EXCELLENCE IN ITS PURE STATE - Beautiful Alamedas***** -

"If you have ever imagined a secret, a hidden and UNEXPLORED JEWEL, and you are looking for THE AUTHENTIC, you have come to the INTIMATE and beautiful right place"

Beautiful Alamedas***** is a GORGEOUS VILLA for 15 people in the heart of the "Riberas de Castronuño-Vega del Duero" Wildlife Sanctuary in the heart of Castile, where we CARE THE ENVIRONMENT, serve ORGANIC BREAKFAST, clean with ORGANIC CLEANING PRODUCTS, and offer ORGANIC SHOWER GELS, as the traveller can visit the ORGANIC FARM with fruit trees, vegetable garden and vineyards.

For the traveller is the best scenario to stay since Castronuño, the name of the village, is STRATEGICALLY LOCATED in the middle of VALLADOLID (56 kms), SALAMANCA (56 kms), ZAMORA (56 kms), TORO (18 kms), TORDESILLAS (20 kms), and MEDINA DEL CAMPO (28 kms), so the villa becomes into the IDEAL HEADQUARTERS to visit the most important CULTURAL AND ARTISTICAL PLACES that surround the area.

The stay makes the difference because of the BEAUTY OF THE HOUSE and the fact that is nearby the Wildlife Reserve to birdwatch, walk, cycle, fish and horse ride.

The villa is DECORATED with PROVENZAL furniture and is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN; white bedding and perfumed towels; comfortable matresses, and details everywhere that make an unforgettable stay; fountains, joyful colours, and a huge garden with a wonderful porch.

The house is provided with a GROUND FLOOR with FOUR ROOMS: THREE DOUBLE (TWIN) ROOMS and ONE TRIPLE ROOM. The four rooms are provided with ensuite bathrooms; kitchen; dining-room; living-room, and, straight, you will find the garden.

A PATIO goes up to a LOFT-SUITE (an old restored loft). It is provided with four beds, ensuite bathroom, kitchen, dining-room, and living-room.

A 500 square metres GARDEN with an enormous PORCH (fountains and wooden furniture.)

A WINE TASTING ROOM and a MASSAGE ROOM which are in the garden too.

A PARKING in front of the backyard door, at "Ronda" street. It has enough room to park cars and 13 bicycles.

Beautiful Alamedas***** is specialized in ORGANIC WINETOURISM, and it has its OWN WINE TASTING ROOM, OWN VINEYARDS AND CELLER, and wine tasting.

Beautiful Alamedas***** organizes GUIDED VISTIS to the vineyards and wineries located in the D.O. TORO, RUEDA and RIBERA DE DUERO, as well as its own ones.

We are located on the D.O. (appellation) TORO, which is one the most prestigious wine producing areas in the world.

ESTEBAN, Maria´s brother, OENOLOGIST and WINEGROWER, will drive you to discover ANCIENT AND TRADITIONAL WINERIES and vineyards all over the area.

The privileged location provides us with the possibility of taking you around the three appellations WITHOUT DRIVING LONG DISTANCES.

TEMPRANILLO OR TINTA DE TORO has been the primary grape grown in the region, and because it is thick-skinned and potent is an early-ripening grape, which means to be character-filled wines noted for their colour, strength, and jammy flavours.

The city of Toro sits high above the banks of the Duero river and it is well known for its medieval architecture and captivating riverside landscape.

We will drive you through this ancient area stopping by its wineries for a tasting that you will find different and special.

ESTEBAN has planted 1,000 vines of "Albillo Real" LOCAL VARIETY, creating an ORGANIC AND BIODYNAMIC VINEYARD with which he is making red and white wine. All OUR GUESTS ARE INVITED TO visit our vineyard, as well as to TAKE PART in the elaboration process like grape stomping, seeing the celler and TRYING OUR DELICIOUS WINE. We also make Wine Country Bike Tours.

The Wildlife Reserve in CASTRONUÑO has been declared as a PROTECTED NATURAL AREA in 1992. The dam has originated one of the most important WETLANDS in Castile and Leon community. Today, it is an authentic SANCTUARY for wild fauna. As the dam was built, an important REEDBED surface has been created through the years along the right margin of the Duero river with several and DISPERSED LAKES. Numerous waterbird species find here one of the last refuges on migrations; spend winter season and, the most important, carry out reproduction. The presence of several threatened nesting bird species, as it is the case of purple heron or "aguilucho lagunero" increases more the value of this spot.

The "SENDA DE LOS ALMENDROS" ("Almond Trees Path") ROUTE begins in the high part of Castronuño and the sinuous path discovers old black poplars with LIANAS, CLIMBERS AND CLIMATIS that border the river until the dam. From several wooden pointviews eagles, storks and ducks can be seen.

