About Felicity Davie

I live in England and Kalkan and have 2 children and I run my own marketing consultancy for scientific, technical and medical books and journals. I holidayed in Kalkan and fell in love with it and then purchased the villa in 2006. I have made many friends in Kalkan and have really fallen in love with Turkey. I have visited Istanbul and Cappadoccia which was amazing but there is still so much of Turkey to explore.

I am also learning Turkish - not an easy language and I don't get much practise as so many people in Kalkan speak such good English!

Felicity Davie purchased this villa in 2006

Why Felicity Davie chose Kalkan

Kalkan was the first place in Turkey that I visited and stayed in the Meldi hotel - a great place and somewhere where I still visit a lot.

Kalkan is so pretty and set around a beautiful bay with over 100 delicious restaurants - it just seemed like paradise. Having since visited some of the other resorts in Turkey, I have not found anywhere that I like more than Kalkan (which is just as well really!).

It is neither too big nor too small and caters for everybody, young and old, families or couples and there is so much to see and do in the area, you never get bored. Also, I never tire of the amazing view when I wake in the morning and look over the azure bay with the beautiful mountains as a backdrop.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is one of the closest to town yet still in a quiet and peaceful location which is important to me to know that my children can come home safely and without the need for taxis or long dark walks up steep hills and unmade up roads in the evening.

The property is like home from home and I have endeavoured to think of everything to make your stay an experience to remember. As it is also my personal home, there are all the personal touches to make it a really family home.

I love the garden which has 2 huge pomegranate trees, orange and lemon and avocado which has just produced its first 'crop' of avocados since purchasing the villa! I have to say - it wasn't the tastiest - but I ate it anyway!

The internet is a very useful facility enabling me to work in Kalkan as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our 12th year in Kalkan but our first in this villa and we were not disappointed. We have previously stayed above the D400 but decided to move nearer to town this year. This villa was in an excellent position, close enough to town without being right in the centre. The standard of the villa was very impressive even down to the finishing touches. It was spotlessly clean and well kept. Easy to see how well looked after this villa is. The furnishings and some of the furniture is brand new. The bathrooms are fabulous with the walk-in showers. Yusuf and his team looked after us very well, available for help if we needed it but not around too much to disturb us. The fabulous roof terrace provided us with many a happy evening with the fridge up there for our chilled drinks and the amazing sea view. There are a couple of supermarkets very close so no long walks for supplies! The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. There is a very pleasant terrace to sunbathe on and a lovely pool to cool us off when the heat of the day became too much. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Felicity, while were there. A lovely lady for whom nothing is too much trouble. She provided us with very comprehensive and valuable information before our trip. Overall, I would give this villa five stars and have already booked it for next year. I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Amazing villa - looking forward to returning soon

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from 10 days at Kirmizi Lale. The Villa was exactly as described, with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable holiday, and all furnished and equipped to a very high standard, and so clean. We really enjoyed spending time relaxing by the pool and hammocks in the garden, and the top level terrace / bar was a really nice touch, with great views over the bay to enjoy an evening sundowner. The WiFi met the demands of our two teenagers.

Felicity made us feel very welcome, and Yusuf and his team were on hand for anything we might need. We didn't really use the well equipped kitchen as spent most evenings dining out in the excellent Kalkan restaurants (Mussakka, Olive Garden, Alternatif, Baharat to name a few - we did not have a bad meal).

The Villa is only a 10 minute walk down to the old town, so no Taxis required - a bit harder on the way back up but not too strenuous.

Plenty of beach clubs to enjoy nearby (we tried Palm, Indigo and Kalkan beach park), with free water taxis to get you there. As others have said, do try a day boat trip, we went on Yildiz 3 and spend a wonderful day swimming in coves and having a delicious meal with fruit and cakes served on the way back.

Thanks Felicity, looking forward to returning soon.

Fabulous, efficient, professional and responsive.

  • 5 of 5

Our flight from Istanbul was delayed by 90 minutes. We arrived at the Villa Kirmizi Lale after midnight. The manager, Yusuf, was on hand to help with luggage and give us an orientation.

The villa is on a par with a 4-star hotel. Very clean, comfortable and safe, with all required elements to ensure a comfortable and safe stay. The owner, Felicity, is justifiably very proud of her villa and it shows in the presentation.

The villa can comfortably sleep 10 guests and with a party of only three was incredibly spacious.

For those who like a real physical challenge, the villa sits on top of a punishing hill. You can accept the challenge and be rewarded by a refreshing dip in the pool or you can decline and take a cheap taxi ride. We accepted and felt fitter at the end of our trip.

Kalkan is well situated at the foot of the Taurus mountains. It is a virtual sun trap for the sun worshipers. Temperatures (late June/early July) varied between 31 and 43 degrees with bearable humidity.

Highly recommend the Saklikent Gorge jeep safari. Buy some water balloons at the first stop and carry water in any vessel you can find. The reason will become quickly apparent and was incredible fun!! The food was basic but the overall experience was great! Horse riding in Patara was cool but do take care to wear long trousers as horses take you past fields with what looks like thistle. It is very rewarding to take a jeep or taxi ride into the mountains and visit the nearby villages like Bezirgan. Very, very tranquil and a good way to de-stress.

