughter and then married into a farming family and I absolutely love living here at Higher Scarsick. Life is busy but the view from my office is constantly changing with the seasons and I can see Dartmoor on the Horizon.

. April Can't wait for Spring and the countryside springing to life again our flock of Poll Dorset Sheep are lambing so it is all go with plenty of lambs to look after The cows are not calving quite so fast but there are still plenty of calves to feed and look after.

It is this time of year that I decide what improvements I make to the holiday cottage and today I have purchased a Super King Size bed (6ft wide) and have also purchased things to redecorate the bedroom before taking delivery in about 6 weeks time hopefully ready for March booking but definitely Easter. I am looking forward to seeing the room change Photos will be posted as soon as it is finished.

Why Heather French chose Treneglos

People that have stayed with us recently have told us we are ideally located to explore Cornwall during their stay and are able to avoid the traffic delays on the morning of departure. We are only about 1 hour to Exeter and about 2 hours to Bristol.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this rural farm location. It was so rural but not really far from all the parts of Cornwall we love. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming!

A very enjoyable stay in a comfortable farmhouse with all usual amenities.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week's stay at Treneglos, benefitting as we did from excellent weather. The venue was ideal for visiting north and mid Cornwall and it was always a pleasant prospect to arrive back at the farmhouse after our day's activities. The owners, Heather and Les, who live in the adjacent farmhouse, were friendly and welcoming, and available for a chat in the garden most evenings. The only criticism we had - and the reason we have given only 4 stars - was that an extremely noisy wild peacock overnight meant that we could not use the front bedroom; indeed we were occasionally disturbed in the two rear bedrooms by the extremely loud mating call of the peacock. He was usually on a branch of a tree almost next to the house and having never previously heard the mating call of a peacock, we were amazed just how loud it was.....this was no normal farm animal noise! This apart, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this beautiful part of our favourite county.

Lovely cottage on a working farm

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here at Easter with our 3 children aged 9 , 11 and 14 and loved it. The cottage is set on a working farm with sheep and cows and were lucky to have the opportunity to see newborn lambs. Heather and Les are very friendly and welcoming and despite being busy with the running of the farm always had time for our questions and to make sure we had everything we needed.

There are 3 large bedroom , the family bathroom is large and modern and the ensuite is a lovely extra with 3 children. The kitchen has everything you could need and the lounge has the most comfortable sofa which was very welcome after long beach days. There are lots of games for the children in the lounge which ket them off their iPads , Heather and Les have thought of everything there was nothing we were missing.

We would recommend staying here it was near enough to tourist sites yet set away in the peaceful countryside.

Very remote ... perfect❤️

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has everything you need. The kitchen is well equipped (although it took us a while to work out the oven and microwave).

The lounge has the comfiest sofa in the world...kind of grateful for terrible weather so we had an excuse to stay on it for longer.

Bedroom was comfortable (we only used one of the 3) and I loved the shower!!

Heating is night storage but there are portable heaters of some sort everywhere. For me the only downside was no logburner....but it didnt take away from the house at all. We loved it here. Now all we have to do is pack up and leave. Thank you Heather

A gem in the Cornish Countryside

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting family members close by so this was a perfect cottage for my sister, niece and I. It was a real haven at the end of a busy and emotional time. A big thank you to the host Heather.

Location

With the continuing road works on the A30 between Launceston and Bodmin we are constantly hearing of horrendous traffic delays. Our cottage is located to avoid these delays on the morning of departure and to easily tour Cornwall and parts of Devon during your stay. We are about 1 hour to Exeter and 2 hours to Bristol.

Coast/Beach:

The North Cornwall coast is pickled with beautiful sandy beaches and coves. The nearest being Crackington Haven which is a 15min drive. For surfing we recommend Polzeath which is a 45 min drive (Approx)

Travel:

A car is essential for holidaying at Higher Scarsick. However it is 8 miles from the A30 and 3 miles from the A395 making it very accessible for all parts of the country

There is an airport at Newquay and main line Railway Station at Bodmin.