WILD PIGS AND FOXES can be also seen at the sunset running fast along the green pastures and going from the oak forest to the river reedbed.

The WILDLIFE SANCTUARY protects many Aromatic species. LAVENDER, THYME, ROSEMARY, or CAMOMILA grow all over the vast oak forest land. Spring brings colours, and among the oaks, lavender grow creating a beautiful violet landscape. Perfumes are flowing on the air bringing UNUSUAL FRAGANCES. These are the PLEASURES OF PARADISE ON EARTH, like in the Andalusian tradition.

The water park La Florida del Duero is 1,5 km far from Castronuño and it is in the heart of the Wildlife Reserve and in the top of a hill where the whole Wildlife Reserve is seen. It has two water slides for adults and kids.

Las Balsas is an organic farm that belongs also to the family that owns and runs Beautiful Alamedas and it is 1,5 km far from the villa in Castronuño.

Las Balsas is four hectareas organic farm full of apple, pear, fig, walnut, hazelnut, cherry, grape and apricot trees with an organic vegetable garden with lettuces, tomates, potatoes, eggplants, peppers, carrots and others watered with spring water.

This water is healthy and crystalline and it is the water that we drink everyday.

We invite you to come and see. We planted everything 35 years ago.

Esteban, Maria´s father, will explain to you all about what you might be interested in knowing, but the only fact of walking through this beautiful and colourful botanical garden will be so delightful for you.

Main specialties are Castilian Stew, bull´s tail with potatoes, gizzards, tripe, roast suckling lamb, sirloin, flan, custards, puddings, piquillo peppers, chorizo, croquets, canapés of octopus and paprika, salmon, blood pudding with pine kernels and wild garlic... prepared in Valladolid and Salamanca like nowhere else in Spain… nowhere else in the world!

We are well known by our mummy homemade delicious breakfasts with ORGANIC CHEESECAKE, CHOCOLAT CAKE, PUDDING, ORGANIC SEASONAL FRUITS from the farm such as organic apples, pears, cherries, plumbs, walnuts and hazelnuts; milk, coffee, tea, butter, marmelade, and jelly.

Salamanca is one the most beautiful cities in Spain. In 1.985 was declared WORLD HERITAGE CITY by the UNESCO. The same fact of walking by Salamanca streets is a film watching as visitors can see massive and impressive cathedrals, convents, museums, stoned streets, gardens, universities and markets.

Houses used to be made of bricks, adobe and wood. Toro keeps being the commercial center of the area. And you will find plenty of SMALL SHOPS with this MEDIEVAL ATMOSPHERE, a very FAMILIAR treatment and such a good quality products. Wine shops are all around the city of Toro offering wines from the surroundings D.O. Toro wineries. Also excellent lentils, chick-peas, beans, asparagus, other spices, and chocolat!! Toro is the perfect place to "tapear". The Spanish tradition to have some small snacks or portions (SPANISH OMELETTE, FRIED SQUIDS, OCTOPUSS, CROQUETTES and other "tapas" like FRIED CHORIZO.

You can "tapear" by the Valladolid Plaza Mayor, or have an amazing dinner at the WONDERFUL RESTAURANTS. You will find the well known "morcones", which are delicious canapés made of a delicious bread and GRILLED LOIN, MUSHROOMS and GREEN PEPPER, cooked with olive oil and a touch of garlic. It has a delicious flavour. Then, you can taste "BROKEN EGGS", and after, a countless of the best Castilian gastronomy: croquettes; "cayos"; FRESH ANCHOVIES; MUSSELS; Spanish omelette; or quail eggs.

All the area behind the "Plaza Mayor" has a special charm; the plazas of "Santa Ana" and "Coca". There, you will find a delicatessen shop called "Casa Brígida", and, walking down this street, a CHOCOLAT SHOP and tea lounge called "El Sueño de Neblí". Around the "Plaza Mayor" there are many TEA LOUNGES AND COFFEES full of TERRACES where MILSHAKES and other can be tasted, and it is also very nice to be there.

This ciy is 28 kms far from Castronuño and it was one the most important MEDIEVAL MARKETS. It keeps being a very important centre where many events take place like the ORGANIC SUMMER FESTIVAL where many local and other Spanish ORGANIC PRODUCERS gather to exhibit their products; Beautiful Alamedas***** organic farm also exhibit their organic vegetable products.

Zamora and Tordesillas have many cultural and artistic places like convents, churchs and cathedrals. Zamora celebrates on October the most important CATILIAN ORGANIC EXHIBITION "ECOCULTURA".