Nightlife is very good for families. The restaurant owners are not too pushy and the service was fair to good. Recommend Gusto, Aubergine, Linekers' (for dog lovers), Seaport and Sunset (with a great view over the harbour and water).

A special mention for those who like a huge satisfying, healthy breakfast, there is a great little bakery with seating area on the main street down a few shops from the Anka supermarket.

Overall, we agreed that Kalkan is in our top-2 places to visit for guaranteed weather, food, service and amenities. Villa Kirmizi Lale rates as our number 1 villa accommodation, to date.

Another Wonderful Stay in Kalkan

  • 5 of 5

Our third stay in Felicity's villa and fourth time in Kalkan. The villa is large and very well equipped. The updated bathrooms and terrace area made the stay even better. The pool was a great way to cool off on hot late September afternoons. Location is close to supermarkets and we discovered some new great restaurants closer to the villa without needing to walk into town. The Yali Beach Club was also a new enjoyable and low cost experience. All round highly recommended

Great villa, great destination

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week at this lovely villa for just the two of us, there was so much space but is certainly big enough for much larger groups. It is well furnished and equipped to a high standard, and very clean. We did not use the kitchen much as Kalkan has some amazing restaurants. There is lots of outside space, a great pool and plenty of sun loungers and shades. Also a great seating area for those who wish to sit in the shade. There is a third floor, we used this area for a quiet drink before bed, it has comfortable seating and a fridge and great to admire the views. The villa is a good ten minutes walk down to the old town, but must admit we got a taxi back, for very little cost.

Felicity was very friendly and welcoming and Yusef easily reachable if any problems.

We would certainly stay at Kirmizi Lale again plus Kalkan holds a special place in our hearts.

Yet another awesome holiday in Kalkan

  • 5 of 5

I send this on my way back to London. I had away on business and dispensed my duties and this is the first chance I have had to write.

In short we had a terrific family stay and Felicity was great and helpful. The days went off without a hitch, immaculate rooms and well equiped kitchen, fantastic pool, great vicinity to supermarkets and restaurants.

Felicity's ownership of making sure we had a great day was a real credit, turning up to check unnecessary but very much appreciated!

My only constructive feedback would be:

- A local company Kisla Travel who manage villa on behalf Felicity. Not so good on service and focused on tips.

I would avoid their airport transfer service too due to dangerous driving. Small blip and did not impact the enjoyment of our holiday.

- This was our 6th visit to Kalkan. In all previous villas from different owners we were offerred a daily delivery of fresh bread and croissants. A small detail for a great start of the day.

- Welcome package. A late long flight with a child is not easy, we reached the villa around 2am rather starving, a complimentary package could have been better.

Please take these in the context that you offerred us a great deal and we had a great time.

Thank you very much for everything and look forward to staying at your villa again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely feedback Fred and I am glad you enjoyed staying in my lovely villa - I look forward to welcoming you back to Villa Kirmizi Lale. Thank you too for the feedback on the not so good points - rest assured that I immediately took up the points you mentioned with my team and the issues will be resolved. I am sorry that my welcome pack was not sufficient for you - I guess the bottle of wine at 2am was not appreciated by your child but hopefully was by you after such a long flight!

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Kalkan has several beautiful beaches. A very pleasant pebbly public beach with crystal-clear water is located to the east of Kalkan's harbour. Otherwise, hop on a "dolmus" (a Turkish minibus - cheap, frequent and very convenient) and head for one of the two beaches near Kalkan.

Gorgeous Kaputas Beach is a lovely sandy swimming cove nestled at the foot of a striking mountain gorge, about 10 minutes from Kalkan, or Patara Beach a beautiful 18 kilometre stretch of sand backed by dunes.

Travel:

Air travel is typically from Gatwick or Manchester to Dalaman or Antalya airports in Turkey.

Transfer time from Dalaman airport is typically 1 hour 45 mins or 3.5 hours from Antalya.

Transfers and / or car hire can be arranged if required - please contact us for details / prices. Whilst a car is useful, it is definitely not essential in Kalkan as all facilities are within walking distance of the villa.

Further Details:

Kalkan is a small peaceful Mediterranean resort and fishing town on the beautiful Turquoise Coast of Turkey, which has not been touched by mass tourism. More sophisticated than the usual resort town, Kalkan appeals to travellers looking for more than a "sun and sea" holiday.

Because of its great charm, Kalkan has a growing number of perennial visitors who say the town is the only holiday destination they would choose to visit repeatedly. There is simply no other town quite like Kalkan along Turkey's coast. Kalkan has five very popular beach clubs (reached by shuttle from the harbour or taxi) - the Mahal, Kalamar, Likya, Patara and Yacht Club beach clubs. These are wonderful platform beaches and gardens cut into the bottom of the mountainside. They offer everything from swimming and sunbathing to bar facilities.