María José Celemín Díez purchased this villa in 1900

Why María José Celemín Díez chose Castronuño

This property was the house of my grand-mother, who from I have heritaged my Faith in life, so when I restored, I thought I wanted the traveller to be transported into a beautiful place from where they remembered the decoration, details, cleanliness, softy linen, the joyful and cheerful colours, fountains, and the magic of the garden. All my being has put to decorate this house. Her spirit is a blessing for my guests, as the spirit of "The God of Green Valleys" is in the river, in the reedbed, the oak mountains, the black poplars that border the river as a jungle with clematis. At sunset, everything is magic and wild porks and foxes come from the mountain to the reedbed to sleep.

For my guests, is delicious to go to the water park, just in the middle of the reserve, as to visit us to the organic farm and see and try the fresh fruits from trees, like prunes, cherries, apples, pears, and all type of vegetables, as hazelnuts and walnuts. My brother and I, we planted helped by my father when we were kids more than 500 trees and we have been able to make this place into a botanical garden worth seeing. A natural spring waters all the place. Last year, Esteban, my brother, planted 1000 vines of a local variety of grape called "Albillo Real", from which he is making a delicious wine that our guests enjoy to drink.

What makes this villa unique

Castronuño has a privileged and strategic position, because it is in the MIDDLE OF SPAIN and very WELL CONNECTED by the Castilian highways. Castronuño is in the middle of main cities as SALAMANCA, 60 kms, VALLADOLID, 60 kms, ZAMORA, 60 kms, MEDINA DEL CAMPO, 28 kms, TORDESILLAS, 20 kms, and TORO, 18 kms.

We are just in the middle of the D.O. Toro, where the most emblematic wineries are all over to visit, not just like a massive wien tourism, but like a personal and familiar one.

Castilian gastronomy is just delicious; You can "tapear" by the surroundings, or have an amazing dinner at the other restaurants.

"Santiago" main street is very nice and, on the opposite side of the "Plaza Mayor", "Platerías" area is so special. There, you will find a delicatessen shop called "Casa Brígida", and, walking down this street, a chocolate shop and tea lounge called "El Sueño de Neblí".

Around the "Plaza Mayor" there are many TEA LOUNGES AND COFFEES full of TERRACES where MILSHAKES and other can be tasted, and it is also very nice to be there.

Because of the OPEN AND INTERNATIONAL MIND OF MARIA, you will find in the middle of "THE REAL SPAIN" a luxuriant villa that could be in the middle of Manhattan.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Experience de real Spain

Beautiful Alamedas is a little gem tucked away in the quiet village of Castronuno. Maria Jose was a wonderful hostess who couldn't do enough to make sure we had a superb holiday. Her care and attention is everywhere in the house which was welcoming and very comfortable. The combination of a special home with Malvasia, a superb gourmet restaurant around the corner, wine tasting, ever changing rural landscapes and the culinary and cultural joys of Toro and Salamanca close by made it the perfect place to experience the real unspoiled Spain. Don't worry about being in the middle of nowhere, Maria will make you feel you are in the centre of the world, she is the best!

I loved this Villa. It`s spacious but at the same time cozy. All the spaces are taken care of to the maximum, every time you find a new detail. With all amenities. It´s a haven of peace and tranquility, even more with its fountains are lit. The cleanliness is meticulous with organic products, as well as the toiletries in the rooms.

Our hostess couldn´t be more friendly and just with everything she does makes you want to come back !! The wildfire reserve, close to the house, surprises you once you enter its gut as well as its beautiful views from the viewpoint. Definitely a great weekend, where without a doubt we'll be back !!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful times at Beautiful Alamedas

  • 5 of 5

Eight Australians wanted to see the real Spain and were drawn to Beautiful Alamedas in Castronuno. The house was beautifully presented in every way and Maria and her family made us feel very special. They gave us advice, told us stories about history, taught us to cook tortillas and educated us on local vineyards and wines. it gave us a wonderful glimpse into Spanish life and culture and we highly recommend this house to everyone. it was a warm and generous experience for us all. We will never forget the joy of staying at this beautiful house.

Absolutely fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to spend a few days! The house is spotless, inviting, comfortable, with plenty of space inside and out if you have kids to play and move around. The village is quiet and safe and you can walk everywhere. There is a tourist office/library where you can get free Wi-Fi and plenty of information on activities going on at and around the surrounding villages. A visit to Toro and Salamanca a little further away is a great way of spending the day and learning about the history of Spain while tasting some of the gastronomy of the area, and of course the wine. A bicycle ride around the nature reserve leading the magnificent river is a must. Do bring a picnic and create some unforgettable moments in a beautiful environment. The owner, Maria jose, and her family did more than anybody would expect to make us feel welcome and at home, they are a pleasure to be around. Maria went out of her way to show us around and provided plenty of ideas for excursions and trips. I would highly recommend everybody to experience this part of Spain.
